Good lord. Maybe it's because your son was a thug who, at the very least, committed the offense of breaking and entering. What do you expect when your kid is a POS? Or doing drugs? Or running around with shitty people? Are you really that surprised? Play shitty games, win shitty prizes.

To go to a different topic for a moment... http://www.cnn.com/2016/03/31/politics/trump-view-from-south-korea-japan/index.html

I really don't get what the fuck they're crying about. They bitch about US troops being there ALL THE TIME, and now they're bitching because a candidate wants them to leave. Make up your fucking mind, already.

I know people are going to complain about the US military no matter what, it's just annoying. For my money, I say pull the fuck out. There's no reason these countries should skimp on defense while we foot the bill. It's complete bullshit. It's not like Japan and South Korea can't afford it. Pull out of Germany and the rest of Europe while we're at it too. It's about time.

Sounds like what they said between WWI and WWII. History shows why is leaving would be a bad idea. American Isolationism has never worked and has only led to two massive world wars that we inevitably got dragged into.

I'll use WWII as my example. After WWI, Americans were very isolationist when it came to Europe. We refused to join the League of Nations (our idea, btw), refused to intervene when fascists and nazis rose to power in Europe, refused to intervene when Germany was blatantly disregarding the Treaty of Versailles, totally ignored Germany as they built a massive army, didn't touch Italy when they invaded Ethiopia, shrugged casually when Japan invaded China, and watched as the entire world descended into a massive conflict while we sat by and held our dicks. By the time we got involved, it was way worse than it ever had to get, and if Hitler weren't fucking retarded and didn't attack the Soviets, everyone in Europe would be speaking German today and the Jewish people would see their population hovering around 15% of what it is now, while we sat by saying "Welp, fuck it, not our problem."

If we pull out of Japan and S Korea, and put nukes there, we are basically inviting World War 3 at worst, and Cold War part 2 at best.

First of all, N Korea is batshit crazy and who knows what they'd do. Second of all, if you think Russia OR China are gonna be cool with Nuclear missiles that close to their nations, you're insane (the article states Trump wants to replace troops with Nukes in those nations, and we know he is fucking insane). Eisenhower had a similar plan in the 50s that saw the biggest nuclear build up in history, as we raced to create more nukes and less soldiers. The policies were called Massive Retaliation and Brinkmanship, because they kept America on the constant brink of Nuclear war. Is that really the Americs we want to live in? Just turn the clock back to the Cold War 1950s? I know that is what most republicans are referring to when they talk about the "good old days" of America, but I don't think they mean the fucking Cold War. Jesus, while we're at it, why don't we dust off Bert the Turtle and some Duck and Cover videos to show the kids in school, in case uncle Vlad, glorious leader, or a it big Brother China gets a little testy over our putting nuclear weapons within spitting distance of their nations.

And for the record, Eisenhower didn't propose removing all the troops from Japan or S Korea to do it. He lessened the size of those enlisted in favor of spending money on nuclear arms, but still maintained foreign bases.

Finally, Japan is limited by the constitution they made (that we "helped" them make) after WWII that limits their military, while S Korea isn't exactly skimping on their military, what with military service being basically mandatory for all men there. The fact is S Korea could be fine against N Korea if they started some (non-nuclear) shit, but if Russia or China get involved, S Korea would get fucked harder than Jared from Subway in General Population, leaving us to do what? Launch nukes?

What you are saying makes no sense. The above statement is the most ridiculous thing anyone has said in this entire thread. Seriously.

    1. This isn't the 1930s.
    2. The cold war is over, pulling troops out will not restart it.
    3. No one advocated isolationism.
    4. We can respond to something like another Hitler without having bases packed to the brim in every possible country. Really.
    5. We don't have to put nukes there just because we move troops as Trump suggested. Those countries can get more troops. Or in the case of South Korea, yeah, they probably already have enough.
    6. Why would you possibly think Russia or China might invade South Korea now? Why the fuck would they do that? Trust me, they won't.
    7. US troops aren't even the real deterrent for preventing a war with China or Russia. That's long since been obvious.
    8. Japan's constitution is their problem, not ours.

Your understanding of global politics is downright comical. I'm sorry, but saying pulling troops out (and we don't even have to pull all of them out) is an automatic cold war 2 or WW3 is just plain crazy. Where did you come up with this shit?

You are the poster child for why so many Americans just absolutely refuse to reduce military spending. Did it ever occur to you what are alleged enemies are spending? Well, of course not. More, more troops or doomsday. Sigh.

