Apparently, it's exactly what she meant to say. A tweet from today: ✔@HillaryClinton Trump on equal pay: "Do as good a job" as men.
It won't be a landslide for Clinton, though the press will call it that no matter what, and we'll endure 4-8 more gridlock and acrimony. We will not be having any great political self reflections any time soon.
Isn't it a little dishonest to not show the entire tweet on your part, so that you get the context? It came in a string of tweets about how trump treats women. Trump on equal pay: "Do as good a job" as men. Abortion? Should be "punished." Pregnancy? An "inconvenience." Wives working? "Dangerous."
Since I was addressing one particular point, no. As far as the abortion stance. Do you remember the question he was asked? "If abortion was illegal, should a woman be punished for having an abortion?" How the hell do you answer that without it being turned on you? Trump answered "If it were illegal? Then yes, she should be punished."
Chris Matthews: Do you believe in punishment for abortion? Yes or no, as a principle. Donald Trump: The answer is that there has to be some form of punishment. CM: For the woman? DT: Yeah, there has to be some form. Source And isn't the problem with the "if they do as good a job as men" the implicit sexism? That men are always better than women and women have to prove themselves to be equal? Why not just say the following when asked if he will pay women as much as men: Yes.
Here's the take on that interview by numerous liberal news sources: "Donald Trump said women who undergo abortions should be punished if the procedure is made illegal." NPR http://www.npr.org/2016/03/30/47244...hing-women-who-have-abortions-then-backtracks "Donald Trump scrambled to clarify his position on abortion Wednesday after he said women who undergo the procedure should face "some form of punishment" should the practice be outlawed." CNN http://www.cnn.com/2016/03/30/politics/donald-trump-abortion-town-hall/ "Donald Trump believes that there should be punishment for women who undergo abortions if the procedure was outlawed, but indicated he has yet to determine what that punishment should be." MSNBC, who aired the interview. http://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/trump-backs-abortion-ban-calls-punishment-women Make of that what you will.
Guys, I don't know why you're splitting hairs on this one for this length of time. There are so many facets to each candidate and this one topic should not be the fulcrum that your teeter-totter pivots on. Clinton: Is pro choice, with limitations placed on when the procedure can be accessed. Trump: Is probably pro choice when the cameras or off but must pander to a crazy right-wing base that believes abortion doctors should be blown up, so he's trying to answer the questions posed to him in a way that satisfies his base but also doesn't really clarify anything. My own opinion: even if abortion is made illegal (which it 100% should not be), those who seek it should not be punished, because they've already been put through twelve kinds of hell as it is. First an unwanted pregnancy, then no legal options to turn to, then the money and risk of 1) travelling to a foreign country for one or 2) having some back door kook cut up your insides for cash...yeah. You've already been punished enough, you whore who had sex without a condom, you.
I don't think we're in danger of Roe v Wade being overturned anytime in the near future. It's just a bogey man that the left rolls out every election and tries to make a big deal to frighten their base, the same as the right rolls out the 2nd Amendment and uses it to frighten their base.
Except that Mike Pence, you know, the guy currently running for VP has gone on record as saying "We’ll see Roe vs. Wade consigned to the ash heap of history where it belongs.” And Trump has also said that while he's not saying for sure that he'll look to have it overturned, any Supreme Court nominations he appoints will need to be Pro-Life.
It goes both ways. "The Supreme Court is wrong on the Second Amendment. And I am going to make that case every chance I get.” ~ Hillary Clinton Do I believe she's going to be able to outlaw guns? Not a chance.
I've kinda had it with Johnson. Just don't feel that he's qualified, prepared, and some of his views are far too extreme. Not that a vote for him would make a difference, it would be more me saying "I'm giving this person my vote regardless of the outcome because people died for me right to use it, so I'm using it where I'm comfortable." I'm just not comfortable with him anymore. He's not ready by a long shot. That leaves Clinton. Because trump makes me aggressively angry. I'm so over this election.
You live in Texas - at this point in history, it doesn't matter who you vote for. The same goes for California, just the other way.
El Cajon is going to release video of the shooting this afternoon and they are advising all businesses to close. Too little, too late. BLM has moved on to another martyr. Just up the road in Pasadena this morning a man armed with a knife and a fire extinguisher died after a struggle with police. There are already protests and angry, fact filled tweets flying. "Los Angeles residents react to news of Reginald Thomas killed by police. The father of 8 called police for assistance this morning. They allegedly responded to his call and killed him."
The big difference [in terms of getting rid of both or either of them] is that firearm ownership is protected by the 2nd amendment, while abortion rights are not. The degree of difficulty in getting firearms outlawed is much higher than getting abortion outlawed.
While true, I believe that if it ever came to outlawing firearms you would never get them back, but if abortion was outlawed it would be a lot easier to get that made legal again.
Some leaked audio from a Hillary fundraiser. I actually like the way she spoke about Bernie's supporters. Called them out for what they are. Unfortunately, its not anything you will ever hear her say on TV.
Technically, you are correct. But I can't honestly see abortion being outlawed without the country imploding. Most of my friends are right leaning (I know y'all are shocked) and while as a personal choice they may be pro-life, I don't know a single person who is pro-life as law. Maybe I don't hang around Southern Baptist churches often enough, but I just can't see the anti-abortion crowd as being strong enough to actually dictate law.
You're kidding right? Paging Audreymonroe to the Reproductive Freedom Phone Whose Funding is About to Be Cut Here is an article from June: 14 states have passed laws this year making it harder to get an abortion The Supreme Court did reaffirm abortion rights when striking down Texas laws this year that effectively outlawed abortion for many women in the state. However, that was a 5-3 vote, and this issue isn't going anywhere as evidenced by the Pence's comments earlier in this thread. People are working very hard to restrict reproductive freedom of women in conservative states. I do find it interesting though what the GOP concerns itself in regard to the public's health though. Here is a bit from their policy platform: "Pornography, with its harmful effects, especially on children, has become a public health crisis that is destroying the lives of millions. We encourage states to continue to fight this public menace and pledge our commitment to children’s safety and well-being." Pair that with a selection from their presidential nominee's IMDB page: Playboy Video Centerfold: Playmate 2000 Bernaola Twins
From your very first link: "Nine states introduced measures to ban all or most abortions. Only one, Oklahoma, made it to the governor's desk. The governor vetoed it." 9 states out of 50. They all said "Hell no." I'm not going to even bother after that.
