At least it was better than the Mayweather / Pacquiao fight. (McGregor landed 111 punches, Pacquiao landed 81). But you're right, McGregor never stood a chance here. But he went 10 rounds with the best boxer in the world and that ain't bad. Good note for Floyd to retire on and Conor will go back to the Octagon and hopefully fight Nate Diaz again.
As of right now, there are 170 high water spots throughout the city. Some of us got 20 inches of rain overnight. The place is a lake with people on the roofs of their 2 story houses waiting for rescue. Every major highway is under water right now. I'm just so lucky my neighborhood has decent drainage with only a few inches in my backyard.
I would move. I know, pretty rich from someone who lives in the swamp, but that would be the last straw.
Roger Corman presents: 'GATORCANE!!!!! ....And you thought Sharknados were bad. Of course, I too would be nervous if dinosaurs had suddenly turned my hood into their stomping grounds.
Oh shit. My sister says Barker dam has water about a foot from the top and if it goes over, their house would probably flood. I think the water is up to their sidewalk. Luckily their special needs child is no longer on tubes or wires anymore. They are frantically moving stuff to the upstairs. I am forseeing an even shittier situation for them if they get stuck upstairs... I don't know what will happen after that. You keeping dry xray?
Yes I'm ok. I feel so lucky right now. While we are getting inundated, my neighborhood has drained very well. The problem is our bayous mostly all blew their banks, and when that happens, a river comes into your house. 3 bands of the storm hit us overnight. The first one stalled over the east halfway of town. The second came in and merged with the first. And then a third one came on. They keep dragging moisture off the gulf and generate more rainfall. They don't end until the whole storm moves.
So far, I think it's been good. The national weather service issued what it calls a "flash flood emergency for catastrophic life-threatening flooding". I never heard a warning like that. I think a good amount of people might have died overnight. And people are being rescued from their roofs.
Tell them to bring an axe or chain saw. During Katrina a lot of people drowned because they got stuck in their attic and couldn't get to the roof. And yes, for Houston and surrounding areas, this will be a Katrina-type event. The rain isn't supposed to stop until Thursday.
This is the link for a live stream following the hurricane that I have been using to watch along at home: http://abc13.com/live/abc13.com/live/abc13.com/live/
Yea that what I'm watching too. Seems to have the more competent meteorologists. The rain has picked up again. God help these poor bastards who lost everything.
Yes I have been impressed with their coverage. It is competent without hyping up the problems and seems to take a realistic approach to what's going on. The flooding is bad now but I guess it depends on how much longer it lasts. Looks like there's a tornado warning around the medical center and zoo area, hopefully nothing materializes. My fingers are crossed for everybody over there.
Weather Channel is saying 50 inches of water in houston before this is all over. Because god really hates houston apparently. The Texans are a water polo team right?
The med center is under water. The tornado warning just expired. I saw a picture of Texas children's flooded from the outside. If you watch the CNN coverage, their meterologist could barely hide his boner talking about how bad it might get.
I refuse to watch that coverage. It sickens me when I can tell people are enjoying their "opportunity" like that. I like how on that link I shared they have mentioned many times to help your neighbors if you have a boat. What storm was it that they told the citizens NOT to help unless they had a permit or some shit?
I heard about that. But I don't know because I haven't been through a storm like this since living here, or ever. And I've been through my share of hurricanes. This one sucks the most.
The one where the fucking bureaucrats and lawyers got in the way of common sense. One can only hope that they were ignored and people just did what had to be done.
