Just goes to show you how fucked up this country comes to racism. People by-and-large like to pretend that we live in a "post-racial" society and that aside from bad words all the racism is gone. So a shitbag like Sterling can do some utterly reprehensible things like housing discrimination and no one gives a shit, but as soon as he says the wrong words out comes the self-righteousness, along with the torches and pitchforks. I'm glad this fucker's getting banned, but it leaves a bad taste in my mouth that this is what it took to get there.
People already generally hated the twat beyond belief, they have been jonsing for his nail in the coffin for a lifetime. This that nail. There was already a laundry list of reasons to hate that cheapskate open-sore, why not get rid him of him via disgrace?
http://www.slate.com/blogs/business_ins ... =obnetwork So apparently Fireball whisky is taking off big time. I was in Baltimore a few weekends ago and a guy at the hotel bar insisted I do a shot of it with him, which was fine by me, but I hadn't so much as seen the stuff since I was living in dorms and the good ol' country boys drank it to keep them warm in the winter.
Fireball Whiskey is a great thing, we sell it for 7 bucks a shot and sell the shit out of it. Keep a bottle in your freezer it is way better ice cold. Also poor a shot into some hard cider, it kicks it up a notch.
That's what we'd sneak into movies to get our buzz started. As teenagers. You're saying its becoming a scene beverage? They only used to sell it at the cash register of the Liquor Store.
In the NBA thread, wondering why there was no Donald Sterling discussion, then realized it all happened in the drunk thread where I never go because I don't drink and post. Good job guys, good forum.
Drinking is never a rule. I highly doubt this many people are smashed at work every day. It's a "whatever" thread.
Also surprised to see that people on this board don't know that "articulate" is a backhanded compliment when about a black person, this has been common knowledge for a while.
I think many of us do. (No sarcasm, by the way). That discussion has been ongoing in this thread too.
The problem is the masses didn't know what a racist shitbag Sterling was until this. It took a massively read online publication like TMZ to expose it (you can argue that it is sad it took TMZ to expose him, and I'd agree). I'm sure a lot of people in the NBA knew, and I'm sure people who followed the Clippers closely knew (of at least had a good idea), but the masses sure as fuck didn't know. Once the word hit the majority of America, the outrage flew. I loosely follow the NBA, and have for years, and I had no idea who owned the Clippers, let alone what his racist shitbag thoughts were. I'm guessing there are a LOT of people in that same boat, who didn't know but when they found out, wanted to see something done. What surprises me is that the reaction from people in the NBA who had to know what a shitbag Sterling was turned out to be surprised outrage rather than "oh, you're all finally aware that he is a piece of shit? Welcome to the party."
I've been a Spurs fan my whole life. They were not only the "rags to riches" story, they are, and have been (for an historical amount of time now) a "nice guys finish first" story. And during that point, I've also been vehemently against commissioner David $tern. What Sterling has done in the past, outside of basketball, has been simply despicable, and yet Stern turned a blind eye. Even buddied up with him at points. As much as I don't like the NFL, at least they are preventing Trump from getting a franchise based on his character and past professional mis-dealings (which the NBA must evaluate in order to approve you as a potential owner). Well David Stern did things his way. It was all about the almighty dollar. Sterling was like the Dennis Rodman of owners, except with more absurdity, less emotional care, and more societal impact Assuming Tony Parker's ankle sprain isn't too bad, I still believe the Spurs are they 2nd or 3rd favorites to win the title. They have a chance, and a good chance at that. But for once, even if my hometown team doesn't win it all (you know, Spurs' fan expectations and such), I'll actually be proud of the NBA. Because they didn't just make a professional statement. They made a social statement. And that is what I see as the most important. And why I'm proud not just to be a Spurs fan anymore, but also a fan of the NBA.
Maybe this wouldn't be the case if "black culture" didn't spend so much time wallowing in borderline illiteracy. Hell, compare country music to hip-hop. Even the tongue in cheek over the top country sounds make a better attempt at the English language than half the shit on the urban stations.
