Maybe they found a Russian helicopter with a grappling hook at the airport? Speaking of things that don't make sense...the security guard that got shot in the leg. The sheriff said he estimated 200 rounds expended into the hallway. How do you fire that many rounds on full auto, at that close range, at however many people....and only one person gets shot in the leg? Then again, it's possible they are spreading dis-info in the hopes of lulling someone into a false sense of security. It has happened before.
Apparently the conspiracy theory on 4chan right now is that he was a covert CIA agent making an undercover arms deal to terrorists that went sour. They killed him and the shot up the crowd on the spot. The FBI is covering it up and pinning it on him...
Hotel rooms in Vegas are pretty fucking soundproof, for many obvious reasons, which usually means pretty beefy structure, like concrete, instead of drywall and studs. That could go a long way for protection, I'm thinking. (At least for the big, new hotels.)
Full auto firing requires training to avoid firing high. Chances are the shooter didn't have that training or didn't care. If the security guard hit the deck, it's entirely possible that 199 rounds went sailing overhead. Come to think of it, I recall even police shooters are notoriously inaccurate. Snipers must remain on target for extended periods of time to have any chance of accuracy. Granted 0 for 200 seems bad, but after firing even a few dozen rounds, your accuracy declines quickly.
Latest report is that he also had a room booked overlooking Lollapalooza in Chicago a few months back. http://www.fox29.com/news/tmz-steph...g-lollapalooza-2-months-before-vegas-massacre
I know it's just a graphic, so the scale may not be exact, but a lot of these walls look beefier than standard. And, it appears there was a stairwell across from his room. Those are typically concrete and more fire resistant, so maybe the security guard was there.
It seems that this guy's "motive" was to simply play GTA in real life. Some asshole so bored and disgusted by society he just wanted to leave burning the world down. This isn't somebody who "snapped". He treated this seemingly like it was his lifelong passion.
They will spend many, many hours in the months to come trying to piece together his life and patterns. Part of it is to make sure he acted alone, and there aren't more criminals, but also to learn how to possibly prevent something like this again, and to give the victim's and their families some resolution. It wouldn't surprise me if they end up uncovering that he's killed somebody before and gotten away with it. All the other hotel rooms for other events, and the apparent long time planning and building for this makes me think he got some kind of sick thrill. And, this was not the first time, in some way.
Watch this fucker have a brain tumor like the UT tower asshole. Those things mess with your behavior in a crazy way. Every single part of my brain was affected even though mine was under my cerebellum. Wouldn’t surprise me if he had one in the front of his brain, those lobes control behavior.
Maybe, maybe not. It seems like if there was enough of his brain left, they should know by now. "The coroner's office in Las Vegas would not release details of its autopsy on Paddock. Some behavioral experts have wondered whether the 64-year-old Paddock suffered from some kind of brain abnormality or had a terminal illness that prompted him to lash out."
It says something about modern society, Charles Whitman. Not his issues, but his rampage killed a quarter of what Paddock did. And it's folklore. Made into movies. Talked about for years. Re-created and satirized by Hollywood. Whitman was considered one of the great boogeyman of the 20th century. That shit would barely hit the front page today, because the new cool thing is for maniacs who are checking out to keep upping the bodycount ante: let's see if I can kill more than the last guy, in a more inhumane way. Thank god Paddock wasn't rich enough to buy a loose nuke.
On an unrelated note. It will be interesting to see what Fox News does with this Harvey Weinstein story. It's basically a repeat of Roger Ailes and Bill O'Reilly so the cognitive dissonance that is about to occur should be impressive to behold.
The same could be said for CNN, MSNBC and the like. Will they try to kill, gut and wear Weinstein like a skin suit or are they going to pull punches?
The whole Dan Bilzarian thing is pretty funny to watch at least. If you aren’t familiar with the self proclaimed “king of Instagram,” he’s a trust fund dude who got kicked out of SEAL training, now he gambles in Vegas and plays SEAL dress up with guns. He originally posted a video of him running away from the shooter like any logical person, but of course there was fallout because he acted like a hardass and everyone was saying he was supposed to be running to help. Now video is out showing him begging a cop for a gun to go get the shooter. “Let me show you my creds” is gonna be the new “I’m a bartender in the industry.”
Accuracy declines significantly after the first round let alone after a few or a few dozen; google bullet to kill ratios and you'll see the military isn't all that accurate either. There are of course extenuating circumstances, but even factoring in belt fed weapons, supressive area fire, etc your average soldier isn't as accurate as you'd like them to be. That was the primary reason for the change to three round burst instead of full auto for military rifles.
That’s Dan Bilzerian for you. How’s he going to look tough without the camera on? He went around asking cops for a gun to do... what? The shooter was from a concealed, elevated position a quarter mile away. Returning fire from an open position is a marvelous idea. I guess he got the message when he eventually ran away. To his credit, there are some reports that he helped get people to safety. He should just stick to what he’s good at: staging Instagram photos and throwing strippers off his roof.
It actually made me curious about how his criminal record impacted his ability to carry weapons. I know he's been arrested multiple times, and you'd think if he returned to the scene he would have a weapon on him. Maybe his guns belong to someone else and he just poses with them? I'm not sure about the Nevada laws, if criminals are allowed to handle firearms but not own them.
