He was saying that they were going to take a week off, but he canceled that and did a week of 1 on 1s.
Yeah, some were alright. I thought it was extended or something this week but turns out the date on todays was listed wrong on iTunes and I had to scroll through it to find it. I'm not sure if it's my ipod's fault or if they just aren't listing them right. It's the second time this has happened during a guest less program with just Ace, Alison, and Bryan.
I doubt that he takes any(much) time off. I think its pretty well known in the comic industry that he is the hardest working guy out there. Look at all of the podcasts that he's on, plus live shows, plus guesting on other shows. On another note, if there could be a segment with Jay Mohr's "Big Momma Got It All" and Jo Koy's "PF Chang Host", I might lose my shit.
That would be the definition of an unstoppable force meeting an immovable object. It would be the most racist thing ever. And it would be incredible.
I think Adam got the message from his staff, because the last few weeks of te Adam and Dr Drew show have been pretty good. Definitely a reduction in the complaining about his family and staff and back to good old ranting about random topics. Hope it stays this way. I also gave Alison Rosens podcast another chance and honestly it's pretty decent, at least much better than I heard the first time around.
The episodes started turning into hour-long rants about his family and interjected with him belittling his staff. It wouldn't be bad if it wasn't the same thing over and over and over. How he hates his parents, problems with his wife, his staff, etc. it got to the point where the full hour would be a continuation of the previous episode. Then listeners started dropping and they saw traffic decrease from that show. They went on vacation, came back, and he doesn't bitch as much, just back to the normal ranting and commentary.
Might have to give it another shot, I quit listening awhile ago for those reasons, they must have saw quite a drop in downloads.
I'm just curious, not saying you're wrong, but are you speculating this or was this mentioned on the pod? That's what I'm wondering. Its a logical conclusion, I'm just wondering. Or does iTunes show how many downloads there are and it shows the drop-off? I use his app or just stream it off the site.
Yeah Ill wonder where this info is coming from. The show was getting rather tiring as it just became Adam bitching about his staff and or family and Dr Drew meekly interjects every once in a while. Ill have to re listen to the latest ones but I haven't heard that big of a change. I think they are taking more callers then they used to which is good. Far cry from the first test episodes where Adam jagged about statutory rape ballads of the 70's and dealing with a gay son.
Mostly speculation. They had made some comment about a dip in the numbers, (not this show, one of the others I think) and as soon as Adam came back from vacation it seemed like his attitude changed. I just put it together.
I'm so far behind but finally got to the Bryan Cranston call in part and that was fucking hilarious. I love how they unfolded it so slowly and perfectly. I'm trying to catch up, but listening to 2-3 a day takes a lot out of you. Oh and then there was this. http://www.adweek.com/news/advertising- ... lla-152938
Ahh like most marketing aggregates nothing but basics on the Aceman. I'd really like to see the type of empire his podcast really pulls in. I mean are his podcast ad earnings comparable or more lucrative than his radio earnings? I mean I know radio isn't what it was in the 90s. I read Bubba The Love Spounge spat at the idea of a sirius deal a few years ago for 120k for a radio show. Is it 300K? 500? I really don't see Bald Bryan or Alison making more than 60-70 a year, which is a total guess. I'd guess the live shows are the biggest earners. But they don't do big concert halls Id guess he'd probably make maybe 5-7k a show which he'd have to wack up with the guest, Bald and Alison, and his crew. What does Mangrea bring in? He mentioned a million cases (or bottles?). I mean all told it's probably pretty fucking good.
Fucks up with the podcast today? Anyone else having trouble downloading the full thing? I downloaded it twice to my iPod and at an hour in it cuts away to "this is the ace broadcasting network" and ends. Then I tried listening to the site and it went further but pulled the same thing in the middle of the news. The fuck homie!?!
Hell Im a fan and barely knew about this: Adam settles case with Donny over podcast empire. Pretty Lengthy write up of the whole thing I guess Donny was originally asking for a 60/30/10 split in the company in a partnership role. Sounds like Carolla left everything vague and they never pinned anything down and he eventually just canned him. The total money number for his podcast is 14 million. Everything is so vague you really can't tell who was at fault. Adam certainly cut any and all mention of Donny out of the podcast, outside of I think once he mentioned him leaving very briefly, and he certainly never mentioned a single detail of this lawsuit outside of "Ive got all sorts of lawsuits against me" lines.
Carolla brought it up once on his podcast when he first fired him. Basically Donny was not getting along with a lot of the staff at the company and tried to micromanage a lot of shit. Adam talked to him about it numerous times and even warned him that if he didn't knock it off he was going to have to let him go. He pushed the buttons and got himself shit canned. Carolla is at fault for simply not documenting the agreement properly. He acknowledged the "partnership" on the air multiple times, but that was probably more of a figure of speech than anything, but in court that doesnt fly. Granted, this is one side of the story. To be fair he did help Adam launch the podcast and it was his idea, so I think that argument has some merit there. The company probably made the vast majority of its profits between 2012 and now versus 2009 - 2012, so I cant imagine his 30% is all that much, probably less than $1M if I were to guess. Dr. Drew discussed it briefly with Adams wife on his podcast and it sounds like the whole situation really fucked Adam up emotionally. However funny I think the podcasts are, I think he would be a nightmare to work for.
I have no background to know how contract law works, seems pretty shaky claim on Donny's part if there was never anything official. So it would be based on what the law says about verbal agreements. Looks like that broke down after the judge ruled against him. The long read up does detail that everyone knew it would take a couple of years to pay off and riches would come later. That was part of Donny's argument it would seem. I'd be curious to see how much is made in live shows vs add revenue. What add revenue would be like for Adam's podcast vs other people on the Carolla network. Was Mangria added into this 14 mill total?
Cray Cray to wake up and boot up the first ACS show of 2015 to hear Alison Rosen is gone for unspecified reasons. Did not see that one coming. I hadn't dug some of her schtick early on but she really had become part of the show. She claims she'll talk more about it in coming weeks on her podcast. DRAMA! I found it a little weird Adam referred to her as the "side kick." I never saw her like that at all. Also strange he talked with the new girl about how he thought it stunk that in radio they'd change format/host with no warning one day to the next, when that is exactly what happened with Alison.
I'm still listening to the pods from early December, but in November, starting with the DAG dream, she talked about stuff on the podcast affecting her marriage more than she's ever have. Might have something to do with that. This is interesting as hell. This article has what he said written out.
