I think that's true in cases like the McDonald's coffee burn scandal, but most of the time it's just people wanting the easy payday. Paying someone a bunch of cash because the incident made them sad or what the fuck is such a silly way to address the problem. If the solution is to up corporate fines then do that instead. If some wrongful action incurred medical costs/lost time at work, etc, then by all means pay them, but that's a different issue.

For me the problem with the whole TSA fuck-up is that it was never about security. If it had been about security, the scanners used would be a different technology that can detect items in body cavaties. There were two competing companies to provide the scanners, the company who got the contract was a friend of Bush, not the one that provided effective screening. Everything done after that is nothing more than kabuki theater and a jobs program.

So, it should be transparent to everyone at this point that TSA has no business being in existence let alone being exempt from the pursuit of legal redress by aggrieved citizens. I seem to recall a certain document written a while back where this was a real sticking point with a certain group of people and it lead to severe and drastic change.

I don’t think it has to be one or the other. Are there frivolous lawsuits? Sure. But if we are going to be a capitalist society then the only way to get something to change is to have the risk outweigh the reward for the company/agency. Obviously with government agencies it gets a little screwy since it’s taxpayers footing the bill, but maybe then they’ll push for more oversight/better hiring and training practices etc..

Corporate fines for these things get into other issues because then you’ll have Fox or CNN screaming that it’s all politically motivated depending on who is issuing or receiving fines and does anyone really want to give them more stuff to go on about all day?

The Papa John's story blows my mind.

So first the founder blames declining sales on the NFL protest. Alt Righters cheer Papa John's on. Retards then freak out about how Papa John's is nazi pizza. Flash forward about a year. Forbes publishes this.

Within 48 hours:

- He steps down from Papa John's.
- He steps down from the Louisville board.
- The mlb cuts all ties with Papa John's.
- His name is taken off his home town high school gymnasium.
- Louisville removes Papa John's from their stadium.
- Jefferson gives back an $800k donation at the cost of a desperately needed renovation.
- This is my favorite. The marketing company cuts their contract with Papa John's and fires 10% of their staff as a result due to the reduced workload. That's fucking awesome.

I do agree with you in being disappointed by the way he was brought down though. I get sense people have been wanting to get rid of him for a while, and this was just the excuse they used to do it.
