Shkreli is such a weirdo, and its too bad because by most measures he seems pretty brilliant, along with being a garden-variety sociopath.
He always wanted to be the cool kid. I don’t know why anybody needed to flaunt as much as him, you’re not a real celebrity why do you NEED a famous reputation???? I would be shocked if he didn’t have a Borderline Personality Disorder.
Hes definitely got something wrong with him. He thought he was such hot shit for spending $2 million on a Wu-Tang album, 10 years after everyone else stopped giving a shit about Wu-Tang. His live stream videos were uploaded to Youtube. He basically spent his free time getting into arguments with people over the most banal topics or doing how-to videos on company valuation. Such an odd guy.
All he had to do was nothing. Kick back and enjoy life in a pile of money. Instead he goes to prison. As a felon, which means he’s in there with the Big Boys, eating the same shit food, wearing the same shit clothes and under constant rule 24-7. Drag.
Secret Agenda much? https://www.thestar.com/news/gta/20...had-sex-with-male-patients-in-his-office.html How do people like this even get to be called an actual “doctor”? Was his degree from Liberty University?
Hes 72 years old and had butt sex with them. Maybe his therapeutic strategy was to repulse them so much they'd never want to have it again?
http://amp.ksbw.com/article/seaside-high-teacher-accidentally-fires-gun-in-class/19426017 https://www.nbcwashington.com/news/...lly-Fires-Weapon-Inside-School-476676103.html Just when it seemed the people were more seriously considering arming teachers we get at least two accidental discharges in school buildings in a short time. I think arming more trained people in schools might be a good deterrent to these school shootings, but the bullets need to remain unfired when there isn't an active shooter. I've had my own accidental discharge. I pulled a shotgun out of the cabinet, checked that it was unloaded, it was. I carried it outside, loaded two shells, shot them both and leaned the gun on the wall and went inside to get something. My teenage brother-in-law loaded the gun while I was away from it and left the safety off. I picked up the gun to carry it back inside and shot a hole in my floor. Totally my fault, I didn't clear it when I picked it back up. I knew better then, I certainly won't ever treat one like it's unloaded again.
There will always be those people who just should not be allowed to have guns or do other dangerous things, but are allowed to anyway because they pass the tests. I've known hunters that passed all the tests but had the situational awareness of a Barney Fife and who would probably kill someone if they went hunting for real. That being said, part of what we're seeing here is the sensationalist factor... even if this shit normally happens every day, now that it's a huge hot button, it's being thrown under the microscope for all to see, making it appear way out of context. It's one of those huge "benefits" of free and instant mass communication. Like that famous DEA agent/moron:
Kind of like the person who fails their driving test 16 times and on the 17th try finally skates by. No, they are not now a safe driver. But by God they passed the test and now they're out there with the rest of us operating a 4000lb weapon.
You don't need to arm teachers. You just need to take away these stupid "gun free zones" that are nothing more than bullseyes for bad guys. The only people who follow laws are, by definition, law abiding citizens. If you're a criminal, a tiny thing like a law and a sign is not gonna stop you from carrying your firearm wherever you damn well please. And the mass shooter types HATE resistance, hell look at what happens the first time they encounter it: they all kill themselves. So they take their killing into schools and concerts and churches and places where they know that no one there is going to be armed and capable of fighting back. They kill people in places where they know that the nearest gun is a 911 call away. I'm a school administrator, and I don't think you need to arm teachers. But I do think that you need to remove the "gun free zone label" that does more harm than good. And let EVERYONE know that you're no longer a gun free zone. And if I'd like to carry my concealed .380 while I pickup my two sons, that should be my right. Not that I would want to, or need to, but simply that I could if I were so inclined. That would be enough of a deterrent to be effective. Simply the thought that there might be armed citizens inside the building, makes bad guys no longer consider schools easy targets.
So when law enforcement shows up how are they supposed to differentiate the good guys from the bad guys? I'm not saying you're wrong, but I don't think it's as straight forward as good guys get the bad guy when an incident happens. Maybe someone like you gets the shooter, maybe the cops show up and end up shooting you. I'd personally only be comfortable with highly trained and competent people operating in that situation and any yahoo with a free weekend and a clean record can get a concealed carry license.
