This is an area that has a lot of ISIS sympathisers. The people living there will absolutely think twice after seeing that explosion. It is like back in 2002 when the US deployed Daisy Cutters on Taliban troop movements their morale never recovered.
Even though MOAB is 20 tons of TNT and is the "largest non-nuke" used, it's still not comparable to even the relatively tiny nuke used on Hiroshima, which was 15,000 tons (KT).
In addition, modern nukes measure in the megatons and make the original bombs dropped on Japan look like fire crackers.
I saw a graphic that compared the blast radius impact of the Hiroshima bomb to a modern nuke, and the two were overlaid on part Manhattan. Maybe the graphic should overlay the MOAB vs. modern nuke on Afghanistan for more propaganda impact.
That was the first thing that popped into my head as well. I told my mother in law I doubt they were going for a body count with this thing but more as a message to ISIS and NK about what the US is and is not willing to do. Since our president has a flair for the dramatic, I'm looking at memorial day and july 4th as two likely dates when north korea might taste the MOAB.
Exactly. My understanding is that was the intent all along... fuck up all the caves and tunnels along the Pakistan border.
Yep, not a weird thought at all. Definitely the intent. This bomb "digs" way more than others. The damage assessment will take awhile cause a lot of the targets are likely under literal mountains of rubble.
And what better way to celebrate than invading yet another country and bombing it. I hear if you blow up every country on earth you get a free drink at SkyBar. Maybe you want to wait until they try and fire one of their Atari-guided glorified water heaters at Guam. Maybe they'll hit the Pacific Ocean this time. If they remember to aim in the correct fucking direction. Go ahead and beat up the special ed kids. Because the rest of us are just OH SO worried about them. Let's not forget how soon they landed a man on the Sun (92,700,000 miles in 36 hours). MOAB is definetly going to scare the shit out of a lot of people because they've never witnessed weaponry like that over there before. Was this a for-sure target hit? If there are cave systems, besides its "dig" ability like the bunker buster it's sheer concussion tremor would also shake them shut-- We're probably not exactly talking about the Chunnel here-- It could have made a mass grave in one second flat that nobody will know the true tally of. Get the Blue Angels to drop the next ones.
Ask Japan and South Korea how not worried they are about baby fat man. Besides that, we have a lot of troops on military installations in both of those countries.
Here's a press conference by Dr. Dao's attorney (the United Airlines viral video thing): Interesting.
That is a hell of an opening shot not only to United, but to all airlines. If that doesn't scream "you better settle with us for big stupid money or we're going to fuck your business up", I don't know what does.
Stay classy Huffpo. White men shouldn't be allowed to vote. Ok, I certainly don't think racism towards whites is as worrisome as racism towards minorities, but this overt racism and sexism still shouldn't be ok. I see racism towards whites about 50x the amount of time I see it towards (insert minority) and I certainly can't think of a mainstream publication that would be putting out articles about how black people shouldn't vote. To be clear, it's not that I'm 'triggered' by this, but I just don't get how people pump this out and are like "Wazza problem!?" Regarding North Korea, it's getting hard to determine what exactly China's stance is in all of this. It seems like one day they're moving away from supporting NK and then the next they are barking at the US. As usual it seems like I get a completely different story on this depending on the outlet.
He's a legendary ambulance chaser here in Chicago that has gotten rich off it. Im sure his eyes lit up with glee when he saw the video.
It's hard to get an perspective on this without a sense of scale or the video running long enough to continue showing the aftermath, but dang. That looks like a pretty f-ing big impact.
Interesting development....Air China is suspending flights between Beijing and Pyongyang citing poor sales.
