I didn't ask if she was breaking the law. You guys called her racist. If she chooses to employ only people whose backgrounds can be completely checked, regardless of skin tone, how is it racism? edit: I don't care about her policies. Her employees generally do a good job cleaning, and they're professional and polite. Other than today - I've never had an issue with them. What she does with her policies and how her policies affect her in the eyes of the USEEOC are not my concern, as long as what I pay for gets done.
She is? All companies are not bound by EEOC laws. Usually, you have to have more than 15 (sometimes 20) full-time employees to have eeoc laws apply. So, that cleaning company could have less than that plus 25 contract workers or something, and she can "discriminate" all she wants. Disclaimer: I am not an employment law attorney.
The ice cream counter may have had some strange policies about who was allowed to sit there, but they sure did make a mean milkshake! And I suppose the Montgomery city bus did get one to and fro in 1955. One needs the trains to run on time. The idea that people with green cards (or even actual citizens!) are somehow of shifty unverifiable identities is hilarious if you've ever seen the amount of documentation that goes into becoming a legal US resident. "Oh, sure, you've lived here for twenty years with over a decade of verifiable employment history, but how do I know who you REALLY are, Jose?"
First - don't throw racism at me like I'm some kind of secret bigot. Any of the problems I've ever expressed with another person have been because of action vs birthright. If, after...what, seven years, between the other board and this one, you think that I have racist viewpoints, that's your mistake, and not mine. Second - don't presume that I hired the company based on this policy. Third - I don't disagree with you that gaining legitimate residency in the US is incredibly painstaking. And detailed. And, knowing that, I can agree that her policy is a bit...harsh...to say the least. That said, don't come at me like I'm defending it. I hired them because they were recommended, a fair price, and generally do good work. The rest is simply a "huh" moment I had when speaking with them.
You literally just said that it's not your concern if a business owner you patronize is a professional bigot, because his or her employees do a good job cleaning.
If she runs a service business (like housekeeping), she probably has her employees in a surety/fidelity bond. In short, it's an insurance policy which states she can't be held liable for illegal shit her employees do. No "racism" required. And as for this thread, way to fuck it up everyone.
I was just going to say the same thing Juice. Everyone please step away from your keyboards and this portion of this thread. One more post about this shit and I'll have to lock the thread and it's slim pickin's in the Suggestions thread. If this topic is that important to you, do us all a favor and take your gripes/discussion to PM.
Wait a minute... So where does one find nude, racist, illegal immigrant house cleaning people? This could be lots of fun.
In other news, Jon Hamm's beard has been signed to host next year's Emmys with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.
It's Oktoberfest! Spoiler Were you expecting something else? The guy at the end reminds me of Eric Stonestreet from Modern Family.
