I feel the same. I wasn't overly excited for Nucky's butler or Chalkie's thug's story lines but now they are both interesting. Hell I haven't even been thrilled about Van Alden in a while. I much preferred his insane religious zeal over his recent spineless bullshit, but being paired with Capone? Works for me. Really nice to see Myers Lanskey and Lucky back in the picture. I didn't know if they'd show the gambling addict side of Rothstein but they did which was cool. Hopefully they reign it in as it is spreading a bit thin.
I'd watch the Al Capone and Mueller/Van Alden show every week. Nucky's butler and Capone's brother (Herc from the Wire) were also very funny together.
I didn't think the college kid plotline has any legs to it. But it looks like he inadvertently killed that kid. Should be interesting. I could watch the Rothstein show with a side of Capone any day of the week.
Even with the kids accidental death it's still a lame storyline. It's like they are trying to insert an AJ Soprano in this show. I guess he could keep going to Waxy Gordon for help which could undermine his dad but I'd rather them focus on much better elements they have set up. Still his story still beats out Gretchen Mol and the super market guy's. Can't they cast that woman off like they did Mrs Sourpussface?
I will miss Eddie. Last week's episode was great. I'm enjoying Van Alden and Capone more than anything. What's worse is my dumbass looked up Frank Capone on Wiki about 10 seconds before he dies. *Pulls out phone* Al starts shouting at the workers *Pulls up Wiki* Fight breaks out *Looks up Frank* everyone is getting their ass kicked *sees that he dies* Van Alden points gun at crawling Al, sees Frank look at him, Frank Capone gets LIT UP. *Throws phone down on couch angrily* Odd thing is, for the sake of the show, they switched out the personalities of Frank and Al. I love how they're portraying Al, but before Frank's death, Frank was the crazy one and Al was the level headed one. Then Frank dies and Al is more like the Al we've seen on this show. Now Van Alden is going to become his balance as he's going to need someone to lean on.
Why did he kill himself? Just because he (sorta) ratted on Nucky? That was kind of an odd, abrupt ending for him. The actor must have wanted out or something. Yeah I would agree with the Chicago storyline. Really enjoying Capone this season. Still no sourpussface. Awesome.
I think he did it because he felt so guilty about even the little bit of information he gave away. I also think he found himself way in over his head.
Yeah I think Eddie was just another wannabe that was never going to be able to handle it. The agents had him dead to rights about his low level criminal failure in Germany. I'm so so on if I'll miss him. He was a one note character up until the last few episodes of last season. I think I'll miss Capone's brother more since he seemed like a very interesting character in his short stint. Gillian Dormity needs to go something bad. Now sorry to be the bearer of bad news, hopefully not, but Ive heard rumors (of the internet message board variety), that Mrs. Sourpussface does return in the coming episodes.
Nucky probably wont care about Eddie, kind of like he didnt really care about Jimmy, the Commodore, Margaret, etc. The only one that really affected him was Billy Kent, and I would argue it was because it ended on someone elses terms, not his.
She brings absolutely nothing to the story and wastes valuable on-screen real estate. I can't stand her whiny garbage.
I'd say he has lingering struggles with Jimmy. At least he did for a while last season. Billy Kent was heavy too until it's been kind of schleft off.
At first, I found it odd as well. But it would have made Seasons 1-3 a lot more boring had Al Capone not flown off the wall in all of those scenes. Nucky and Rothstein are level-headed and calm negotiators, it would have lessened the show considerably had they written Capone like that as well.
The season is not bad. A little boring with no suspense. I do enjoy watching that psychopathic FBI agent though. I also just can't get over the way Chalky speaks. Its not a racial criticism. I mean, its just Omar in the 1920's. I think it should be a little more genuine and I feel like he is a one trick pony.
Yeah most of it has been pretty flat. The fuck did they need Miss Sourpussface for once shitty scene? Chalky's downer shit has been kind of lame and I'm more interested in his lackey's line than his at this point. The FBI agent is basically the new Van Alden as far as unpredictable psycho's go. I was wondering what Nucky's brother was doing in the last scene where he looks at the monogrammed handkerchief. I didn't quite catch the significance of his glance at it.
I yelled at my laptop when I saw her there. She couldn't even look the least bit pleasant. I hate her. I'm assuming that handkerchief had something in that embroidery that told Eli not to trust him. I feel that if an episode doesn't involve Capone, they should just cut to a 7 second clip where he's just mercilessly beating the shit out of someone. And then go back to the story. The problem they will run into is that they can only deviate from history so much before they change it.
Im not too big on my mafia history outside of some wikipedia splurges. I think the wide version is still able to go along with history pretty well. Im not sure if the whole Tampa thing was historical or just supposed to be a link to other major events. Each season has really only covered about a years time which puts them about 1924 (same year Capones brother bought it). This show certainly has not had the same buzz as the first few, which were renewed within the first episode or so. If they cancelled and had to shorten an ending they've got a lot of things set in place.
Saw this yesterday, over on Warming Glow. It pertains, so I am sharing it: “A handkerchief with a monogram that clearly means something to Eli. What? That we’ll have to wait and find out.” The handerchief has the initials JTM on them. Hoover calls Knox “Jim” despite the fact that the name he goes by to everyone else – and the name that Nucky checked out – was Warren Knox. Eli just made the connection that Knox isn’t who he says he is. You’re welcome. Also “I wouldn’t put something alive in a box” might be the line of the season. http://www.uproxx.com/tv/2013/10/the-8- ... th-star/2/
Good episode last night. Christ that reunion between Rothstein and Margaret was as awkward as it was funny. The grin on Rothsteins face during the whole encounter was golden.
I agree, that scene was awesome. Rothstein is going to be using her for something. Also, took me about 5 minutes to realize that Dr. Narcisse killed Daughter's mother. Not exactly sure why he killed her mother, I'm confused. Also found it fascinating that Means knew about Knox, but told Nucky nothing. I like this new dark Nucky who is on his game.
