In case anyone missed it: While everyone else was watching Rio, Milwaukee decided they liked fires i just can't fathom this. Either there is more to the story of than just "cop shoots armed man after he refuses to drop weapon," or that town has some serious pent up rage. Probably from watching the packers all these years.
Black cop shoots black guy who won't drop a gun, and it's in probably the worst part of the city. From the reports I've seen, it's an angry black mob looking to go beat up some white people. Wtf. There's no rationale here, it's just people looking for an excuse to go raise some hell.
It is the worst part of the city. A week and a half ago some thugs from that part of town ransacked my apartment while I was at work. They stole my computer, tv, tablet, and anything else of value they could find. Some witnesses saw them loading all of my stuff into a van and despite identifying the perps the cops haven't done jack shit. There's your endlessly hounded victims for you. I wonder if some thug robbed my stuff from the original thug while all these riots were going on. I wonder if they tweeted "Get the white people!" from my tablet. There's been several gang related murders recently. Not a peep. 77% of the homicide victims in Milwaukee this year have been black. My line lead recently had to take time off work to attend a funeral for one of the victims of these gangland slayings. No shit. And nobody cares. Then one of these pieces of shit gets taken out while trying to gun down a cop and everyone loses their minds. I don't think there has been a protest in American history that could match this for duration and insanity. My roommate's cousin and uncle are cops who quit recently because they're tired of being smeared over BLM. I disagree with their decision, but who I am to tell them they should put up with this never ending bullshit?
Not active shooter, not even shots fired. I wish they would find, arrest and prosecute whatever idiot created the situation.
It may have been Usain Bolt fans celebrating his victory by cheering and clapping. Seriously. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry...gunfire_us_57b1bdaae4b007c36e4f38f7?section=&
You might have heard that during the "Protest" last night one of the participants was shot by other protesters and how he had to evacuated in an armored car. The guy shot wasn't black. I'll bet he's rethinking his allegiances right about now. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...t-riots-following-death-man-shot-officer.html EDIT: A guy that routinely provides live streams for riots like this is pulling out due to "Escalating racial tensions" and says that it feels much like Ferguson a couple years ago, but much more heated. Hopefully nothiefsallowed will be continuing live streams.
Unlocked: Victim Status This whole thing is kind of sad really. Black people can be just as racist, bigoted and hateful as white people. As usual, the media only shows the dregs from both sides.....why though? Looking at this from a detached and pragmatic point of view, is there really any way to see the race issue as anything other than intractable at this point? I've seen the BLM demands and it doesn't appear that society will come anywhere close to meeting those demands, so what next?
The image below was taken at some vigil thing for the "victim" (ha!) of the police shooting. The dude was placing candles on the ground where his friend was shot. That girl on the far right double fisting two bottles of booze really thinks this is a good look for the photographer? Never mind that well-printed revolver in her waistband she's gonna have a tough time getting out of, uhm, concealment? if she needs to. Spoiler: kinda large image I'm not sure whether this is funny, or it angers me.
Things are getting really testy already. Live stream: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/ex414...dium=visit-channel&utm_campaign=notifications EDIT: Stream is no longer live. No streams out of Milwaukee tonight and I've seen a couple reports of cable & wifi being turned off. Makes sense I guess, don't give the rioters an audience and they may not riot.
Few things also from a perspective in Milwaukee. Interestingly the protestor being shot has not been reported at all here. The coverage of it, or any mention, has been from national publications, nothing from the local press. Then again, Milwaukee's paper is notoriously terrible, so I wouldn't be shocked by that. As has been covered, this is pretty justified, open and shut, as far as these sort of incidents go. A career piece of shit with a long rap sheet who most recently got off on a murder charge after threatening a witness into recanting testimony. Ran from a traffic stop, with a stolen gun and tons of ammo, disobeying police orders while holding a gun. Speaking to one of my friends, who is African American, and has been very passionate but reasonable about the BLM movement, he even said that it was ridiculous that people were made about it, in light of more questionable acts. That being said, Milwaukee has been boiling towards this for a LONG time. Its a severely segregated city, even more so than Chicago by certain studies, and the more "urban" areas of the city have been degrading quickly. The area where this all occurred used to be quite nice and middle class. Crime is rapidly on the rise and its taking over a lot of surrounding areas. My mom grew up in a not great part of the city on the south side, she was a minority as a Caucasian for most of her youth, and even she wont go near a lot of places anymore, takes a lot to rattle her. There is a lot of unrest and they were just waiting for a reason. To Clutch's question about the Sheriff's department, I think it depends on the scope of the disturbance as to where they would step in and help MPD. This is all a product of a city's incompetent government for many years. Its no surprised that Milwaukee Public Schools are one of the worst in the country. Last time I heard, the HS graduation rate is right around 50%, which is well below even Chicago. But currently the most pressing issue in Milwaukee politics is a $200MM streetcar project. For a city where people drive EVERYWHERE. The city is a fucking mess, even with tons of population and money flowing into downtown, but thats flight from the suburbs, not new industry, and is definitely not helping areas such as Sherman Park.
Trump is going to be in Milwaukee today. I think we can pretty safely say this is a very bad idea. All the previous anti-Trump violence has prominently featured supporters of the Revolutionary Communist Party and I've seen a number of revcom signs in the Milwaukee riots the past few days. They're already there so this gives them a 2 for 1.
A serious question (in the serious thread, of course): Does anyone else feel like a full court press is currently going on in the media to try to drum up sympathy and support to get involved in the Syrian conflict?
God I don't miss having cable tv. I've not noticed much more online than when the migrant crisis was first gaining traction. Maybe that ambulance baby photo. The reaction was so negative in the first place it'd be hard for, presumably Clinton, to sell now.
Of course the media is going to exploit that image for views/hits/ratings, but the public reaction to that photo is baffling to me. So NOW we are concerned about the innocent people dying in this conflict that has been going on for 5 years? So before this photo came out, we all thought they were fighting with marshmallow guns? Or maybe it was just a big pillow fight? How did we not understand that there have been innocent men, women, children, old people, dogs, parakeets and pet turtles dying for 5 goddamn years? Yes, that photo is poignant and touching. That it took this particular photo to inspire international outrage and indignation is absurd.
Kind of like how so many voters were turning away from Hillary because they found out she was manipulating the media, and then a couple more weeks of the media telling them who to vote for and they switched back. Regarding the BLM in Milwaukee; got a ride from a black Uber driver yesterday who went on a long rant about what a disgrace they are. Apparently this guy worked in social services for 23 years and was finally so disgusted with the people who came in he switched jobs. Does it get much more sad than someone showing up for food stamps and bragging about what a player they are? He said the only thing that kept him going was the occasional success stories. One was an ex-felon who had been in prison for 12 years and now owns a home he's fully paid off. See, it actually is possible if you go out and give a shit instead of ranting about how the system cheated you. There's something like 300,000 black people in Milwaukee area, and the number of protesters was only like 200. I'm not sure they represent anyone really, and based on my experience here even the black community is sick of their shit. How many times have the media given these guys a mouth piece?
Ryan Holiday is what he is, but he just wrote a really good piece with 49 reasons why you shouldn't vote for Trump.
