    I watched this girl finish the course. I couldn't BELIEVE it. It looks like half the gaps she had to clear were as big as her.

    The biggest gap on the poles were 5', she is 5 feet tall. The two swinging red D loop things, are 5' apart when one is at its lowest point. She fucking killed it. It was amazing to watch.

    The TWA Flight 800 crash happened on July 17 also I think. (Pretty sure) that plane was also shot down.

    TWA Flt 800 did crash on July 17th, but please, please take off the tinfoil hat. I'm already seeing conspiracy theories suggesting this jet is actually the remains of Flt 370.

    What scares me...will an event such as this turn into the modern equivalent to the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand?

    With everybody's cell phone capable of high quality video recording it's safe to say it's fucking on as far as seeing anything and everything the horrors of a tragedy like this produce. Already a bunch of footage of the charred and mangled bodies spreading online.


    Here I thought that 5'0 tall girl killing the American Ninja course was going to be the top social media event of the day.

    "Rebels" (Russians) operating a BUK SA-17 would have that capability; a strategic-level weapon, not a MANPAD operated by Boris, the friendly neighborhood separatist. Open-source intel puts one of those systems conveniently below the flight path of that aircraft.

    All this doom and gloom about it being the start of WWIII is hilarious. This is a more likely outcome:

    Technically, the SA-17 is a tactical system. It's mounted on a tracked vehicle designed to move with motorized ground forces. It's actually a fairly common system and while more complex to employ than a MANPAD it is not an overly complex system to operate. Both Russian and Ukrainian forces use the system so it's not inconceivable for pro separatists to acquire the system. Remember, Boris is typically more educated and trained than his average counterpart in Afghanistan. The Syrians surprised the hell out of the Israelis in 1973 with the SA-17's predecessor the SA-6.

    In this instance its use will have strategic implications. I'm not saying this event will start WWIII, but this does have a lot of potential to turn what is essentially a border skirmish into a greater regional conflict. Big wars often start with a random flashpoint over a long simmering issue.
