I guarantee you police violence will be a reduced fraction of itself if that happens. They have no excuse not to do that, and no excuse to reject it as legislations Cops who actually worry about lawsuits obviously have misconduct programmed into their DNA, and should be fixing drinks or mopping floors for a living instead.

It was a SURPRISE. If you tell them in advance you’re going to use goons to beat peaceful protestors to get your upside-down bible photo-op, it ruins the fun.

It depends, plans pension plans are governed based on state and local laws. Only private plans are subject to ERISA.

My parents had some friends they were close with a couple decades ago. The guy was a cop in Palm Beach County for his whole career and his wife was a halfwit who lost her job as limited scope nurse because she couldn't read and fucked up patient's prescriptions. Just a real typical cop personality complete with mustache. Even with 10 years left in his career, he spoke of nothing but his pension when our families would get together. The next-door neighbor was also a cop and they always told stories of how they treated people and laughed about how they were dicks to people. I was too young to understand what pieces of shit they were because they always told the stories in a humorous way. Hindsight though? Fuck 'em.

No he wasn't, your relative's friend was. The idea that police, not even military in a war zone, but domestic police, are excused for having such poor weapon control that they're hitting randos in the head, is fucking ridiculous.

I had a discussion with a buddy of mine about all the videos of cops abusing power. He's a pretty staunch thin blue line supporter so when I brought up the whole "99% of the good cops should rat out the bad 1%" argument, he said that'd never happen because that could mean the 1% bad cop could lose their pension and they would kill the cop ratting them out. My head almost exploded that he didn't see the irony that cops are such great people but they would literally fucking murder another "brother in arms" person over a pension.

I wonder if what is making this whole thing worse for the cops as far as their behavior is concerned is that the protests are literally about them. Its not like a klan rally with opposing counter protestors. The cops are physically beating the shit out of people doing literally nothing because they feel threatened. I highlighted some choice passages from the NYPD SBA(sergeants benevolent association).

I'm not sure they know what benevolent means, but they clearly feel at war with the citizenry. Between the released recordings of cops telling other cops to run people over and shoot protestors quickly followed by a warning not to say that stuff over the radio, and then videos of straight up gang-style abuse on non-threatening people, they aren't exactly helping their cause.

They can't accept at all that their job performance is a problem. At the absolute most you will get "made a mistake" followed by a litany of excuses and bitching about how they're treated. The concept of considering, or even acknowledging criticism is foreign to them.

They are a woefully corrupt demographic. That oath they swear to doesn’t mean shit to them.

they need to stop hiring the assholes who were picked on in grade school until they they had the thought: “You know, if I was the hall monitor I could lord that over everybody!”

Many cops are either kids who used to get bullied, or used to do the bullying. And that is a gigantic problem.

You and I are on the same page. The “Eat The Rich” spray-painting on the showcase car kind of gave me a Jussie Smollet-esque vibe.
