I think it's kind of a natural result of having such a huge slice of humanity wanting you to fail... at some point you lash out. Personally, I couldn't give a shit what they say on Twitter... it's an entertainment outlet.
But would we be reacting the same way if, for example, the papa johns dude called a hero a pedo on Twitter? Or do musk’s good deeds for humanity give him a pass?
I tend to think that a one-off comment calling someone a "pedo" is not the same as being historically racist. If the only thing PJ did was call someone a pedo, I wouldn't give two shits. Not that I care what he does at all, really... I can just understand the position of those who no longer want to do business with PJ. If anyone wants to not buy a Musk product, or not work with him or any of his companies any more as a result of this comment, meh, so be it. Still don't care. Personally, I will give Musk a lot of leeway over hist comments and behaviour just because of the sheer amount of shit he's managed to do in his life that I'm impressed by. Papa John means nothing to me.
I am actually interested to see how this shakes out. If someone uses the "n-word" to refer to black dude, it's offensive, even if the dude actually has dark skin. But, if someone calls a dude a pedophile, and then doubles down again, betting that the dude actually IS a pedo? Because, either the dude is in fact a pedophile, and Musk is justified, or the dude is not a pedophile and has grounds for a defamation case or whatever it's called.
Yeah... to me it seems to be rather specific. But who knows, maybe the media got it right the first time for a change, and Musk is just being a dick who will be writing a cheque to that guy soon.
I think Musk has deleted the tweets now, which is too bad. I was rooting for it to totally backfire on the dude, actually exposing him. (To be clear, I am not rooting for anyone to BE a pedophile - just the ones who exist to be caught . . . and persecuted.)
From what I have gathered from people who have spent time in that part of the world, pedophilia is a lot more out in the open and prevalent out there. Tons of lady boys and young kids in parlors and such. It would be interesting to learn what kind of interaction Musk had with this guy to possibly reveal his interest or activities in pedophilia. Maybe the slapfight is over since he deleted them.
Jesus Christ, that guy isn't actually a pedophile. It's just the go-to right-wing choice of insult these days.
Didn't know Musk was considered right wing? He did go all "fake news" a few months ago on some media outlets. But that's understandable from anyone who has been unfortunate enough to be reported on by major outlets.
I think he's kind of omnipolitical. He donates to both parties and has enough views that can align to either side that it's always been a bit ambiguous. I meant more like there's been this weird trend on the right to baselessly accuse people of pedophilia, from Pizzagate and all that surrounded it to those guys that thought a homeless camp in Arizona was evidence of child sex trafficking a couple months ago, to claiming all these politicians and actors are running child sex trafficking rings, to claiming people are pedophiles as part of all these online harassment campaigns. It's seeping its way into just the general "argues on the internet" vernacular, and since Elon tweets like he's an angry virgin who lives in his mom's basement, I wasn't surprised he'd throw something like that out there.
He basically donates equally to each side, which is the smart business thing to do... cover your bases.
It is something that surprised me about him is his tweeting. You think a billionaire playboy would be balls deep in any and all comers to even have time to tweet.
It wasn't racial sensitivity training either, although that's at least a tad closer. Seriously guys, the articles you linked explained what the meeting was about. It was about avoiding bad PR because of how people reacted to his disagreement with the anthem protests, which by the way was "it's costing us money" not "Fuck these black people." For all I know the guy is a racist piece of shit and deserves all of it, but that wasn't in any of the articles. If he talked about racist stuff that happened to minorities where he grew up in a "that was really cool" way then that's really fucked up and he deserves the backlash. If he brought it up in a "yeah I know racism has a bad history" kind of way that's completely different(Nor is it odd to bring up bad shit that's happened in history during a discussion of race. Why would it be?). Why is the latter so hard to imagine? Where is the evidence of his history of racism? Because it wasn't in those links. Also, the people who leaked this were obviously trying to make him look bad, hoping people would react like you did. If he was talking about what happened to black people like it was some super cool thing I'm not sure why they left that part out, or the part where he's saying racist shit on a daily basis. And maybe he did/does. I'm just saying that saying one stupid inappropriate thing isn't proof of that, but I guess I'm an idiot for thinking so.
The company that was hired to help train him to stop doing this basically threw in the towel and said "we can't do this anymore, we don't want you as a client". But yeah, it makes perfect sense that they'd do that over one little inappropriate thing.
No, it wouldn't, but it wouldn't be the first and only example of an overreaction like that. It also wouldn't make sense that he's doing it all the time, but "we're going to mention to the press just this one little incident and purposely leave everything else out." Yes, it's possible, but I don't get why you're so certain. Also, the articles I read suggested he brought these things up to demonstrate that he was against racism but did said demonstration in a really stupid way.
