@Clutch Tou live in Columbus, right? It's the gay capital of the Midwest surely you know people effected by being gay.

I have several gay friends. Two of them have parents that disowned them. Up until a few months ago none of them could get married in the state and all of the cohabitating couples were forced to pay more for insurance because their marriage wasn't recognized. They all have terrible stories about the way people treat them in public. You can't control all people, but the government should not be able to discriminate.

@Clutch Just so you and everyone else know for factual purposes, that bakery was sued not because they refused to make a cake for the gay couple. That's still a right they're able to exercise as a private business owner. (Regardless of whether or not you agree with it is moot in this instance.) They were sued because they released the couple's private names and addresses to their "supporters" asking them to harass them due to all the negative publicity their choice was having on their business, which is in fact illegal.

Those are completely different situations, are they not? Your grandfather declined to perform the ceremony, and this lady refused to issue a marriage licence. He wasn't a government employee in a government office, right?

I'll repost what Jimmy James' reddit blurb from the last page:
Government employees on the clock are not protected by the First Amendment, they are bound by it. The entire purpose of the First Amendment is to protect citizens from the government. When she's acting as an agent of the government, the Constitution protects us from her. She is not a private citizen when officially performing her duties; She is not Kim Davis, she is the Rowan County Clerk. She has no Freedom of Speech/Religion when speaking with the voice of the government because in that act she is the entity that Freedom of Speech/Religion protects us from.

So many people, most notably certain elected officials, completely misunderstand this very important distinction. This whole fiasco is nothing more than misinformed people kicking up a fuss about a very well-defined concept that they clearly don't understand.

How does your stance fit in with that?

You can't use your religious convictions as an agent of the government.

How you run your business, or your own personal life is not the same as being a representative of the government.

We are supposed to be protected from people like her, not the other way around.

Look, I don't agree with her stance at all. If she felt her religion forbade her from carrying out her duties, she should've resigned.

However, when she was elected, her job description did not include something that went against her principals. That was thrust upon her. It's like if you have a Jewish employee and suddenly you require as part of their duties to eat a pork sandwich every day, if they refuse they get fired.

As I said, I don't think she was right, but I also don't think people going out of their way to taunt and harass her are any more right. The only reason they're doing it is to further their own agenda and using a person with a different belief structure as a scapegoat.

But her job description didn't change at all. Just the scope of who was allowed to get governmentally issued marriage licenses. No one was making her marry a woman. Your analogy doesn't work because her job was being performed the exact same way.

Police release pictures from inside Aurora theater and gunman's booby-trapped apartment.

Jesus christ. I was going through those with my mouth literally open. The level of planning that had to go into that (once you see the apartment you'll know what I mean), the level of expertise, is just insane. There's isn't a single picture in there that doesn't make me wonder what the fuck is wrong with the world.

And girls sending him selfie pictures in prison? Really?!? For once, I hope the SJWs do kick into high gear and embarrass the shit out of those girls. I hope each and every one of them gets publicly exposed for trying to make a mass murderer's life even a little bit more enjoyable.

I see what you're saying. I don't feel any sympathy for her though, nor do I give her any respect for sticking to her guns - because you're right, she should have just resigned. I think she deserves to be made fun of on the internet, but as usual, I'm sure it's poured over into blatant harassment and death threats, which is too far.

Gavin Newsom ignored CA marriage law in 2004; Hilary's ignoring the law on her email server; Lois Lerner and the IRS are ignoring the law on that; every mayor of a "sanctuary city" is ignoring US immigration law..... Why shouldn't the little redneck guy (or gal) get in on the fun?

(Just to be clear, I think all officials should obey the law. I can't help but notice that it's the unpowerful one advocating the unpopular cause who gets the book thrown at her).

Nobody's equating it in terms of scale. I think people are upset because having been through such experiences and trying to evolve into a better society, but this shit is still happening. As an analogy, one could use the recent measles outbreaks. We invented vaccines and it should be a thing of the past. Instead we are dealing with this shit again. The outbreaks happening now are a tiny fraction of what we once experienced, but the fact that we are experiencing them at all is upsetting.

It's arguable whether it is a small handful of fundamentalists or more pervasive, but even a handful is too much.

And toytoy, I get admiring someone's convictions, but I draw the line when those convictions hurt people who don't deserve to be hurt. And your story was sad to me because I feel like that experience should have made your grandfather do some serious navel gazing about whether that particular part of his beliefs actually enriched his life the way religions are supposed to.

It's not hard to figure out... women are naturally attracted to the bad boy, and most of those "women" on the wall are too young and stupid to know much of anything about life yet.

I know, I know. I even preyed upon that fact as a young man, but damn....he killed 12 people and injured 70 more. That's not a misunderstood and brooding bad boy, that's a fucking psychopath.

Uhh I'm pretty sure those women are just fucking psychos too. Young women like James Dean bad boys, not James Holmes mass murderers. Big difference.

So did anybody else see this horrible crane collapse in Mecca? It smashed into the Grand Mosque that houses the Black Stone (the holiest of Holy places in Islam) and has killed at least 107 people. Just awful stuff.

AAAnd that why we can't have nice things....

Seriously, it because we live in an era where if i can't pull up the moment of destruction from 5 different angles, its not shit. but if i can, CNN,FOX,MSNBC has it for 6 hours and has ass-hats talking on-air about it for days. Real journalism is almost dead. Fact-checking is dead. No one gave a fuck about Syrian refugees until a 3yr old washes up ashor and its on the NYT, when anyone on the ground could've told you this has been going on for almost years. Optics rule.

Is this going to be the new trend to become a 15 minute famewhore? Because it's old already.

I promise I'm not trolling. Here's this week's "crazy person dies under police custody" article. Note I do not find the police's methods to be the problem here. She was f'n nuts and super violent, not going down from the tazer. What else are they supposed to do. My point is: here's another story. These things are adding up, nobody wants to do jack all. A schizophrenic is absolutely unable to rationally process ANYTHING going on. Couple that with tard strength and any kind of interference or invasion of space will result in an agitated/violent reaction. These people need a place to be taken for sedation and observation by professionals.

    http://www.rawstory.com/2015/09/dis...-in-jail-you-promised-me-you-wouldnt-kill-me/

Then there's this story out of Boston. A woman waited 10 days in an ER, while a crazy pervert took his pants off in front of her, for a bed in a mental health facility.

    http://www.bostonglobe.com/metro/20...-health-bed/7dxMXRRRoZF6SypExpg9jN/story.html

I see these Wound Warrior commercials on TV. They enrage the living hell out of me. This country spent trillions putting these people in harm's way, sometimes without even properly arming them, but we won't spend anymore to care for them properly after their service? They have to depend on donations, or nothing at all? Disgusting. It's the same thing with the mental health crisis in the general public. We blow hundreds of billions on contractors during peace time and we can't fund a real public crisis? Fucking shameful. Getting off my soapbox now.
