This later daylight is recharging my soul. So nice for spring to get here, probably one more "cold" (50s) snap and we're good until late November.
Why I'm glad I have TVR: the finale for True Detective and premier of Cosmos are on at the same time. I remember a time when I would have had to sacrifice one to watch the other.
Are you sure we aren't going to have another round of freezing rain? I am STILL picking up downed limbs and cutting trees from three weeks ago. Today I made another rack to hold all the firewood that was just from that storm. Monday I was in Houston and there was freezing rain. Today I am home wearing shorts working in the yard. Fuck. No wonder I am sick.
It's amazing how funny that movie still is. I don't know that it's the funniest movie ever, but damn, it's in the running. Gladiator was a great movie. Loved it, but not a life changing movie by any stretch. Any book that gets kids reading is a good thing, but I've always found Palahniuk exceptionally overrated. As always, I could be wrong, but I doubt he will be held in the same esteem in 20 years. 'Choke' was ok, but predictable.
I'm burned out from work, and homework and more other homework. This thread needs less book talk and more this NSFW Its spring, its sundress time, thank fucking God.
I think Mormon temple architecture answers the question "What if we hung Christmas lights on a Soviet Union parking garage?"
Apparently Angel noticed that in the photo I posted Brooklyn Decker had a bad hair dye job. For some reason, that thought didn't really occur to me when I posted that.
She went to my high school, I didn't know her though because I was a few years ahead. And now I feel ancient.
Back in the mid '80s there was a scary new form of music that involved angry black people. Thankfully, three white guys from Brooklyn came along and saved rich white kids.
You Gotta Fight For Your Right Well, now Shegirl's thread theme was 80's videos, not 80's songs. That Beastie Boys album cover is funny, with the reverse EAT ME tail number and all, but that's not the video for that song . . . besides, the best 80's way for angry black rapping to get introduced to whitey is to revive a hair rock band by mixing the two genres: Also, Duran Duran was on major rotation in 80's videos. Duran Duran and Madonna. I always liked this video, because I thought Madonna looked good all dolled up. And, by "looked good" I mean I was always hoping her boobs would fall out of the dress. Mostly, I would've liked to post Prince's 'When Doves Cry' but his video police attorneys must be pretty good, because I can't find it.
Re: You Gotta Fight For Your Right Well, la-di-frickin' da, Rush. You have to wonder if Steven Tyler ever gets down on his knees and thanks God for Run-DMC resurrecting Aerosmith.
I always held out hope that they would re-record this album without the cheesy fake instruments and use a real backing band (like they did on some of their later albums), in particular the drums (like many 80's albums) sound absolutely atrocious. A lot of great songs on this album, but the sound of it (which was all the rage at the time) has not held up well. Jesus, the power this album would have with real instruments behind it would be scary. I think it'd be a more fun 'Rage Against the Machine' album.
Re: You Gotta Fight For Your Right Although a good live show, Since the late 80's Aerosmith didn't make albums as much as they made soundtracks for music videos. They do get credit for having the most hilariously, horribly dressed fans in music. Beastie's funk instrumental album is the tits. No vocals, just amazing music.
Re: You Gotta Fight For Your Right I still hold the belief that Armageddon was just a very long music video for Aerosmith. They made some pretty good music in the 70s, then Steven Tyler started exploring the coked out pre-op tranny look and it all went to shit.
Re: You Gotta Fight For Your Right Ugh. Worst of all that gay-as-fuck song from it was their ONLY number one hit. That song in that movie- the worst movie ever made- is a perfect storm of dog shit. But Truman got his astronaut patch in the end.
How has no one posted this video yet? This is kinda how I feel when I'm going to my class where I'm the only guy out of 30 people. A group of women is a frightening thing. I've never listened to that whole song before, holy shit is it repetitive.
Tom Petty released Full Moon Fever the day after I was born in 1989. Not exactly 80s but still from the decade, and very awesome too.
Re: You Gotta Fight For Your Right They made fantastic music during the 70's. The trio of 'Get Your Wings,' 'Toys in the Attic,' and 'Rocks' are three of the most solid consecutive albums released by any band, and 'Rocks' is possibly in my Top Ten Greatest Hard Rock Albums of all time category. They were spectacular during the 70's. The 80's? Not so much. 'Permanent Vacation' is their best from that era, and 'Pump' has some great songs, but a fair amount of shit, too. After 'Pump'? Yeah, more like 'Flush.'
Re: You Gotta Fight For Your Right Wait a minute. You mean to say that out of all the songs Aerosmith's ever written & performed, that was their only #1 hit? I ask because there are lots of [better] Aerosmith songs I like, such as: or or or (one of my favorite songs of all time) or even some of their 80's stuff such as or even And people may wonder why I feel absolutely zero smugness when I look down at vast majority of peoples' music tastes. I'm better than them and as long as things like I don't wanna miss a thing being the only #1 Aerosmith's ever had keep happening I'll continue to be better than them.
