I have a rug that was appraised at well over 8K, but it is silk and the whole thing was handmade in Iran. I got it while I was overseas for a lark. They can get really expensive. Like, 100K expensive.
A guy I used to work for had a wife who probably filled in her job title on tax filings as 'Rich bitch' or 'probable owner of magic lady parts' - she seemed to spend his money with a great deal of enthusiasm. Probably the best ugly/expensive thing I ever saw her buy was their rug. Was valued at something like $50k and did appear to be fabulously well made. It also looked like pretty much every really expensive rug I've ever seen - ugly as fuck and completely at odds with the likely decor of any modern western home. The most I've ever considered spending on a rug is the $250ish including shipping that it would cost to get myself one of these.
I'm three days behind here, but I see some rug talk. I bought mine 9 years ago. I was feeling pretty rich at the time and wanted an authentic Persian rug for my living room. Nothing but hardwood throughout and earth colours for furniture. The thing was 9K, but I got it on a closing out sale for $1400. Iranian hand made and stunning (primarily red). Totally made my room. Since then have destroyed it. Cats and a teenager who dumped orange slurpee on it. Fuck, I'm hammered. Hi.
Holy shit, August Burns Red and Texas in July put on a helluva good show. Bang your head with me... Next up is the Suicide Silence and Machine Head show on Feb. 7. Can't fucking wait. Finally, alcohol research that should make all of you guys very happy... http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,2017200,00.html
Or, like $1 million expensive, like the ones you seeing hanging up like art in museums. When I worked in flooring my boss had 4' x 3' Persian rug on the wall of his office that was a couple hundred years old and he said it was worth over $65,000. It was smaller than a boogie board, not even big enough to go under a coffee table. To be fair it WAS the softest thing I had ever touched in my entire life, abd it the stitching was so deaile dit looked like a photograph but even if they are hand made as most of these rugs are, the FUCK, man!!!!
Wait, let me get this straight. You people buy rugs? Guess I'm out of the loop. I always assumed rugs were one of the many reasons there were such things as 'landlords.'
I always assumed rugs were for people who thought "Well, that's just what you do with a bare floor." Like their parents and grandparents. You're an adult now, buy a rug. A rug is one more thing to clean. Now you're telling me I have to worry it could one day be worth 25% the value of my home? Fuck off. This adult thing is too much pressure. Also with a rug I can't Risky Business slide in my socks like wood floor. Also gives dogs, and guests, less inclination to scoot ass across it.
