I’m pretty sure they’re in bed with them as one of the largest second hand resellers. Was there a time when stub hub tickets were actually a better deal than buying direct? Last few concerts I got on stubhub were anywhere near a deal or better selection than the direct listings on ticket master which had the exact same seats listed.

It's like there was a huge pre-access API that scalpers could access for tickets that went for sale online... as huge concerts would sell out in under 10 seconds. That's just not possible without the system being specifically designed to do that.

I mean, why wouldn't TM want that? They could sell out within seconds, with full payment? That's the ideal scenario for them... it just fucks over the concert-goer, which they don't give a shit about.

Because its a giant pump-and-dump/kick-back scheme. Before TM came along, venues would either sell the tickets to concerts themselves or contract with ticket systems/agencies for a service charge. Then TM came about and told them they could have the ticket system for free as long as Live Nation (LN), the TM parent company, secured exclusive, monopolistic contracts with the venues. Now the venues dont have to pay those fees because TM will sell the ticket prices negotiated with the artists with the addition of an extra fee to offset the price of the ticketing system. Then LN kicks back a percentage of the additional fees to the venues, which they like quite a bit. I suspect that there is a third tier to the entire arrangement where resellers like StubHub have a similar kickback arrangement with TM to get a first, exclusive swipe at those tickets in addition to another set a fees tacked on to the price, and the revenue kicks back to TM, LN and up the chain to the venues. Why does it work? Well, it doesnt work that great. Even with that, TM's return-on-investment is still razor thin. But people bitch about the fees and the shows still sell out even on the secondary, tertiary and quaternary (street scalpers, etc.) markets.

Say what you will of him, but Louis CK toured using an Anti-TicketMaster methodology that seemed to work very well.

For those of you living on the moon and uninformed how truly wretched ticketmaster is....

I recently bought some tickets from SeatGeek for the first time, and my experience was nothing like that. In fact it would have been fairly more expensive to buy directly from the venue (an MLB game) for comparable seats.

I (and others, I'm sure) probably wouldn't feel AS bad if they were just upfront about the price.
Instead of showing the original price PLUS all of the bullshit, made up fees, just come out and say that the tickets are going to be $50 instead of $35.
I don't like it, but as has been mentioned, sometimes they are the only option.
With that said, Ticketmaster can go suck a shitty dick.

Do any of y'all think this will actually lead to some kind of positive change, though?

No. I currently have five "vouchers" I can use for $2-3 the next time I order from TicketBastard from another class action lawsuit. So, at best, there will be another payoff like that. The convenience fee will just go up another $1.50 per ticket.

I haven’t used them since I don’t know when. I fucking hate them. I didn’t see bands I WANTED to see because they sold the tickets. Back in the 90’s they marked up tickets two, three dollars max around here. That’s when they had their own booths in music stores, when they ACTUALLY provided somewhat of a service to you. You were printed up cool, collectable ticket stubs in sleek little envelopes. It was exciting back then.

Fuck them. When you rip off music fans for concerts you deserve to get thrown into a volcano filled with AIDS. What a morally bankrupt organization to work for.

There is anti-scalping legislation here in Ontario that was recently enacted... it'll be interesting to see if it will have any impact on this discovery.

I heard a law firm in Regina is going after Ticketmaster as well. Pile on, kids.

Can we stop pretending that Serena Williams isn’t a crybaby, whining, cheating bitch? Just shut up and work on your backhand, Mr. T.

Quiet, racist. That was a clear cut example of an adult spoiled brat in action. Alexis Ohanian must be unbelievably henpecked.

Are you still mad from last week, or just now seeing her tantrum at the US Open? Or, did she do something new?

    Racist, you say?

Like the one where she pins him to the wall, by the throat, with one hand, his feet ten inches off the floor and tells him “I never get my way!”

Neither. It’s just people are still babbling and whining about it, I wasn’t sure if it were brought up yet, but it’s attracted enough idiocy that I thought we should do the right thing and trash the whole thing. What an unnecessary circus.

I’m just baffled by the support she’s getting, and people keep trying to spin this into some sort of battle against the”patriarchy”. We all know how rough the Williams sisters have it. They were only finally guests on The Simpson’s what, fifteen years ago?

Right? Why the fuck does the MAN have to sit in the high chair while poor, billionaire long-haired Lawrence Taylor has to stay down there on the ground like the rest of us rats.

I was in Alaska on a cruise ship watching that match when it all went down. It was a day at sea, and since there was nothing else to do but drink, gamble, and watch sports that's what I was doing. It was the first tennis match, or game, or point or whatever I have seen from start to finish. The crowd that gathered was absurd. I have never heard so many racial slurs shouted at the tv by the majority African American crowd. A bartender explained the rules to me (which from my understanding Serena clearly violated). Serena was wrong, unless you wanna make this a race thing, which unfortunately the people around me did. It got so bad that myself and a few other "honkeys" (I didn't know that word until then) watching had to stand back by boat security while we were clapping for Ohanian after she won.

I am now a tennis fan after watching all that, and for anyone who follows the sport I'd love to get advice on who to follow and where/which websites to do so. But the way serena acted, and the way her "fans" reacted.... well that was absolutely fucking pathetic. And unfortunately I think it's the reason a lot of people voted in trump.

I am stunned by this information.
