Also, I really want to mention Dice Raw. If you're a fan of The Roots you'll know him from the huge amount of songs of theirs he has featured on. He recently released an EP called Greatest Rapper Never. It came out some time ago and I had trouble finding it initially so I sort of forgot about it. I finally got around to listening to it recently and I am really loving it. It baffles me how little press it has gotten considering how great it is. Highly recommend. Very good production and sampling and wonderful storytelling rap. Give this track a listen and see if it doesn't make you nostalgic...even if you don't remember a damn thing about 1995.

It's so sad to see how few views it has on youtube. You'd think a guy who has the cosign from a group like The Roots would get more attention.

The game absolutely wrecks his verse. Tyler's verse is allright nothing special but he does call out Game on name dropping on his own shit.

Anyone listen to OCD Moosh and Twist? They are a couple of dudes who just graduated HS in Philly, but they have mad potential. They dropped a new EP and its pretty awesome.

This is one of their "older tracks", but its just catchy, well done stuff.

For being completely budget and really young, their production and videos are impressive quality wise.

The Dream dropped a free album '1977'.

Just further proves how far better he is at R&B than anyone is/ever will be.

J Cole's new album is available for pre-order(therefore has also leaked). It's pretty consistent with what J. Cole has put out so far; clever lines, heartfelt honesty, and catchy hooks. There's a few bangers, and a few songs that were on previous mix tapes. The production is shored up quite a bit from the mix tapes as well. Quality cd, but upon first listen I wasn't as blown away as I'd hoped to be. I guess I was expecting a huge jump from mixtape to actual album, but Cole's mixtapes were so good that it's hard to make a giant leap. Either way, i'll be bumping it for a while.

Been listening to Mellowhype's Blackendwhite over the last few weeks...I'm into it big time, it hasn't left my car stereo. Great production, great flows. I think I prefer it over Goblin actually.

Roach Gigz has been a Bay Area phenom for a few years now, but I think it's only recently he's found the flow that works for him.

    That guy's kind of... eh.

This dude, on the other hand, has obvious talent and a pretty unique sound.

Well, alright J. Cole. I might cop this, but I swear if you pull a Wale on me...I don't know if I can take it.

I was immensely disappointed with Cole's album. Download it first, give it a thorough listen, then decide if you buy it or not. Phonte's Charity Starts at Home is what Cole World should have been. Phonte's solo debut is worth buying.

Yeah J. Cole's album had some good moments but, on the whole, was basically no more impressive than one of his mixtapes. To be sure, all his mixtapes have excellent...for mixtapes. But I expect more out of an album, and I didn't really get it. If it were a mixtape, I would have given it like an 8/10...but for an album, no more than a 6/10.

Ugh and don't get me started on Wale. I was in love with the dude after his 100 Miles and Running, Mixtape About Nothing, and Back to the Feature. But his album was complete shit. Horrible attempt at crossing over. What's amazing is that his More About Nothing tape was a lot fun too, so the dude can clearly get it done. Seems like this happens with a lot of rappers these days where they'll put out great stuff when they're just screwing around and having fun but then they try to cash in on the fame with some crossover tracks and end up completely blowing it. Fingers crossed for Danny Brown.

I feel like this a function of rappers attempting to cultivate mainstream success. Lupe's L.A.S.E.R.S. also comes to mind when I think about albums that I simply expected more of.

That being said, I continue to bang Phonte's Charity Starts At Home.

Gave Wale's "Ambition" a quick listen. My first impression is that its good, but nothing special. I felt the same way about J. Cole's album, these guys can spit but it seems as if they use their best material on their mix tapes and then their albums just sound so generic.

Tech Nine's "Strangeland" drops November 8th, can't wait for that he's one of my favorites.

I would agree. After hearing Wale run wild on freestyles (Hold You, No One Be Like You, and his I'm On One rampage come to mind), I was beyond excited and thought he's one of, if not the best, lyricist in the game right now. But then Ambition was just eh. I mean, I'll listen to it, but I'm not gonna excitedly send tracks to my friends or rewind to hear lines constantly.

What are y'all's thoughts on Childish Gambino? Part of me wants to dismiss him as gimmicky, but he's relentlessly clever and lyrically nimble. I'm cautiously optimistic about Camp.
