I mean it has to be mental health issues right? Some grandiose narcissism with a sort of Munchausens. If he preplanned it, the whole victim narrative is gone for him. He can't claim shit.
Funny how some floundering anti-lynching legislation got rushed right through as soon as his story hit the press. https://www.cnn.com/2019/02/14/politics/senate-anti-lynching-harris-booker/index.html
Lynching being a federal crime seems like a slam dunk though? Couldn't it be tacked on to some other bill with no chance it'll be a poison pill? Also, The Simpsons used to be king of this stuff:
Fake hate crimes were really rampant in the month after the 2016 election. The people who do this are some weird motherfuckers. My favorite though are the made up stories where some 5 year old asks why da bad man is pwesident. Maybe it's just me, but that shit is hilarious for some reason.
It’s looking like Smollett concocted this whole entire thing. Even the original threat he received in the mail. I hope he gets a lot of jail time. Everyone who thinks he “needs help” can get fucked. He piggy backed on a real movement and tried to capitalize on everyone’s sympathy and made them all look like jackasses. Everyone who jumped in to #standwithjessie or whateverthefuck should publicly condemn his behavior.
And, it wasn't even to make a statement for social justice or put a spotlight on racially motivated violence or increase his Twitter presence. He did it for straight up greed. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/eddie-...shameful-in-news-conference-today-2019-02-21/
The most sinister and disturbing thing is when he found out that Chicago PD has two suspects in custody, he immediately offered to testify against them. Until he found out the suspects in custody were the guys he hired. So he was willing to testify against and ruin the lives of two completely innocent people for no other reason than to elevate himself. What a truly awful human being.
Am I the only one who thinks it’s highly unlikely he does jail time? I could see supervised probation with a mental health assessment of some sort, but for someone with(as far as I know) no record and that kind of legal team behind him I’d be very surprised if he actually did time.
His lawyers will probably argue a mental health defense. The problem I have is the lengths he went to make this whole thing up. That he was willing to ruin people’s lives for a goddamned raise. He should be dragged forever.
You may be right. Or, he may not do time because he kills himself. But, the Chief of Police and the judge who presided over his bond hearing are pretty pissed off at him, especially with the use of the noose. https://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/ct-met-jussie-smollet-arrest-20190221-story.html
I barely even give a shit what kind of sentence he gets. The real problem is the way people respond to this stuff. He did it because people cream their pants about stories like this and it's pathetic. Even if it was true, why is there reason to really give a shit about this story to the extent that people did? So some random racist assholes beat someone up 1,000 miles away from you. Holy shit, call in the national guard! We have an epidemic!
I still can’t even grasp the level of arrogance this takes. You became famous and wealthy off an extremely popular and extremely overrated show, and that wasn’t enough money and attention for you? End yourself.
He could have had non-consensual sex with one of the investigating officers and gotten the whole #metoo movement involved and maybe kaepernick to kneel.
I’m seeing some new articles saying that he still swears to his fellow cast members that he’s innocent. Maybe he’s thinking he can Ralph Northam his way through the storm?
