Because the market manipulators are so entangled into gasoline that things like supply, demand, and the cost of raw materials are no longer the primary drivers of the retail price. Diesel is finally dropping while gas prices are rising where I'm at.
Well right now gas is 1.35 a liter. It only got to 1.39/1.42(somewhere in there) when the price of crude maxed out, and I don't remember the price of crude being this low. I was paying 65cents per liter in high school(grad 01) and price of oil was higher then this. I will pay what ever per liter and be happy with it if they weren't fucking completely and utter raping us with a sandpaper condom. But with the price of gas and the price of crude like it is, it is sure making electric cars look like a good idea.
You mean $2.30/gallon? Come to Houston. I saw gas for $2.28 over the weekend. While gas is nice and cheap here, the oil companies are starting to hemorrhage employees. Many of them budgeted for $60/barrel when shit started to get cheap. So the layoffs are going full force now. Housing prices here are dropping. When gas is cheap, the rest of the country does well, but Texas and Louisiana feel it badly.
Nope. $3.30. Vegas has always had ridiculously high gas prices. They claim it's because it has to be trucked in. That argument fell to pieces when I was driving through Bumblefuck Utah and paid 50 cents a gallon less then what I paid in Vegas.
Fuck you guys, I wish it was 3.30 a gallon. Not factoring in exchange, I am paying 5.10 a gallon. Because even when the Canadian dollar is on par the prices don't change.
I want an electric car. But I don't want to look like a douche. Then there's the problem of charging stations outside the city. So then I'd be a stranded douche in my little douche car. Gas is $2.47 here. If I never pay another cent, willingly (HELLO, SUBSIDIES), to the oil companies, I could die happy. The CEO of Exxon is a space bullfrog. I hate funding space bullfrogs.
Currently gas for regular unleaded here is $2.74 at the lowest, and diesel is like $2.54. Also, holy shit CharlesJohnson is right that is a fucking amphibian from outer space.
When I renovated the house, I put a 240v plug right by the driveway, so I could use a welder or what ever. There is no charging stations anywhere in northern Canada but I would be happy just driving around town in one.
How is diesel cheaper than regular unleaded? We must have some artificial inflation on that shit here. Diesel at its worst was almost a dollar more/gallon than normal gas. Generally its about 30-40 cents higher per gallon.
We're averaging $2.25 here, right now, though I heard on the radio this morning that some places in town are under $2. It was higher than that over the summer, now that school is on the horizon it is dipping. When my daughter turns 16 in a few years, I am hoping to have enough disposable income to get a new car and give her my current ride. I would love a hybrid or full electric, but doubt that will happen. I probably should just knock over a bank, leaving a note that says "Guys I really need a Tesla, please look the other way. kthanx."
GOD DAM IT, 2.25 a gallon that is 60 cents a liter, that it what I was paying 12-13 years ago I high school.
When she turns 18, consider sending her to Old Dominion. There are some dudes at ODU that will be willing to give her a ride. And, you, too. And, apparently, this is upsetting, because ODU is the first college in the history of ever to have party frat boys that want to get laid. http://hamptonroads.com/2015/08/sig...men-odu-offering-good-time-erupt-social-media
Come on bro, Lee Raymond hasn't been CEO of ExxonMobil for a decade. He's spent the last 10 years flying missions with Starfox. DO A BARREL ROLL. The man's retirement package was in the ballpark of $400MM and he'd been making millions for years...yet he still has teeth that would make a British plumber from the 50s cringe. His teeth look like Jafar leading Aladdin into the Cave of Wonders.
West Kelowna put in free quick-charge stations last year... I was pretty amazed. I have no idea if they get used or not, but there are a few of them in touristy areas.
Gas has to be trucked in EVERYWHERE. That's a load of shit they're trying to sell you. Also, Wexton is right, diesel is easier to refine, and SHOULD be cheaper. Back before fuel prices skyrocketed after Katrina hit New Orleans, diesel prices were about 80-90% of what gasoline prices were, or even less if you could get off-road diesel (no road tax paid on it; just don't get caught using it). Gas down here is $2.29 a gallon today.
Also know that you would be ridiculed by every passing car and the comments being made by them. Never at any time does anyone pass those cars and think, "Wow, electric car, what a smart consumer."
Which is why Tesla coming out with a mid-price model would be a game changer. Not only is the Model S electric, its a sexy fucking car and feels like you're driving/riding in a spaceship. Makes Priuses and the Nissan Leaf look like a joke.
