Oh my GOD. ...just so everyone is clear, this little video stunt backfired HORRIBLY against her. As it should.
I know someone, the wife of a cop, who changed her last name because she was "afraid of what might happen to her if they associated her with him." This dude, the cop, is a genuinely nice guy, no doubt in my mind he would never harm a flea, he's never been involved in anything ever. The biggest threat to her is that her youtube channel with 14 followers, 13 of whom are her family and the other follower is an accident, gets flagged and deleted. So she changes her last name, then goes on facebook and talks about how she changed her last name and blah blah blah. Clearly just wanting attention. And what's so funny, beyond the dependapotamus thing, is that she's a pumpkin spice latte sipping, yoga pants to walmart wearing basic white girl, and the last name she picked is a hilariously stereotypical black name. that girl needs jesus
atlanta officer who shot man outside of wendys charged with 11 counts, including felony-murder. Under Atlanta law, if convicted he could face the death penalty. I suspect he will be found not guilty, as that shooting was considered lawful under existing Atlanta law. They're wanting to change Atlanta law, and of course are being publicly pressured to charge the officer, but at the time of the shooting it was lawful. Officers are trained to use one level of force greater than what is being used against them. Whether they should be trained that way is up for debate, and I certainly don't agree with the way they're trained, but it's current reality. Rayshard Brooks fired a taser at the officer, so the officer fired his gun. Not good, but lawful. It'll be a disaster when he's found not guilty of all charges. Good video breakdown on it:
WOW. In the immortal words of Dave Chappelle: "That's a brittle spirit." And also, what the fuck? Her name is KAREN, and she didn't even ask to see the manager?
I think her name is Stacey. If she is really a cop, that means they gave her a gun. To go hand-in-hand with that obviously overdue lithium prescription.
I'm just surprised that this is her first experience with shitty service from McDonald's. I've had them ask me to hand them my receipt back so they could remember what my order was. Good thing she didn't order ice cream, or she'd be ranting about being refused service.
The next time they make you wait three minutes, call up this cop and you two can have a nice big cry over it together.
If there is one thing I know about cops going to trial, is that all bets are off. Cops have gotten away or received wrist-slaps for things like shooting people for reaching for their ID while commanded to do so. They’ll have a dozen excuses for kicking him while shot, starting with he was trying to kick him over to his back, or “cause a physical disablement/disruption” with his jackboots.
Walking off the job because people asked you to stop breaking the law, mere weeks after nurses and doctors kept working despite not even being provided adequate supplies to protect their own health, quite frankly makes you look like a little bitch.
Do you think it's because of danger or because their brother in blue got charged with a ton of crap for shooting when a drunk criminal that just stole his taser and pointed it at them? If it's because of danger, I'm with you, if it's because the officer caught a murder charge, I'm not. There are lots of cases an officer should have been charged with murder, I don't think this is one of them.
If public opinion is such that a cop in that situation is a murderer I would get the hell out of the profession too.
It should also make you fired. I wish I could just walk off the job and continue to collect tax revenue no matter what. I say replace them. They expendable, anyways. Lots of people are looking for a job that won’t whine about having to do it properly.
What do the cops do when they arrest the wrong person for murder? Let due process play out. Maybe take a dose of their own medicine.
Not give a single fuck, that’s what they do. “Testilying” is real, and it is a commonly-used tool combining their authority over the victim with qualified immunity which will defect every single bit of accountability they have into the garbage disposal. There is an NYPD detective, Louis Scarcella, who is living in comfy retirement in a big house Staten Island who spent decades arresting, shaking down and framing innocent people in New York City. Hundreds of innocent people sent prison. When confronted with this, he just shrugs his shoulders and tells everyone to go fuck themselves, and then proudly says he’s New York’s best cop. He deserves to put against a wall, shot, and pissed on. Instead they simply will not prosecute him, charge him, or even publicly disgrace him. He’s still a hero amongst their ranks because THEY DON’T GIVE A FUCK. ...and if you think this sort of person is an isolated incident or an anomaly, you are completely out of your fucking mind.
Or we could not be jackasses and not move forward acting like every cop is a walking stereotype of the worst person to ever to exist. Come on, guys. We're not dealing with the SS here.
No they aren't, but I think what needs to change is the fundamental approach to basic policing. It is generally adversarial and the amount of power cops have in the moment is constantly abused even if it's not a violent interaction. They can stop you for any reason and question your basic whereabouts and demand ID. Questioning their motive or noncompliance typically results in some kind of escalation on their part because they don't want to be seen as wrong or weak. They are allowed to lie to people during interrogation if it furthers their cause. They can seize assets if they feel they could be used in the furtherance of committing a crime and there isn't shit anyone can do about it. The amount of casual power cops have is wielded without regard for the fact that it can ruin someone's life at any moment. So if a bunch of cops don't like the way the tide is changing and want to quit out of some combination of childish petulance and impotent rage, I say let them. They can go back to beating their wives full time.
Jocko Willinick had a decent take on the whole thing. Essentially money should be diverted from purchasing heavier weapons to training requirements.
