JUst found out about Hospin. I don't know how I feel about this dude. He is pretty good, good flow word play etc.... but I can't shake the feeling that he's trying to be Eminem. Hell even the beat is like a shitty DRE beat. That being said the 2 songs I posted bellow are still pretty dope.

Some hiphop I've been listening to lately.

Sweet Mulatu Astatke sample. Could'nt find it on youtube, here's a bandcamp link instead. Pick up the No Humans Allowed EP, great stuff.

Uh oh... As much as I like Tyler, the Creator and Odd Future and had never even heard of Hopsin until he showed up in this thread... Hopsin DESTROYS this.

I just listened to a couple of his songs. French, yonkers, VCR, Tron Cats, lets dance and a few others. Personally he does nothing for me. I don't knock other peoples opinions of music much, but I dont see anything that makes him stand out. I don't wanna be one of those guys but Hopsin is easier to listen to for me.

I'm sure its partially because I've never been much of a fan of the slow flow and slower harder hitting beats

He's got a decent flow, but why is he dancing around like a retard? My gut reaction, based on nothing but that video, is he's what would happen if you took a normal rapper and told him to do an OF shtick. It doesn't come across as genuine at all. Honestly, this is the first thing that came to mind.

The part of the video that seems most true to his personality is the parts when he crossdresses. No lie.

What are people's thoughts on Watch The Throne?

I've listened to it a few times through now. The production is absolutely top notch, which is to be expected considering the guys they have handling that department. Lyrically, I feel like this album is like one of those brownie obsession things they sell. Absolutely decadent to a point where it can be a taste explosion at some points, but at other times can just feel like a downright disgusting quantity of flavor.

It is worth mentioning though that although the album is outwardly self-congratulation ad-nauseum, it does have a good bit of sober reflection too...just don't expect it to be obvious.

Even though this is a Jay-Z & Kanye album, I have to say it feels a lot more like a Kanye album where he decided to collaborate with Jay-Z a shitload of times. This is fine by me since Kanye is a far superior artist. He is a decent rapper with an interesting character. Jay-Z, on the other hand, seems like he is having a harder and harder time being exceptional. Don't get me wrong, he can still do it...it just seems like he needs to try a lot harder to do so.

Overall I'd say it is a very solid album. Lyrically, it could have been better if Jay-Z's contributions were reduced and replaced with other people and then billed as a Kanye album, but then the album would lose most of it's role in the narrative the two are trying to construct. Plus, this gives Kanye a great out as far as following MBDTF. If no one likes this he can say "hey it wasn't MY album." If they do like it he can move forward without the follow-up to a classic pressure. I think people will largely fall on the side of the latter.

    Thoughts?

Between the Frank Ocean appearances and "Niggas in Paris" opening with a Blades of Glory quote, I'm ready to marry Watch the Throne.

I personally love Watch The Throne. As mentioned earlier, the production is top notch, and while I think Kanye does carry the album, Jay adds quite a bit. One of my favorite tracks, is the itunes bonus track, The Joy. They both seem to hit their stride, all the while going along with a Curtis Mayfield sample. My opinion may not be the best though, because I love both artists. Overall though, I'd say it is a great album that will obviously have great commercial success.

On another note, I just got the new Game album, The R.E.D. Album, and I love it also. Maybe I just love to listen to successful artists, but with the Game teaming back up with Dr Dre, he makes for a great album. From the opening track, The City, it just goes really well with his style and flow. One song to note, would be the one with Tyler The Creator. I know how people have mentioned him before on this forum, but the track is really good and he pretty much makes it. I would definitely recommend that you at least give the R.E.D. album a listen. As I said, maybe I am just a sucker for the artists that have had great success...

Just listened to the Self Made album from Maybach Music Group. Nothing too special...I wasn't impressed by it but Wale held his own. This is one of the more stand out tracks:

Anybody fucked with Danny Brown yet? I don't think I've heard anything like this.....it's strictly swear words....drug references....and hard as fuck beats....his style is outta this world too.

I think I might have posted about him before. If not then I fucked up; dude is loaded with talent. I enjoyed the hell out of his first mixtape "The Hybrid." Haven't gotten around to listening to his new one yet but the dude definitely has a crazy style. He reminds me a bit of Cyprus Hill when he goes off but he can also relax and write something really interesting. This track is an example of the latter and is one of my favorite songs in recent memory. Great beat too.

Anyone feeling The Weeknd? I'm biased because I've known the guy for a while before he blew up (and his boys/Drake's crew drink at my usual watering hole) but god damn, he's doing something new and I'm really fucking with it.

Loved the first album but haven't gotten around to listening to the new one yet.

In other news, Tha Carter IV leaked today. Good new for all the other downloading assholes.
