This is so well put and true. It's sad that it takes something catastrophic to bring it all back around full circle but in this case, we needed it, a reboot so to speak. I tear up at the pics of volunteers and rescue workers hugging those poor people, carrying babies, pets, elderly people and so on. Not because I'm sad (although it is terrible) but because it's given me some hope that people don't suck. I heard a CNN reporter's interview with one of the residents. She ripped that interviewer a new asshole. Sure she gave her permission to be interviewed prior but she obviously had other motives for once she got on camera.
Yea that interview got a little awkward. But I think it's pretty tasteless to shove a mic in someone's face and ask them what it feels like to lose everything. I'm just enjoying this dogpile on Osteen. He's such a fuckstick. He went on the Today show and said that had he been asked, he would have opened his church sooner. Fuck him forever.
Yea, but try to give him money and there's no questions asked. Actually, one of the first things he did was set up a donation center at his mega church.... I have a lot of respect for the faith community. My dad and twin go to Church every Sunday and I have no issues with that or anyone who does. Hell I went to church myself last Sunday because I needed some time for introspection. I may not share their beliefs but I think by and large they're normal decent people. Then fuck heads like this come along an inevitably stain the whole group.
If you haven't seen it, this is pretty awesome (and a good way to donate if you want to help). JJ Watt started this with a goal of a million dollars. Then he raised it to 3, then 4, then 5 . . . the new goal is $10 million. https://www.youcaring.com/victimsofhurricaneharvey-915053 A number of athletes, owners and other big donors are chipping in. Good stuff.
An 8 year old from Montana donated her favorite toy to Harvey victims with the note "Dear Little Girl, I hope you like my new doll and her things. Take good care of her and have fun. She was a good friend to me and will be an friend to you." Sometimes kids are awesome.
Aw man. I post one nice story and y'all come in here and shit all over it. No wonder I'm a bitter old man with a shot gun and a beer.
Yeah, if the cynic in me has taught me anything, it's that the note is written by someone way fucking older than 8.
I kind of thought the same thing myself, especially since her parents posted it on FB with a comment something like "Parenting: We're doing it right." But I still want it to be real because it keeps me from being pissed off at the world for a few moments.
Can I help ruin this a bit more? Anything that goes public when an agenda first goes through an advocacy agency and gets torn apart, and pieced back together. Considering how well thats written, Im guessing Lilly is a real person, so to is the person who wrote that in her name.
Retreat into nature by yourself, and it all makes sense. More and more I appreciate those old-school mountain men.
