I would have said no. It's an all-cash deal or nothing. Even banks won't accept THEIR OWN FUCKING CASHIER'S CHECKS as cash around my parts.

It also might be that he doesn't want a paper trail... anything other than cash is something that has to be processed by a bank.

Mom just arrived for a 2 week vacation during the wine-and-dine festival. Fun will be had.

First order of business was making up a batch of sangria in my new 7.4L (2 gallon) sangria jar:

    sangria.jpg

Then it was on to making some pickled eggs for the May long weekend fishing trip coming up. 30 garlic, 30 spicy (kind of like Jamaican jerked pickled eggs).

Can one of you smart people explain that to me why that is (Also, why there are limits to withdrawing your own funds, if you go there in person to withdraw them?)?

I can vouch for that (or maybe I can't!). In a person-to-person car deal, the state is basically depending on the two parties involved to accurately report the selling cost ...

(Stifles laughter) According to the paperwork, I paid $900 for my Trans Am. And I DID hand over at least $900 for it...

There aren't any limits. Federal law specifically allows you to withdrawal as much as you want. The limits are on withdrawals in a single transaction. Reason is to prevent money laundering/fraud. But you can just go in to the bank, close your account and get a check for the funds.

I feel like shit. I hate that I can't drink and recover like I could 10 years ago. Husband's all, "Wanna go to the gym with me?" Hail no. My brain is functioning just enough for online shopping.

Oh you poor naive Canadian. Maybe in that maryjane-smoking communist utopia up North they respect the fact that your money is your business, but down here money can be indicted, seized, and/or used as probable cause for all manner of up-to-no-goodness like drug running, terrorism, or voting Democrat.

As far as I know, the large transaction rules only require reporting the transaction, not a limit on size. A size limit would be imposed by the bank because a lot of branches don't actually have very much cash on hand. It is also possible that the clerk was lying about the limit because they didn't want to do the large transaction paperwork, in which case collecting a smaller amount from multiple branches is liable to get your accounts frozen by the feds.

This. There's two types of reports that banks are required to fill out and report for monetary transactions. Guaranteed backed funds items (a cashier's check for example) over $3k and ANY withdrawal of over $10k regardless of item (cash, cashier's check, wires, etc) each require a form that must be filled out. It's been a while since I've worked in an actual branch, but I also believe that the report for the over $10k withdrawal must also be signed by the person doing the withdrawal...?

Regardless, it is all done as a step to prevent money laundering. Funny thing is, it really only applies to personal accounts because otherwise, large corporate account holders would be busted nearly hourly for the shady shit they do.

Does your bank have a branch located where you're buying the car? Because if so I'd call that branch and explain the situation and ask if they can make arrangements to have the cash on hand for the day of the transaction. If they're agreeable to that then contact the seller and inform him that you've made arrangements to withdraw the cash from the local branch and you'll conduct the sale onsite. That way he can get cash for the car and you don't have to put yourself at risk by carrying $22,000 on you.

If the seller isn't amenable to that, then tell him to go fuck himself.

You left out "...or if the police station needs a new pool table".

Civil forfeiture in America has to be the sleaziest of all abused practices. The Florida bill sounds like a breath of fresh air.

Goddamn is anyone else watching this Thunder-Spurs game? Is the entire Thunder team playing through injuries or something? This is embarrassing for a so-called elite team.