And who is that, exactly? If you're referring to law enforcement, then you'll probably be surprised to find out that the vast majority of cops are not trained for such scenarios, and will not be at all competent. If you had to wait for a specialty SWAT team to show up, then you're already too late. I think it comes down to the classic "handle it myself right now" or "trust in someone else to do it for me eventually" headspace. Personally, I'd rather depend on myself in almost all situations. Call me a crazy cynic, but if there's one thing I've learned in life it's that the vast majority of people are just faking it enough to get by, and that includes cops, especially for situations that they're never likely to experience in real life, never mind train for.
Depending on yourself is great when the situation only affects you. These types of situations involve dozens to hundreds of people. Those people don't know your competence with a gun. They may not know you at all. To them you are just a potential threat. Also, if most cops aren't prepared/trained to handle an active shooter situation what makes you think that a regular citizen with above average training is? Very few people, even people who are extremely competent with a gun, are truly prepared to handle a live fire fight. I'm personally more comfortable with coming up with defensive solutions (armored/barricadable doors etc). Then turning a school into a shootout. I suppose ultimately it should be up to the individual school districts. Each community needs to decide how the think that type of situation should be handled.
I have to go to great lengths to make sure I don't carry when I pick up my son from the elementary school. It's insane. It's almost impossible for me to carry on a regular basis. If I'm going somewhere iffy during school hours, I leave the pistol at home, drop him off and go back for it, about an extra 20 minutes of driving. If I don't have time for that, which isn't often, I have dropped my pistol in the ditch across the road and gone back for it as I leave. I can see where I drop it the whole time I'm waiting for him to come out. I'd never harm anyone with my guns unless in defense of my life or others, but I absolutely don't want to be arrested for having it in the glovebox on school grounds. About the scetchiest place I go is the VA hospital parking garage. You need to watch out for those wackos, old bastards are looking for a fight sometimes. Also another gun free zone, but I doubt that matters to some especially crazy vets.
Call me selfish, but I really don't care what they think of my competence. Am I worried about other people's competency? Absolutely. Should they be worried about mine? Absolutely. But if shit hits the fan, I'd rather be able to do something about it than not. And if they're even thinking about other people being able to shoot back, there's a chance they won't even start to shoot in the first place. Eliminate soft, easy targets, and you raise the barrier to entry. "Better to have a gun and not need it, than need one and not have it." I also think it's a joke to try and turn schools into prisons. It won't work. If you can't keep shit out of a prison that is designed, from the ground up to do exactly that, then there's no way in hell you're going to protect a school in any meaningful manner. And we're talking about schools that can't afford pencils... so where is the budget coming from to fortify them? The other option is to preach education in schools... as in, "there is a statistically zero chance that this awful thing you saw on TV is ever going to happen to you, so don't worry about it and carry on with your life." But we know that won't ever happen... the world has become an environment where absolutely anything that is bad is absolutely going to happen to you so you have to take efforts to proactively protect yourself from it.
I’d say the risk of accidents either students or the teacher is well worth the chance to engage and neutralize one sided slaughter.
I would agree. And if 9/11 taught people one thing, it's that you should stand up and take action yourself and not rely on others to get yourself out of trouble. In any situation you will find that there are people who can and will help, and those that will not or cannot help. You'd like to think that a cop's uniform somehow magically endows its' wearer with those beneficial properties, but that's not the case. Sometimes training can help to teach people how to better behave and react in those situations, but it's not always effective, never mind for something as far out there as a school shooting scenario. Sometimes it's just a guy with a strong sense of right and wrong who rises to the occasion that makes all the difference. To tell everyone to defer to local law enforcement's procedures in such situations is, in my opinion, more about liability than anything. If it's a SEAL Team that's telling people, "heads down, stay put, we got this", then absolutely, do what they said... they are the best of the best with world-class training. If it's the local PD with a bullhorn they usually use for traffic control? Fuck no... odds are they have no real clue what they're doing. Why shouldn't you fight back in such situations?
Exactly. We shouldn't be doing ANYTHING that kids recommend... they're, by definition, young and stupid and motivated by pussy and attention. This whole thing is incredibly complex and nuanced, and boiling it down to "ban guns" is naive and silly. If anything, they are being manipulated by much smarter political forces than they understand.
Just to reinforce your point, take the example of the florida school shooting where the security guard hid. These kids are walking out of school to protest and the liberal media is jacking themselves off over it. Meanwhile, I'd reason about 99.9% of those student "protesters" are doing it simply because they think it is the cool thing to do right now, because they just want to get out of school, because they think being seen doing it will get them laid, or some combination.
Do you not think that some kids just don’t want to get shot? So they think the law makers should help them out.
