Yeah, but then I can live with myself. I refuse to not vote. But Johnson-Weld is a respectable ticket. I think.

For exactly the reasons that toytoy lined out, I feel like more and more people may start exploring "what else is there?"

I wasn't sure if I should put this here, the Rant/Rave thread, or the Drunk thread, but it's a serious issue, so I'm putting it here.

I was talking to my dad today, and I asked him who he was going to vote for in the upcoming election.

    HE SAID TRUMP.

    Why? Because he's a "Republican."
As long as people keep on thinking that you can ONLY vote Democrat or Republican, we're going to be in situations like this.

I've been a big proponent of Texas's voter ID law (hate me all you want), but today I wish it wasn't in effect, because I'd take my dad's card and vote for someone else.

SEE, PEOPLE? THE VOTER ID LAW PREVENTS VOTER FRAUD.

I feel like Trump is banking on authoritarianism, which utterly collapses under scrutiny. He knows fuck-all about policy, and any attempt to debate Clinton or Sanders, who you know, actually have political experience, have extensive knowledge of how government works and can easily point out the flaws in a plan like "build a wall and make Mexico pay for it" or "let Saudi Arabia have nukes" would dismiss the fantasy that he could actually get anything done. Remember kids, some of the things he says about Muslims and Mexicans isn't too far away from outright facism. His appeal is the same of the bully that fucks with the kids nobody likes. If elected, the most important person on Earth would be the vice president. If you think the Republican establishment was obstructive to Obama....

Sanders is banking on the inequality, which stands up well to scrutiny (it is backed up by a fuck-ton of data, after all)and lends itself well to populism. Every time Sanders opens his mouth, 4000 comments follow on precisely how that plan would work or wouldn't work...the point is we're talking about it and debating it's merits, not a side issue. I like how so little is being made of Bernie being raised Jewish, or the small role religion is playing in this election. I think Sanders has done a fantastic job of sticking to the issues and not falling into the Fox News trap of outraged wharrrgarbl. For me, he's exactly like Jimmy Carter: he will do good work, that will be unraveled later.

Debating Sanders would be the turning point for his campaign and he knows it. Clinton would lose by engaging with him and Trump would get straight up embarrassed.

Clinton....honestly, what is she running on? She's playing this game by not confronting her opponents, which doesn't make her look good. I think one of the reasons she's not doing well (and Trump is) is because there's this air of inevitability to her campaign. Obama was really successful by playing the underdog card, Trump is doing the same thing. Bernie wouldn't be as successful as he is without it. She's approaching this like a coronation and it pisses people off. She's the most accomplished politician running...at a time when people despise established politicians. If this email thing gets any worse, she's toast.

I think Bernie is the best shot here, but I doubt his economic policies would get anywhere. Hillary is weirdly the most conservative candidate and will probably get things done, but it won't fix the biggest issues (healthcare, inequality, money in politics, polarization). Trump would get elected and immediately impeached, accomplishing nothing except somehow handing the presidency over to someone like Chris Christie.

An interesting sidenote is the fear someone like Trump inspires...Bush and Obama have continually expanded executive power and no one batted an eye. With the chance that we elect someone like Trump, there is legitimate regret that those powers weren't put in check when the expansion occurred.

During the evening news they showed a live shot of the anti-trump protestors and there weren't many of them by that time. The Trump rally was at 2, this was like 5. During the live shot I saw three clean cut, white kids, one with a man purse, taking photos of themselves in front of the cops. I'm sure they thought they were super cool and will brag to their friends about how awesome it was. The anti-Trump protests are just becoming a way for idiots who want to get on TV. These protests aren't accomplishing anything of substance. They're out there making noise and thats about it.

Best way to protest Trump is to vote and talk to other people civilly. Banging drums and shouting slogans isn't getting anything done. I have heard young voters are notoriously unreliable, so instead of voting I'm guessing they'll just keeping making noise instead of actually doing anything.

What you're not seeing is what goes on during live feeds. The news does not show people attending the rally walking the gauntlet of hateful, intolerant wretchedness of the anti-protestors crowding the entrance. People are entering with kids and they are screaming AT THE KIDS that their parents are evil, shouting threats of physical harm and waving Mexican fucking flags during the American election. What message does that send? If I saw Latin-Americans waving American flags that would look like you love your country and love living there. When it's another flag, you look like you prefer something else.

You'd swear the Trump campaign hires actors to drive them into his arms. That's not a new move.

This is the dean of Harvard Law getting heckled. Yes, Harvard: the first and most prestigious school in America. Could you be any more privileged than the honour to be a student there? What is HAPPENING?

    Holy shit!

Hillary may be indicted under RICO.

"James Comey and The FBI will present a recommendation to Loretta Lynch, Attorney General of the Department of Justice, that includes a cogent argument that the Clinton Foundation is an ongoing criminal enterprise..."

I don't think Obama is going to have too much love for Clinton these days now that it's come out that one of the reasons she was using her own, personal email server and Blackberry was so that she could consult with Sid Blumenthal on foreign affairs without anyone knowing. She had to do that because Obama explicitly said he was to not have any kind of security clearance and was not to be consulted or informed on any official situations, and yet the emails have shown that Clinton did do just that while in the position of Secretary of State. Specifically, she was getting emails to her personal account that contained NSA top secret information.

Not to derail, but let's see what the third party Libertarians are up to...

Libertarian candidate Austin Petersen, seen widely as Johnson's stiffest competition, said we don't need the government to build roads because "in the future, we’ll have jetpacks."

    Mmmmmk.

Writer of that article talks about how HuffPo deleted the article and disabled his access.

Here is a link to the archive of the HuffPo piece. My money is on absolutely NOTHING happening to her while still getting the nomination and running against Trump. Trump will destroy her in the election. Get the popcorn and candy ready because this show is gonna be a good one.

Opening weekend of shooting season in Chicago: 7 killed, 68 wounded.

Fun fact: An average ER visit for a shooting runs $55K. 68 wounded means approximately $3.7M in ER costs. I wonder how many of the victims had insurance? I also wonder how many of them refused to cooperate with the police?

    This world has gone nuts.

In the Bronx this weekend a 61 year old man beat a guy to death who was trying to rape his wife.

What did the police do? Shake his hand and say "Good job Citizen!"? Nope. Pin a medal on his chest? Nope.

They arrested him and charged him with manslaughter. Apparently protecting your family from a home invader is now a crime.

61-year-old Mamadou Diallo faces charges after allegedly beating man to death for attempting to rape wife in the Bronx