I don't get this. They can't seriously be claiming that the wage gap has nothing to do with the actual market gap. Next up, equal pay for male models. You can't bitch about getting paid less when you're generating less revenue. Of course, like so many articles on these subjects the author completely fucking ignores the fact that the wage gap isn't actually a thing in almost every industry, but it's not like facts are the driving force here.

Also, this is going to happen. Not until 2022, but still, that's a fairly high minimum wage even if it is one of the more expensive states to live in.

I remember a few years ago in Texas - a father found a man raping his four (ish, give or take a year) year old daughter during a party or something on his own property. The father beat the man to death.
    No charges because obviously.

Unfortunately, this is the logical end to our economic policies over the last 40 years. During the 80's, we made an intentional transition from a manufacturing economy to a service economy. The obvious problem with that is service industry jobs don't typically pay a living wage, nor were they supposed to. Remember I talked about what does success look like? And in terms of education and employment? This is another symptom of the same disease. Until we, as a society, decide to actually bring jobs back to this country that pay a living wage, we're going to be stuck with the current employment model. While I believe that minimum wage should reflect the times, this is not going to solve the larger issue. If we have decent paying jobs in this country, we wouldn't have to worry about minimum wage as it would rise to keep pace with other jobs to attract workers. Since those jobs don't really exist much anymore, we have this, which is nothing more than a band aid on an amputation.

I remember that case, I think we even discussed it here at one point. If I remember correctly, the guy was a farm hand on the father's ranch.

Thats intense, and as it should be.

That guy who shot the trooper yesterday in Richmond? Look at this laundry list:

Court records show James Brown III had been charged with murder, intent to kill, aggravated battery with a firearm, failure to obey police, resisting a corrections officer, aggravated battery of a pregnant woman, aggravated battery of an unborn child, numerous drug charges, intimidation, domestic battery, felony possession of a weapon, among many driving charges.

Why was this guy even out on the street? Fuck.

The odds we actually get into a conventional fight with China are almost nil. Same goes for almost all the countries we use to justify having all these troops there, and there, and there. Also, we don't have to pull everything out, but do not fucking tell me we can't afford public health care and then tell me at the same time it's impossible make any military cuts because that would just be so damaging to our country. A lot more people die because our shitty health care system than because we don't have enough military.

The VA system is better than not having insurance. And you trust insurance companies to not fuck up it up although they already do nonstop, and you think we can't even though every other first world country can?

Has the insurance companies? And again, I ask, why can everyone else do this and we can't? Not that they do it perfectly, but they sure as hell do it better.

Such a senseless and cold-blooded killing. The cop was trying to shake his hand when he pulled his gun and shot him. Fucker was just straight-up evil. At least he'll make a great fertilizer.

Wrong. The #1 cause of bankruptcy in this country is medical bills and from people who already HAVE health insurance. I guess maybe you're one of those who have to get sick themselves and see it happen before you actually believe it.

Single payer would look a lot like expanded Medicare/Medicaid, which are pretty popular and work well when left alone.

The VA might be a shitshow, but it's hardly the model for 300 million people.

TVI, can you elaborate on that? What's the point of a job, if not to make enough money to stay alive? I'm not saying that you should be able to live like a king while working at McDonalds, but you should be able to pay your bills and feed yourself. You shouldn't have to work 80 hours a week just to have a rat-hole apartment and eat ramen noodles six days out of the week.

One thing to bear in mind is a fast food or other minimum wage job is meant as entry level for high school kids. Once you have experience, a track record of steady of employment, references, etc....you move on to a better job. Those jobs were never meant to support someone, let alone someone with a family.

Generally the only requirement for these jobs is that you are a reasonably functional human being. No special skills. Nothing but be human, show up, do your job, don't steal, don't insult the customers. That's it.

To many people confuse the above traits as being worth a great deal of money per hour.

Do your job well, be there when they need you, and move on. I just had to go through the whole dog and pony show again after being out of the job market for years. It took 3 jobs where I basically ate shit over a couple of years, but I knew it wasn't permanent. Each job was a step up the ladder until I was sitting at a desk again and being paid a silly amount of money for what I actually do.

If you really and truly "Bust your ass" at a minimum wage job for more then a few months and are over 21, you're not actually busting your ass. You're not even trying.

This doesn't make sense to me at all. If that were the case, fast food restaurants wouldn't be able to be open 9 months out of the year from the hours of 8am to 4pm. Fast food restaurants need workers who aren't in high school, always have and always will.
