I don’t know if there is a good documentary on or not (there needs to be one) on the voire deir (sp) process in the US. It’s all built on demographic biases even though the jurors are supposed to be completely objective to the process.
A simple way to solve it is that profile cases’ decisions should go to a judge, the same way high profile criminals are put into isolation/PC with or without their consent. Personally I think juries suck entirely. Packed constantly with the lowest common denominator.
This is beyond fucked up. In California a wealthy 79 year old businessman was just convicted of statutory rape. That's bad enough, but it gets worse. Statutory rape of a 5 year old. How the blue fuck did they end up with that charge and not out and out child rape? And the story gets worse from there. Was he sentenced to spend the rest of his miserable life behind bars? Nope. 90 days of house arrest. 90 days locked in his mansion. Oh yeah, and as a bonus he doesn't have to register as a sex offender either. 90 days. In a mansion. Oh God, the humanity. What. The. Fuck.
Sex crimes and sex trafficking especially including the use of children for the trade is extremely common right now. I don't know if it's gotten worse in recent years or if I'm just more exposed to it but it is a serious problem in a lot of parts of this country including the Deep South and around areas like Atlanta. I have a claimant right now who is a victim herself. I don't want to get into all the details but it is as horrifying as you imagine. It seems like with a lot of these type of trades in crimes that involve groups of people committing them that the longer it goes on the more institutionalized it becomes and the more it is covered up by people in power due to bribery or other exchanges of power. It really does not surprise me that he got such a light sentence, he is probably very well connected and has been doing this for years. But, welcome to the information age. While I hope that the exposure to information about this stuff leads to a crackdown on the offenders and increases social awareness of the problem that makes people watch out for their neighbors and people around them, I doubt that will happen. People are inundated with too much information and they can't pick out what's important anymore. So they listen to their favorite pundits and have their opinions formed for them.
I mean we could just put a bullet in his head....... The Carolla show yesterday was interesting with the DA from Cali about the wife murderer getting paroled. Has that state really pushed that hard to empty the prisons that we start seeing stuff like this?
On that note, didn't ICE just lose track of almost 1500 children taken from their parents? I sincerely hope they're all with families that love them.
Last time I checked prisons were built for monsters, not addicts. Non-violent offenders who don’t steal don’t belong in prison. But this motherfucker below does. What ever happened to “Life” lasting for, y’know, LIFE? http://kmph.com/news/local/fresno-county-da-urges-governor-to-block-the-parole-of-convicted-murderer
What about non-violent offenders who steal from the government? https://www.nytimes.com/2018/05/25/us/rachel-dolezal-welfare-fraud.amp.html
Missouri Governor resigns during sexual misconduct stuff But this one smells fishy. At least from what I've read, it looks like he had an affair with someone and he likes to get a little kinky in the bedroom. Uhm.... so??? He likes rough sex. What's the big deal?
Yeah, I'm not sure what the big deal is supposed to be either. I'll never understand how the smallest indiscretions can level the careers of most politicians, but then guys like Donald Trump and Bill Clinton can get away with anything. All Bill had to do was just cry right wing attack and with Trump people just shrug and are like "What did you expect?" And what's up with Morgan Freeman? Is there more to that story? That article was really, really tame. What exactly is "unwanted touching"? Did he tap their shoulder? Did he try to shove his fist up their ass? The spectrum that includes "touching" is a wide one. If it's something serious why didn't they just tell the press initially? You're going to the press with this, why wouldn't you lay out the accusations? If it really was as tame as it looked (and I'm not saying it is) then who the fuck is that petty? I'm looking at you Al Franken accusers.
Wasn't the Missouri governor accused of forcibly taking naked pictures of a woman and then using that to blackmail her? Pretty sure it's not just an affair that's causing so much trouble for him.
Wait, do you mean nonconsensual photos or forced photos? Both are scandalous, but the actions involved are quite a bit different.
I read this when the story first came out a month or two ago, so my memory may not be perfect. He had her tied up and gagged for their S&M stuff and took photos of her and directly after (while she was still tied up) threatened that if she ever came forward about the affair he would release the photos. I guess that makes them nonconsensual, but either way it's a pretty despicable thing to do.
It sounds like there's way more to it than that... he's been indicted for a felony computer tampering charge, and if I read between the lines, it's sounding to me like they may have found something more incriminating while investigating that charge. His whole "the investigation has become too intense for me to handle while also being Governor" line makes me think he's bailing before the real shit becomes known.
Well... look at Ukraine, playing world-class spy games... staging the hit of a Russian journalist, only to pull the global "surprise!" at a press conference. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-44307611
Dude didn't even tell his wife this was going to happen. He let his wife think he had been murdered for a good 24 hours. That's cold as fuck.
