I do know that one town in Michigan is majority Muslim, I think they even have the city wide call to prayer over loud speakers. That may be part of it there. In Mississippi, those folks have a different view on life. The area I lived was literally like stepping back in time 40-50 years. They do not like change of any kind. They do not like things that are different. They do not like people that act different. There was a growing Muslim population in north MS when I lived there, and stereotypical as it sounds, they were buying up all the Quicky Marts. All of them. Folks didn't like that. Nor were they real happy when the new owners of the stores would start selling bongs and pipes and accessories with pot leafs on them. Imagine that happening in an insulated community in the 1960's...like I said, the area was like a time warp back to the early to mid 60's. They saw it as outsiders trying to change their way of life, which right or wrong, no one likes that. So there was a great deal of resentment towards these people that, in their view, act funny ("Y'all don't eat biscuits & gravy? What the hell is wrong with you?") and are trying to change the area.
Both Democratic candidates made a big promise: No more deportation of children or non-criminals. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/democratic-debate-immigration_us_56e0f483e4b0860f99d7e570 How exactly does this work? If you're in this country illegally doesn't that make you a de facto criminal?
If you have interest in the current political climate and how we got here, I highly recommend that you watch 'Best of Enemies' - it is a documentary about the 1968 debates between William Buckley, Jr. and Gore Vidal. You will be chilled at how those debates shaped the current debate and how that's been playing out. It is currently on Netflix.
Really simple, and when people don't know any of the demographic in question, its super easy to think of them in simple, broad strokes. I think gay rights are similar. There are plenty of people who were/are against gay rights without any firm or religious basis. They are just this nebulous, different group to people who may have never met a gay/lesbian person and thus its super easy to follow a "popular" opinion and bucket them. If you had a Muslim friend or neighbor who was a normal, hard working person, you might have a different opinion. But if you live in a white washed area filled with simple minded idiots just like yourself, its WAY easier and lazier to assume the worst.
I had a friend that asked my opinion on the new terrorist church they were opening on the west side. I had no clue what he was talking about. He then pulled up an article about the opening of a mosque. He was 100% serious. He had no idea not all Muslims were terrorists. This same person went to a football game with me once. The people next to us were black. He wanted to switch me seats because he was scared of them. This was odd to me. Most racists I knew were the type that would tell off color jokes, fly rebel flags and drink Busch Light. He was literally scared of things that were different than him. And not in a hateful way. I would guess this comes from ignorance and fox news? Not really sure. We are no longer friends.
Just an FYI. CNN just showed this graphic: Which seemed a bit scary that the Norks had that kind of range. I went and looked and the general consensus is more like this:
I would love to get the reaction of a real expert on that. It seems that every time the news tries to report on this shit, they get it so very, very wrong, with the intent to create some sensationalism around it in order to drive eyeballs to their site/channel. They do that with computer security shit, and it drives me nuts. "OH MY GOD THE WORLD IS GOING TO END IF YOU PLUG INTO THE INTERNET". No, it's not. That has caused me to be overly sceptical around anything they say like this... and I tend to believe some actual expert somewhere is rolling his eyes saying, "give me a break". Or, is he saying, "you know, that's not that far off..."? If only the news actually provided some expert reporting of some sort.
Not necessarily. If you don't get arrested, prosecuted and convicted, are you a criminal? Also, the quote in the article reads "Each said they would not deport children or non-criminal undocumented immigrants." I think that implies other crimes besides being undocumented. I drove well over the speed limit today, several times. That's against the law, but I don't know if it makes me a criminal.
So, the phrase "non-criminal undocumented immigrant" seems pretty dumb. Didn't the term "undocumented immigrant" replace "illegal alien" to not place unnecessary burden on them with the "illegal" label? But, now the phrase "non-criminal" is added before "undocumented immigrant" because . . . it needs to be specified that their crime of being undocumented is to be ignored, like my speeding?
Because an illegal alien isn't depriving you of anything on the basis of simply being in the US. If he's in your house, then he's depriving you of something you worked for. In most cases, illegal immigrants contribute more to the economy than they take away.
