It could be that they are feeling some sort of validation now... they very well may have tried to tell friends and family and been told "it's all in your head", and this is there way of saying, "see, it is a problem, and it happened to me/us".

Regardless, it happened... no reason to not speak about it now. As much as I like Louis, and respect him for how he has handled himself since it came into the public arena, he still did it and has to own it.

I just wish reporting would be less sensationalist... they are mostly covering it in a juicy, tabloid manner, rather than being at all fair about it, as ToyToy points out.

That's why I keep saying "If" in my posts. I wouldn't know who this guy was is if he walked up and pissed on my leg. The apology sounds like someone who is truly sorry, but who knows who wrote it?

As far as why women are bringing it up now if he apologized to them...it's a cut throat business. Any PR is good PR and since sexual harassment in Hollywood is big right now and guaranteed some ink...this gets their name out there..

I'm not saying that's the case by any means, but we're on the outside looking in and our only view is the view the media gives us.

If he legitimately apologized to the women he harmed and is actually remorseful, good for him.

If the women bringing up his actions are refusing to accept his apology, that's their choice too. It's not right or wrong in my eyes, sometimes you just can't forgive someone. I get that.

All I know is that from the latest round of accusations, he didn't run and hide. He owned up to it and apologized instead of adding a caveat of why. He simply said "I did it and I shouldn't have."

I've been a huge fan of his for years, and followed his blogs and other public writings. He had (since been taken down) some amazing writing that were his personal notes from when he went on a USO tour, and it turned out that he's a hell of an amateur photographer.

He's a seriously good writer, and has set up his own production company and sold his own show tickets and plays from his own website... his (successful) attempt at undermining ticket scalpers.

I bought all episodes of his last play (Horace and Pete's), which is really worth checking out (won a Peabody for it). He wrote all of it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horace_and_Pete

I say that only to say that this apology is 100% in his style, and reflects everything that I, a long-time fan, have seen of him in documentaries and interviews.

    It rings true.

Yeah, the cynic in me thinks the same. Might not be true, or fair, but it's a fucking horrendous industry, from the Weinsteins down to the gaffers... you can't just say that cutthroat, predatory behaviour happens only at the top... they're just the (ironically) low hanging fruit that everyone is eager to pile on.

I used to live in North Vancouver, with a roommate who was, at one point, married to Gillian Anderson's body double when the X-Files were filming. They'd broken up, and the soon-to-be-ex-wife was now hooking up with Mitch Pelegi in a pretty serious way.

They were talking marriage, except for the fact that Dean, the roommate, was still technically married to Arlene. Wups. He was refusing to get the divorce handled because "fuck her". Needless to say, Mitch was calling the house fairly regularly trying to talk to Dean in order to get him to deal with the divorce so they could go ahead and get married, but he was ducking him. That meant that I, the roommate, answered the phone a lot, and ended up chatting with good ole Mitch more than you'd expect.

"Hey Nett... Mitch here... Dean around?"
    "Hold on... let me check..."
Dean standing right beside me, shaking his head "no", waving me on...
"Sorry Mitch... don't think he's here..."
"*sigh*. OK.", knowing full well that it was bullshit, "tell him I called, would you? You still have my cell number?"
"Yep... sorry man... wish I could help..."
"Yeah... well.... talk to you again soon, I'm sure."
"See you... oh... great season this season... hope filming is going well... I'm a big fan..."
"Thanks... glad you're enjoying it... I'd invite you to the set, but that just seems weird."
"I hear you... talk to you later..."

Probably did that about 10 times in a month. Eventually he hired a process server and had him served with papers to force action on the divorce, which happened shortly thereafter.

The point of all that was that the amount of absolute bullshit that I heard from on-site antics and backstabbing, from the lowliest production assistant who ran for coffees to the gopher that drove people around in a car was almost inhuman. It was filled with such vitriol and abuse I could not believe it.

There are a few interviews with Dave Chappelle going around about why he quit... and it's pretty telling...

It gives you the impression that there are no innocents in the entertainment business... except maybe John Ritter and Michael Landon.

Based on his appearances on Howard Stern, this isn’t much of a surprise.

On an unrelated note, Canada just walked away from the Trans Pacific Partnership.

I Takei it you were surprised by that?

This is starting to remind me of steroids in baseball. Everyone who did it (which was everyone) got called out for what was basically the worst kept secret. It was the rarity that you were clean, not the other way around. I see this going down a similar path.

Someone like Harrison Ford, Tom Hanks, George Clooney is gonna get called out for this and then shit is REALLY gonna hit the fan.

Its already gone full circle. Richard Dreyfuss's son accused Kevin Spacey of groping him, but now someone is accusing Richard Dreyfuss of exposing himself to her.

Are people still under the impression that a sex scandal can ruin a celebrity’s career? Did you not forget this is Earth?

Need I remind how what a sick and horrific act Jimmy Page pulled when he.... I’m sorry, “Stairway To Heaven” solo is playing, WHAT child that he kidnapped and raped were you talking about? I have no recollection.

That was then this is now. We're in an outrage culture. The Internet mobs and mainstream media would rather get up in arms about this, while allowing non-famous people who commit much more horrendous sex crimes go unnoticed by everyone but your friendly neighborhood jail residents looking to right some wrongs.

Eventually the torch-wielding masses will find someone else to burn, but until then I'm sure trump loves the heat being off him for a bit.

We’re not an outrage culture, but a TEMPORARY outrage culture. We’re talking about lonely, soulless attention whores here: there’s no passion or relatability to what they’re “fighting for”, they’re bored and this is how they fill their life-void. They just bitch and point and say “People (who I am not sure exist) are offended and this person deserves to have their life ruined”.....without knowing. They just want to be on the side of the Good Guys.

Yes, that was then and this is now. Back then people could do things like beat their spouse or kids and get away with it. Now that they can’t, they are forced to behave in a different matter to channel their sociopathy, this is a good present example how assholes act like assholes. Hiding behind virtue signalling and pretending they give a shit so people will like them.

And Hollywood just had the worst summer box office in more than a decade. Coincidence? Is it because the movies are terrible, or are you not watching because Russian facebook trolls are controlling your mind? You decide.

    This is CNN. Out.

That project is actually pretty interesting. The Russians aren't making these stories up, but they are definitely making concerted efforts to push the viral narrative in one direction or another. It's basically an ongoing effort in keeping conservatives in a constant state of outrage.

They're trying to keep everyone in a state a perpetual outrage and it's working magnificently.

To what extent you give Russia credit at least, as related to the dysfunctional state of politics in general.

This is funny. I have a one year old son. I have not been to the movies since his birth. We have an evening coming up where he can stay at school until 10pm so parents can go on a date. We have a gift card to the local multiplex. We looked at the movie schedule and there isn’t a movie I would watch for free out there right now.

Plus going to the movies is a shitty experience. I have a better screen, better sound, better seating and much better snacks.

Is there any end is site, or will it always be shitty?

Im surprised the movie industry hasn't really put some R&D into making new technologies that can compete clarity wise with modern TVs. I dont know how well today's Costco sound systems sound up against a movie theater but that was the only big stand out when I still went to movies frequently. If you spend a bit more on audiophile stuff you'll have a better experience anyway. The kind of event like experience is the only thing that can't be replicated at home.
