What it really came down to is Trump thought once he got the nomination, the RNC would just fall into line and fund him. Hence, he fired his campaign manager - which is nothing more than an offering to the elites in the RNC. His infrastructure is poor, and if you dig around, you can find statements from staffers that said he really was looking to finish second or third. He was ill prepared for the spotlight that winning would bring. Ultimately, he has no idea as to what he is doing. Frankly, turning his campaign over to Paul Manafort is the worst thing he could do. He'll soon be wishing he had Lewendowsky back. The reality is Trump is clueless when it comes to big boy politics, and he's about to get his clock cleaned. Not that I'm a Hillary fan by any stretch, but as between the two, she's clearly the more qualified candidate and actually knows how things get done. It's going to get ugly. Yes, uglier than it is now.
Imagine if Trump had to declare bankruptcy after a failed presidential run.... I get the feeling Trump is running out of cards to play. His demonization of Clinton has stopped working and he doesn't talk about policy much and I think thats want people want to hear more of now instead of Crooked Hilarly etc etc etc.
Trump is rich. Really rich. At least his shell company is, personally he may be worth 50k. Anyway, he most likely is a billionaire from real estate alone. Dude owns a significant chunk of Manhattan where the average condo goes for $2 million now.He owns entire buildings, collects rents. His Palm Beach estate is like 10 acres of the third-ish primest ocean front real estate in the world; it is worth at least $100 million. His golf clubs are worth tens of millions. Then there is his "brand" (clothing, TV) which according to Forbes makes him around $30 million a year. However, I believe he is not *liquid* relatively high. So he might have pissed through his personal war chest a while ago. I think he's waiting out the GOP to start picking up the tab. "IT's me or no one guys, wanna see the mess convention brings?" That's his M.O. anyway, financial blackmail. Mar-O-Lago in PB: Spoiler
So he has a bunch of non liquid assets. I guess he could start selling those off to help his run, but that would be humiliating and his business partners might be kind of pissed. He could also simply shuffle cash from his businesses into the campaign but I imagine that might not go over well either. So cash on hand, how much cash does he have access to now. If he was to run to the ATM, how much could he withdraw now.
Good news! This will surely reduce gun violence in Chicago! An alderman is introducing a resolution today which will ban automatic weapons and semi-automatic weapons. Automatic weapons are already banned and Chicago has a strict ban on "Assault rifles" that already bans just about every semi-auto manufactured. So basically it's going to be a Double Secret Probation Ban. That'll help.
Happened in 2008 too: http://www.politico.com/blogs/polit...n-out-the-lights-but-gop-keeps-talking-010724 This is stupid. Elected officials have a voice, clout. This is navel gazing, sanctimonious stunts college kids do.
Election year stunts for sure. Dems are really really hoping for some gay marriage cultural watershed moment here with gun control. I don't see it going as well.
This isn't obstructionism. At best it is civil disobedience. At worst it is a temper tantrum. Taking the high ground it is not. They should have went to whatever news source who would have them, start naming names and raise holy living hell. Apparently Paul Ryan barred the C-Span cameras. That is monumentally stupid from a strategy standpoint. This is your Congress in some kind of action, finally, even if it is a ridiculous gesture. Depending on the polls, 80-90% of Americans want some kind of reform in gun sales/background checks. We have the right to watch this unfold. It is integral to our process. To bar the cameras is some straight up undermining, fascist shit. Counterpoint: Who the fuck watches C-Span? Edit: Thinking more about the reasoning they'd do this. A collegian style sit-in is the option they were left with? Goes to show you how broken our system has been if this is the best option for lawkmakers to voice an opinion, to demand action.
Yes, thanks, LBJ. Thanks to him, a 25 year old immigrant woman that couldn't speak English very well was able to feed her two children after their shitpoke father ran out on them. If it wasn't for government assistance, my younger brother and I would have grown up homeless. And who knows what the fuck would have happened to me then. I would have been much more statistically likely to be either an addict, in prison, or both. That I'm pretty solidly middle class isn't possible if it wasn't for my mom being on the government dole, as some of you so derisively put it. It bothers me that the only stories you people are interested in listening to are the microscopic number of people who defraud welfare, and not stories like mine. Every person I've seen on the right says "Get a real job, slacker!" For the urban poor, they can only get shitty fast food or retail jobs. Take your pick of reasons. Inner-city schools are basically prisons. Who's going to be able to be a good and present parent while working multiple jobs? But they can't be too successful either, because their benefits will be cut off. The thing that bothers me the most is the conservative mindset of "I got mine. You're on your own.", while conveniently ignoring the fact that if you aren't white, shit is harder for you on your own. When presented with evidence to the contrary, they smugly say, "I did it. Why can't you?" Being poor is fucking humiliating. Who wants to hang out with the kid who wears the same clothes multiple days in a row? Who wants to date a person with children from a previous relationship? How do you find the time to date when you're working multiple jobs anyway? It's hard for me to take criticism of welfare seriously from a bunch of middle to upper class white guys that have never needed public assistance.
The argument that only upper class white guys can be successful is just as lazy and inane as the one you are ranting against.
Well, obviously, but that wasn't the argument I was making. I wouldn't listen to criticism of the Seahawks if given to me from a Mongolian who had never watched a game of football.
Keep it classy, Tennessee. http://www.rawstory.com/2016/06/mak...boycott-over-trump-inspired-racist-billboard/
Any of you guys have two cents on this upcoming "Brexit" refferendum in the UK? It's really looking like "leave" is going to win and piss off super-rich celebrities something fierce.
When I first saw that, I was like, "Snopes, here I come. That can't be real." The sad part is, that it is real. The good news is that Rick Tyler also ran for US Senate in 2014 and only managed to get 0.4% of the vote. Hopefully, that percentage is made up of his mom, wife and 11 people that thought they were voting for Steven Tyler.
As far as I can tell, the responses on both sides have been more emotional than practical. Germany is the de-facto leader of the EU, which I get why some Brits would take issue with plus the more powerful members have to constantly pick up the slack for the weaker and more irresponsible members. On the other side, it's a bit of a blow to European diplomacy for the UK to leave.
It's gone already. Big news here in Nashville. Most people are in agreement that it was quite racist, although they did find one old white dude to say he didn't think it was racist and that those who saw it that way were "just trying to stir up trouble."
Just for those who might not know, the bill that the Republicans are using to break up the sit-in is a resolution to overrule the Department of Labor's fiduciary rule to require financial advisers to act in their client's best interest. The financial adviser industry has been heavily lobbying Congress to get this rule overturned. I'm not arguing that the gun control issue is not deserving of the attention its getting, but the fact that we aren't storming Capitol Hill over these types of issues, as well, is aggravating.
