my dad had similar experiences. when the coal mine he worked at shut down he used his union benefits to go back to school and ended up with a bsn and working for the state health department. going from an underground dirty dangerous environment where all his coworkers were men to an office where it was about 70/30 women to men was a major adjustment for him. even to this day, i sometimes think he would've preferred to stay in the mine than deal with the office politics.

keene, nh (my newly selected city in the middle of nowhere, whiteness) was just featured in "last week tonight" for requesting an mrap to defend their pumpkin festival.

    what's an mrap?

not everything can be fois gras and truffles. into everyone's life a little malt liquor must be spewed. my achilles heal is caffeine. once you get a little past my lips it's all over. everything is a good idea at that point. thank god i can't find amphetamines because i'd be that florida man naked in a chicken coop 4 counties away having running there. i stopped drinking soda 14 years ago, was never a coffee guy. so my body is not accustomed to the effects. point: i'm still wired.

god help me, 4 loko is the most inane beverage i can think of, especially mixed with redbull. it's also cheap. like cheaper than bottled water cheap. i like buying it and making everyone else drink it. i'm not ashamed to admit i'm a retard on occasion. we were hot tubbing pouring that garbage into our mouths.

i also need to get a hot tub. like yesterday.

can anyone recommend a site to stream sporting events not being broadcast locally and/or a site that has the playback for sporting events (probably playback because my internet connection here is sketchy)? i'm specifically looking for f1 and rugby.

    thanks.

well, i didn't check tib much this weekend. cj loves him some 4loko and decided to frighten all the kids with deep penetration dildo stories, 'funball was handing out free hand jobs and likes it in the butt, angel celebrated her 40th birthday, downndirty mentioned my favorite band from the 70's (disco werewolf rapist), and 'wildered's husband is a member here now. oh, also, c bell has fairies in her back yard. did i miss anything else?

atdhe is a good one, they change the domain all the time, so just google it and it will pop up. i also like firstrowsports.eu and stream2watch. google them and you should be golden. the pop ups are annoying, but click through them and it should be great.

i don't drink much soda anymore (1-2 a month, max, not including mixers) and never have been a coffee drinker, so i'm the same way. i don't get wired, but i get the body buzz, especially if i don't have a full stomach.

oh 4 loko. the best thing about it, was despite the buzz around it and its terrible flavor, all my friends would drink it, at least for a session or two, the adoption/penetration rate was astounding. when they announced it was being discontinued in its current form, it coincided with a small party we were having so we went and did this...

the liquor store owner down the street started laughing really hard.

and this was all after my first time drinking it in cleveland (which included my friend mixing it with vodka cause he didn't feel the buzz strong enough) lead to us throwing a whole party's worth of beer cans and liquor bottles into the middle of a busy cleveland street, almost hitting a squad car, and spending the next 2 hours dodging spotlights into the apartment and hiding under blankets, wired and paranoid, as the police banged on the apartment door with visions of forcible entries and beatings dancing like sugar plums through our heads.

i've worked in healthcare for the past ten years - specifically the non-profit sector - which means most of my coworkers are women. and as much as people want to complain about women being passive-aggressive, there's a still a huge double-standard when it comes to women in positions of authority: most people, frankly, can't handle assertive women. i can't count the number of times a female manager acted in an appropriate, assertive manner only to be considered a bitch for doing so - even though if a man had acted in the same way there would've been no problem whatsoever. and i'm not just talking about guys, either; lots of women can't handle it any better. there's an implicit expectation that women are supposed to be 'nurturing', so a lot of people don't know how to process when their female manager or director has to discipline them. they take it personally, and the relationship just goes south from there.

obviously, there are bad managers of all genders, but women still have to put up with a bunch of cultural bullshit that makes it more difficult for them to be effective.

my mother has this same problem. she owns our family business and has the final say on all major decisions, but a lot of our clients treat her like "the little lady". she's very assertive and has her shit together, but she constantly gets left out of the loop when people bypass her and call me instead. it's like they don't think she understands the business because of her gender, even though she's been directly involved in it for over 40 years. i've gotten after after a few people about it, saying "don't call me again unless you've talked to her first." i'd like to ask them, "are you scared a lady might tell you what to do? grow the fuck up."

so a friend of mine from college started a new company. he's a bright guy, fairly hard worker, but is full of himself and a bit pie in the sky ambitious. he started a commercial real estate company right out of college due to a relationship with a mentor he had that had a ridiculous website filled with half-truths and had him telling us he anticipating clearly $250k in his second year. the company lasted less than 18 months.

well he moved to california and was working in banking for chase. we fell out of regular contact until last week when he reached out, presented his company, asked for my input, and basically for funding. had a crowdfunding page set up at fundable. without getting too deep into it, its a wireless headphone company. i asked for more info, he sent me their business plan. i was interested at the prospect of investing into things like this, until i saw their financials and growth projections.

-$300/pair price point, to be sold at big box retailers like target, best buy, etc...
-current company valuation of $4mm, minimum investments of $25k (aka $50k would get me barely 1%) despite still being in pre-production with no contracts signed or inventory on hand other than prototypes
-anticipated 100k units sold in year 1, which would net out $15mm in revenue, $3mm of which would be net profit
-projected 1mm in unit sales, $150mm in revenue by year 4.

needless to say, i was stunned. it was like a bad shark tank pitch.
