I'm a big fan of Dumbfoundead. I'm really into the detached/amused style he uses in the middle of some ridiculous punchlines. Generally, though, I feel like you have to be an active follower of GrindTime to get the most out of it, and I can't be fucked watching all that shit; I guess I'm not so much a fan of the battle scene as I am of dudes getting embarrassed on camera. (Gay joke in 3, 2, 1...)

Ok, first of all, I'm kinda drunk, so this might not make any sense. I'm kind of excited for the state of hip-hop. I don't know how anybody could say that it's dead.

I know cats have short memories for this shit, but this (broadly speaking) new class is fucking tight. I don't even like all of their shit, but tell me you couldn't fill a six hour plane ride with:

Wiz Khalifa
Tyler
J. Cole
Slaughterhouse
Wale
Cudi
Curren$y
Drake
Charles Hamilton

Etc., etc. And that's just off the top of my head, and not even counting established shit. Or more obscure shit. Or Childish Gambino, who I forgot until just now. Seriously. I've been listening to Goblin, More About Nothing, The Come Up, and Rolling Papers, and those are four extremely intriguing albums that are in the same genre, and are entirely different. And people were saying hip hop was dead.

Like for real for real, the two rappers I personally hear the most buzz about right now are Tyler and Childish Gambino. One talks about raping pregnant women. One is on an NBC sitcom.

Is this real life.

Goblin review on deck.

Nom's post reminded me of Charles Hamilton. Anyone know what is going on with this guy? I had just started getting into his stuff and then he just sort of disappeared. Is he working on something?

Not overly a Childish Gambino fan, but I'm digging this one.

"I wanna suck your breasts and fingerblast to Frank Ocean." Call me, Donald Glover. Seriously.

Last I heard of him he was checked into a mental hospital. I think I saw that on rapradar, but that was several months ago. Not sure of that was a publicity stunt or for real, but I haven't heard a thing about him since.

And what's all this Goblin talk? It's an album or an artist? If the link above is for Goblin I apologize, I'm on my phone right now and cannot go to it.

I know tons of old-school hip-hop fans that aren't into many, if any, of the artists you mentioned, Nom. While I don't think hip-hop's dead, it's certainly within the scope of the imagination to see it as on the decline.

I recently gave Lil' Kim's 2005 album "The Naked Truth" a listen, and it deserves more recognition than it gets, which is none that I've seen. I'm especially impressed by the number of different styles she affects while rapping. She can go from Biggie to T.I. to Marley and not have it seem too out of place. The album's overlong and got too much filler, but the gems aren't too far in between.

Elzhi from Slum Village released his first solo mixtape. It's a tribute to Nas' Illmatic called Elmatic, and it's pretty good. Anyway, here's the single from it.

Vast Aire released an album titled OX 2010 a few days ago. I'm listening to it now and am digging it. If you are unfamiliar with Vast Aire, I strongly strongly recommend the project he did with El-P (of Company Flow) and Vordul Mega called "Cannibal Ox - The Cold Vein." It is one of my favorite underground hip hop albums ever. Outstanding production and filthy rhymes. Vast Aire's new album has a lot of the same aesthetic.

Anybody else listen to Chiddy Bang's new mixtape Peanut Butter and Swelly? Pretty solid, standard, exactly-what-I-expected fare from Chiddy and Xaphoon. Except 'Baby Roulette' - that song just annoys me.

Black Milk, Guilty Simpson, and Sean Price put out a joint LP under the name Random Axe. Album is self-titled. If you're familiar with the artists then this information is enough to make you go get it right now. If not, then STEP YO GAME UP, HO.

Very funky, interesting production and the same awesome lyricism you expect from these guys. Great album. Check it out.

Just want to add on to Jenni's review; this is an excellent tape. These guys have an album scheduled for later this year and if these are the songs they put on a mixtape I am incredibly excited for the album. Excellent production and lyricism. Give it a listen.

Anyone else know Shabazz Palaces? I just started listening to his stuff (he's released two EPs and an album) and I'm blown away. This is the most interesting hip hop I've heard in some time. Both the production and lyricism are very experimental and innovative. He's taking some great electronic music elements and proving that rappers don't have to rap over simple, straightforward beats. Hopefully other rappers follow his lead. Highly recommend if you're want to try out some atypical hip hop.

Here's a sample:

Kendrick Lamar's Section 80 is one hell of a mixtape. Give it a listen. There has been a huge flood of awesome new hip hop lately, where the hell are the rest of you idiots?

Agree with Shabazz Palaces and Kendrick Lamar. I'd recommend everyone check out Cory Gunz new mixtape Son Of a Gun. Here is the link for a free listen. http://www.datpiff.com/Cory-Gunz-Son-Of ... 46279.html
