Folks are at work now and in shock. many knew people there, one of my friends knows of 3 of her friends that were shot and 4 that are missing. Another friend, his daughter was in the truck caught on video being commandeered to load bodies into. Everyone in the office is in shock, that's the only way to put it.
I'm shocked by the sheer scale of it all. With an automatic weapon, to kill and injure that many people (though obviously not all injuries came from bullets), do you know how many rounds had to fly? How much he had to have loaded and prepared? The crime scene must be MASSIVE!
Apparently the shooter's father was a bank robber, described as a psychopath. Quite a few people have had to leave work here. I guess all our employees are safe and accounted for, 5 employees were at the concert, but not injured.
The girl that I used to tour with played the festival a few nights before. There’s a lot of “friends of friends” that we’re there, but nobody I know personally that was there last night. But all the Nashville musicians are pretty shocked by it. What a fucked up world it is, sometimes.
In terms of places damned near impossible to secure, a Vegas hotel room has to be up there, right? Nevada has some of the nation's most lax gun laws. Millions of people patrol the strip. This feels pretty damned difficult to prevent from happening. God, I'm just sick. 500 people.
According to witnesses the shooting went on for at least 5 minutes. Full auto. The whole thing makes no sense. He was in that room since Thursday, it was a 3 day event and he waited until the final act before opening fire. On the plus side, if there is one, this is the line of people wanting to donate blood:
Yes, pretty difficult. However, he was there for so long and brought so many weapons into his hotel room. I wouldn't be surprised to see "no guns" and x-ray machine policies implemented at some hotels, new "see something / say something" training for hotel employees, and things like that.
I kind of doubt a "no guns" policy in Vegas will ever work well: too many people carrying immense amounts of cash or it's equivalent around. The private security forces alone would throw a wrinkle in that plan. Does anyone have any indication as to how many shots were fired?
Agree, but I didn't mean all of Vegas. I just meant some hotels. I feel like, since the hotels are private spaces, that some will do some "No Guns" signs and go from there. I could be wrong.
Just a guess here, but using a bump stock on an AR-15 converts it to 900 rounds per minute. Adjusting that down to say 400-500 rpm to include reloading, and possibly changing out guns because they are saying .308 ammo was also used, and given the approximate 5 minutes of attack....2000-2500 rounds doesn't seem out of the question.
That’s roughly what The Husband and I mathed out earlier. The amount of ammunition he was carrying is bananas.
