At this point, I think it would be helpful to distinguish the different types of sex workers. Brothel workers and "streetwalkers" likely do rack up partners at a higher rate, but high end call girls would have a partner count somewhere between those that have only ever engaged in long term monogamous relationships and those that sleep with whomever they damn well please whenever they damn well want to. Trying to apply a generalization to the partner count and risk status of sex workers is like trying to apply the same generalization to all sexually active people; some people are safer than others, some people engage with fewer partners than others.
I agree with you, but I thought we were talking in generalizations. My logic goes like this: The majority of people who engage in prostitution are not high end call girls. The majority of the population is not rapidly increasing their number of sexual partners. Mind you, I'm in favor of legalizing prostitution because I think that it would be easier to encourage safe sex practices and decrease instances of exploitation, but I suppose I'm not as well educated about the matter as I ought to be.
So is anyone going to just call a spade a spade now? I don't understand why a hooker is allowed to get on her soapbox (hope it was cleaned from last use) and not catch shit. If you dabble in the sex trade, I definitely look at you as less of a person. There is no amount of "safety" that makes it not taboo in my book. Selling your body/buying someones body is a horrid thing to do. Call me old fashioned all you want, but there is a place for morals in a society.
Oh definitely nothing to do with you. It's more what's being said in the other thread. Well, entirely. To your point, you're not wrong that there is certainly shame associated with being s John. But take away the legal system: when a man says he has visited prostitutes and a woman says she has at one point been a prostitute, the general reaction from society towards the two is not the same. I just don't quite see why there should be such a disparity. You can't buy a product or service without someone to provide it, and for some reason people assign some kind of agency to the buyers and not the sellers. But that's just my opinion.
I hate to be the one to break it to you, but if you have a job you are basically selling your mind and/or body. While my somewhat corrupted morals agree with you, it all boils down to the simple fact that we all have a price. What we're willing to do for X amount of dollars differs from person to person. I'm not going to judge anyone because their price is lower then mine. I don't know their circumstances or mindset. If Anne Frank had blown a Gestapo officer for a loaf of bread to feed her family would that lower her as a person?
So obligatory "Gawker is shit," but if anybody knows who this girl is, please let me know. Because I want to marry her. The Most Deranged Sorority Girl Email You Will Ever Read.
What, you'd be so eager to suck Gestapo cock that they'd never be in need of servicing from the womenfolk?
I particularly enjoy her use of the terms 'asshat' and being a 'goddamn boner'. Can we get some more randomly capitalized PROFANITIES up in here??
I really wish that I could think that this was trolling so that I could just drop it, but I know it isn't. You've gotta be kidding me with this bullshit. Who cares if you think it is taboo or whatever. Just because you believe in something different doesn't mean that you should look at them as less of a person--especially when someone makes a rational decision to do something like this, and lets be honest, makes a fuckton of money in the process. I don't blame anyone for doing it willingly and safely; it's not my body or my life.
And this is why I'm a misanthrope. I understand that as a society now we are beyond such things as separate water fountains, beatings for the Irish, internment camps and the like. We are definitely improving as a culture. There are simply some things that are unacceptable, and no amount of tolerance will fix.
How about you shut the fuck up and apologize for calling someone less than human for engaging in something you disagree with and in no way affects your life, you fucking miserable asstwat?
Woah Woah woah we're beyond beatings for the Irish now? THE TERRORISTS HAVE WON. Last week I was considering cutting down on my midweek casual drinking because fuck beer ain't 12 Euros a case anymore. Then work this week happened. And fuck work. Also in mental health rounds we discussed, to my surprise, an old buddy of mine. I was, as it turns out, a witness to some of the events recounted in his history. There are just some things you shouldn't learn about people you know in a casual context. I wonder what'll happen if I end up seeing him again. Also Mr. Frank didn't have the luxury of Internet posturing.
Pardon me, hooker coming through. What deity died and made you judge? I made a choice. You would make a different choice. That's great, I respect that, and I accept that plenty of others wouldn't make the same choice I did. I sure as shit don't denigrate them for doing so, nor do I characterize them by a single action committed years ago. Besides which, if you want to delve into the nitty gritty of it, nearly everyone pays for sex. Whether it be money, emotion, or health, directly or indirectly, you sacrifice something for sex. I'm sure it makes you feel better to get up on your high horse and lord over us lesser beings with your pristine morals (I'm sure you yourself are a man of unblemished character, absolutely without flaw or sin), so go right ahead. I'll even Lysol the soapbox for the next time you try to hoist yourself up there. I hope that glass house you're living in is bulletproof.
Oh, I'm quite aware of that. And it's thanks to assholes like you. So no, I won't. It's actually quite comfortable up here.
