Yea, the whole going easy on Iran thing seems to be at an end since Trump met with the Saudis. I get the regional conflict with Iran, mostly the Iran vs. Saudi thing. What I don't get is why Iran is such a threat to the US. When we were in Iraq, I got it, they used every opportunity to hurt Americans they could, now that we're mostly out, I guess need to read more about the current state of the conflict. Its like the Middle East Cold War (edited: Switched threads, thought this made more sense over here)
What is the better course of action there though? This In Indiana so the people walking out also had four years prior to this election that they probably felt he did a poor job in office. I can't find it right now but they referenced this in a statement they released. From what I read the school was informed of their plans also, not that I think it makes much of a difference either way. If it's their one opportunity to display their displeasure with him and they did it in a way that didn't interrupt everyone else's graduation then what's the issue?
NBC is saying at least 20 fatalities and over a hundred wounded. Facebook and Twitter are both amazing and awful right now.
Manchester PD just tweeted 19 confirmed dead with another 50 injured and that they are treating it as a terrorist attack.
There's screenshots from some terrorist dude on twitter earlier today apparently reminding the U.K. that they were gonna bomb the arena. It's sad that they're using social media as basically a recruiting platform like that, and also that we have yet to find a consistent way to stop them.
I'm not blaming them, I'm just saying it's sad. Like someone is robbing a bank in front of you and you're helpless to stop them.
I just don't think 100 or so college kids not listening to the VP speak warrants a discussion. I left during my commencement speech also because my family had lunch reservations. I'm glad it didn't make national news.
I totally agree. The 24 hour news cycle combined with the fanatical desire to prove the "other side" wrong is making mountains out of petty shit. The big thing right now? Melania slapped Donald's hand away. Really? WHO FUCKING CARES! "It's a sign that his impending impeachment has reached his inner circles and family..." Where's the coverage on the FCC removing Title 2 from ISP's? Or the 100 other more important (yet less titillating) stories that really should be covered?
To be fair that was the second highest thing on my radar (after Trump's ongoing up-fuckery) when it comes to recent news. There was a clear (and possibly illegal given that it used names and addresses of citizens without permission) bot operation to flood the FCC website with anti-net neutrality comments; Ajait Pai basically came out and said he didn't care what the public said, he was going to remove net neutrality anyway; there was a Heritage Foundation (?) video that Pai participated in outlining his rationale that was just total Randian horseshit.
Not that you don't already know this, but the ISPs are also the primary owners of many of the major television purveyors in this country and they all overwhelmingly support the repeal of Title 2, so why would they report on it? Again, not that it's right, but more that it's in their own best interest to keep the masses uninformed about it. Hence why they're distracting people with bullshit stories like the Melania thing.
If every single country in the middle east attacked Israel with everything that had, all at once, Israel would hand every single one of them their ass without breaking a sweat. Maybe it's time that shitty little country dealt with their own fucking problems.
22 dead, 59 injured as of this morning. Just like the Belgium attack, they knew not to bother with security and just hit people where they were still vulnerable: the lobby. This is why those TSA logjams last year were terrifying to me, just exit the taxi, walk into the crowd, boom. We really need to adopt the Israeli model, even if it means paying for actual, trained professionals manning the posts.
It should have, thats a complete outrage. I hope the lunch was worth it, asshole. But I get your point. Maybe it shouldnt be. Its probably filler more than anything.
http://pulsegulfcoast.com/2017/05/t...or-landrieus-address-on-confederate-monuments This is the speech the mayor of New Orleans gave when the Confederate monuments were moved. Powerful stuff.
Why is Pence entitled to an audience? He's a despicable shitbag. I'd walk out of commencement speech given by him as well. Hell, I'm surprised nobody heckled him. Is heckling still a thing? Or was that auditorium Pence's personal Safe Space and no heckling allowed?
The school invited him to give the graduation commencement, he didnt just show up and start talking. I'd say that entitles him to an audience. If you knew he was going and didnt agree with him, why go to the commencement? Its purely ceremonial and not a requirement for graduation. Again, its the Vice President of the US, you'd think a little decorum is in order. Id make the same argument for Joe Biden. And thats not even what "safe space" means.
I mean, I'm from South Bend and even after watching the video http://wgntv.com/2017/05/21/graduates-walk-out-on-pence-at-notre-dame-commencement/ I'm pretty meh towards it. Without context, it looks like a group of friends ditching early to grab dinner/drinks. Not quite enough people for the grand political statement they were going for. But then, I find most Notre Dame people to be spoiled, over privileged, condescending cocksuckers. So what do I know?
Unless someone commits a felony, I think it's safe to forego any and all fuck-giving about what college students are up to. Between New Orleans, Manchester, and Mar-A-Lago, there are literally dozens of other topics more fascinating to discuss. I wouldn't want to be around the VP simply because of the additional security hassle, so.... I will say that college students paying $30k/year are customers and the customer is always right. This skins the universities of a lot of rigor, the ability to say "fuck off, kid", and it promotes coddling. The worst case for those schools is not being sensitive enough to student's needs, and for the price they pay I think it's fair the school treat them well when they are attending. I kept up with one of my professors and he gets pressured to giving away grades, making classes easier, and coddling minority students (especially the foreign ones) which is despicable, but a symptom of the system. My undergrad got barely $5k/year from me, and at that price I understood why the dorms were shit, the food was scarcely edible and the facilities were on par with my high school...and the professors took no shit because if I fucked off, it wasn't the equivalent to someone's full time salary. But yeah, skip the fucking ceremony.
