Viggo was hot until I saw him in booty shorts and a hypercolour off-the-shoulder sweatshirt on the set of A History of Violence. That image still haunts me.
I'm trilingual, but for me it just means I can be awkward and confusing in more than one language... hey dónde están as senhoras?? Shimmered you're right, you lose it if you don't use it. Me neither. I haven't read the books, just snippets of atrocious writing, but my girlfriend started reading the second book (didn't read the first) and quit because of that in particular. She felt some parts crossed the line and just felt abusive rather than sexy. Focus: You can call me an outdoorsman, but if there is anything in particular on top of that you could call me a "gun guy". I like building and shooting them... a lot. Most other gun guys like my friends and customers are great, but of course there's a loud and annoying minority that makes me want to rip my hair out at times. The worst seem to wallow in a culture of stupidity and ignorance and are proud of it, and of course tend to harbor lots of bigotry and racism too. I'll leave it at that. There's some gun-related messageboards I visit on occasion just to witness how bad it gets.
I've heard Bernie Williams speaks at least four languages. He's also done this: And this: And this: I'm thinking of letting Mr. Williams tie me down.
I was thinking about this and came to an interesting conclusion. In the historical novels (the sexual ones, not the genteel regency ones) the woman is generally very beautiful and most of the men who are not the male protagonist are clamoring to kidnap and rape her. In most of the modern day ones, they do actually make a point of describing the girl as plain jane every woman. In fact, a common trope is to introduce a bombshell bitch as a coworker/friend/ex of the male lead to make the female lead feel like she doesn't stand a chance. This happens in movies a lot as well. I'd be very surprised, actually, if FSoG doesn't have the bombshell bitch (I'm sure the tropes website has a name for her, but I'm too lazy to look it up). Jesus Christ I've read a lot of romance novels. meh. ETA: Betty Neels is a very prolific harlequin author who has the mousy invisible protagonist.
Vocal minorities kill fun for everybody. The outlandish behavior is just that much easier to point out and condemn and grab headlines. Since the news media is trending towards click bait headlines this will only be getting worse. This goes for all sides of the spectrum. The outrage media is the new norm. As a "gun guy" I see the average gun owner as the guy that enjoys the craft behind shooting and respects the engineering involved in creating firearms. These are the target shooters, hunters, and folks that consider guns the most prudent option to self defense. The only people you'll be seeing on the news or opinion pieces are the basement dwelling wackado sovereign citizen types that want to make a scene. Which admittedly there are some and they portray gun owners in a very bad light.
One who is fluent in several languages is a polyglot, a linguist is one who studies linguistics, how language is formed, works, etc. My daughter is studying linguistics in college. She will be a linguist despite only knowing two languages. Lots of people are polyglots, especially those who live in border areas. And, many European and Asian countries make English a mandatory subject. My wife, e.g., is fluent in Romanian (country of birth), German (part of her family culture), French (because tres' chic), Italian (more family), English (required subject), a good bit of Hungarian (another part of the family and nearby border country), and even a bit of Russian. She also plays the piano and cello, as well as making a stupid amount of money for administering a small law firm, and she was on the Romanian Olympic rowing team until the commies caught wind of the family's desire to emigrate. She volunteered as a translator for the Romanian rowing team for the '84 Olympics. Hey, she could be the model for Christina Pink in the forthcoming "51 Shades of Pink" . Helping with the research could be, um, interesting.
Sorry, I meant in the military sense. In that they're trained to speak another language after reaching adulthood, as well as everything else you described - the formation and cultural studies. Becoming a polyglot as an adult is quite difficult, especially for someone who grew up speaking only one language. But, I could be wrong.
Nonsense. Black women paid for their ticket just like you killjoys who think that movie magic has to be a one-way street.
You'd still need to be sexually adventurous, and I recall a certain someone who was not at all very helpful in the dildo market.
Without immersion I agree with you. I was close to academically fluent in Spanish after 4-5 years in middle school/HS and another year in college, can still read fluently for the most part, but never spoke it well. Spent a night in London a few years ago with a group of Spaniards and suddenly it became alot easier when it was flowing around me in rhythm. Multiply that by 50 if you are living in Spanish speaking area. Hell, even in the week I was in France and Italy, with my basis in Spanish, I could feel myself picking things up in each language and can see how adapting wouldn't be as hard. Ive mentioned my company's president, who is German, who speaks English, German, as well as all 3 major Romance languages, fluently. But living and working in Europe most of his life, he was forced to speak Spanish and French for work/social purposes and married an Italian woman which gave him the 3rd. Its like any dissimilar skill, if you read books about it and practice it every so often, it's tough, but if you spend alot of time with it, it becomes alot more doable.
I wasn't actually trying to be a dick. Your usage is an accepted, if secondary, usage in some (most?) dictionaries. My son learned Mandarin as an adult while living in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore. Very difficult, but a hot Taiwanese/Danish GF (now wife) certainly helped. They have since moved to Copenhagen and now he has to learn Danish. Really hard as it seems to be anti-phonetic. My granddaughters have been exposed to English, Danish and Mandarin since birth and easily switch from one to another depending on their audience. I feel like a dunce around all these kin folk as I am trapped in English fortified only by 37 words in Spanish, most curse words, of course. Yo soy pendejo.
Well I don't know about you fools, but I can't wait to get a lawn chair and some drinks to see who flocks to this movie. If it's good, will they rush to go home and masturbate OR try find the closest approximation to the guy? Questions, questions.
Regarding the rape stuff, there's a lot of erotica and porn that has forced / coerced sex in it. A lot of people have rape fantasies.
I forgot to mention this earlier. I dated a girl that had a healthy feminist streak through her and used "rape culture" more than I liked to hear. Guess what book she liked and admitted masturbating to? What the fuck? She even admitted once upon a time that she had rape fantasies and liked it pretty rough in bed. It's interesting the whole breaking of the safe word (first time I've heard about it was this thread) thing now makes me want to go back and ask her a million questions about that dissonance.
If you try to hold a feminist to the exact sanctity of her word, you will only seethe with anger and frustration at the amount of logical holes and verbal hurdles they will navigate to justify whatever opinion they hold and double standard they feel is OK at that time. I dated a girl once who identified strongly with being a feminist and she fought every fight and personally took on every cause no matter how unrelated to her they were. She was yelling at me in the car once about how any kind of profiling is wrong because of how racist it can be. Cue her no less than 10 minutes later grabbing her purse tighter and hiding behind me when we were walking down the street and a black person was walking the opposite way on the OTHER SIDE OF THE STREET. I never let her fucking forget it.