When I lived in Mississippi and had to go back to work there was a furniture factory about a mile from my house. I applied and checked back constantly. I had all the skills they needed and then some, plus references up the wahoo. They never did hire me. Instead, every two months like clock work, they would get raided by INS and lose 8 illegals in their employ and replace them with 8 more. So yeah, they kind of did deprive me of something there. Did you know that in Las Vegas there are a lot of jobs you can't get unless you speak Spanish? Just about anything that deals with the public. Because of the large population of illegals here. Nope, they're not depriving anyone of anything. Do you know that the majority of them with cars drive without insurance and no license? If you're walking down the street and one of them hits you, to bad, so sad.
I'm sympathetic to illegal immigrants, but the idea that we can give citizenship to anyone who crosses the border without heroin strapped to their body is a really terrible one. You're also never going to convince me that people coming over with few to no employable skills and no English aren't going to be more likely to turn to crime. When you start giving amnesty to people who cheat the system, you're likely going to lengthen the wait times for people who are doing things right, or eliminate their chances altogether. And if you denounce every criticism of open gate border policies as racist you're a fucking idiot.
The type of person who's driven enough to leave their home country, deal with the threat of deportation, and somehow make a life for themselves (sometimes with their family) while working multiple shitty jobs for shitty money is the type of person I want living in my country. They leave everything they know behind them for opportunity to possibly have a better life in a country where a presidential candidate is promising to build the biggest fucking wall this side of China. Aside from the fact that removing 11 million undocumented people would be only slightly easier than removing piss out of a swimming pool, do you really think that soft-ass Americans are taking the jobs that these undocumented workers no longer have?
That type of person is everywhere in the world. I'm sorry, but it's just not a realistic answer to say any of them can come if they want. That's also not the only type of person who wants to come over. As I said, I'm sympathetic and contrary to what my post may have indicated I'm also not the type who wants a 50 foot electric fence and a heavy boot for those had made it over. If I had it my way, there would be a loosening on the restrictions for employers sponsoring non-citizens, and giving a more attainable pathway to citizenship, especially for those employed. That's not the answer in full, but it's a start. With regards to no one taking those jobs, the market will correct it, with some likely bumps. Maybe wages will go up. Maybe more Americans have to do housework themselves. With the scenario I was talking about, it also makes it less likely they have to take shitty jobs for $5 an hour under the table.
Not just unskilled labor, dude. Down here in the Asshole of Texas (which is absolutely crawling with illegals), the pay-rates for auto/truck-repair and construction work is a lot lower than other areas of the state, I'd say by about 20%. That is because those fields have been flooded with cheap, inferior-quality labor. As far as the crime aspect goes, no, not all illegal immigrants are thugs. But some are. The population of the county jail down here is probably about 40% illegal immigrants. It got to the point where the county built a whole new jail (about a 2,000 man unit) JUST for illegal immigrants.
Trump is too funny. "This guy, he endorsed me. She endorsed me. I love that guy. He's being cunty because I wouldn't go on his show." The debate tonight is great. Moderator: "The social security administration says it will go bankrupt unless changes are made. What changes are you going to make to address this problem?" Trump: "None. And then I'm going to make America great again." Audience" Whoooo! Yeaaaahhhh!." So far though this debate is 100x better than the others I've seen. They're talking about the issues instead of bitch slapping each other. Mostly.
I'm not going to pretend that the immigration situation isn't complex, but it doesn't have to be black or white. If we prohibit all immigrant labor our economy will be fucked. So: 1) Enforce exiting immigration laws, and do it consistently. 2) Establish and stick to an immigration quota 3) Despite what some of you think, there are many jobs that immigrants have that will go unfilled by Americans, including dishwashers, busboys, produce harvesting, and yes, landscaping. Being forced to hire a middle aged man to cut grass will put many landscaping business out of business, and I know that for a fact. contrary to how you envision it, it isn't just cutting grass in the summer, when high school and collet kids are available. So, for these sorts of jobs, change the work visa laws to allow these jobs to be filled. 4) Taking Toytoy's experience into account, preclude immigrants on work visa from being employed at manufacturing and construction jobs unless the employer can show that the position the are trying to fill went vacant for more than 6 months. Employers must keep resumes and applications on file to show they have tried to fill the position. 5) Immigrants on work visas are prohibited from bringing heir families over. To bring your family, you must be employed in the U.S. and apply for legal status for both you and your family. Approval is not guaranteed under any circumstances.
Bravo, Cruz. Introduce a guy who calls for the murder of all gay people. Who the fuck let this psychopath become a politician?
