Remember Dennis Miller on Monday Night Football? “The Packers’ patient mastery of the Chiefs’ defence makes Winston Churchill like a spastic yoga instructor on addicted to crack!” I don’t think he ever said that, but he probably said it.
They called the FBI because they are supposed to call the authorities when they thought that a hate crime might have occurred. Had they investigated it internally and found exactly what they found no one would believe them. People would assume that it was a cover up. Now NASCAR looks like an organisation that did all of the right things when three months ago they looked like the last organisation that would bother. They were open and transparent, they called the right people, they supported their people and they are moving forwards.
So is the discussion now about whether or not "somebody 'put a noose' in the garage of a black driver?" I can totally understand, seeing that picture, how somebody would have thought that somebody put a noose there on purpose. I can also understand that somebody saying the phrase "put a noose" doesn't have to completely and totally mean "brought their own piece of rope, fashioned into a hangman's knot, and attached the end of the rope to something in the garage, with the knot hanging down, as if it were a noose." It could mean that somebody fashioned the end of an existing pull cord into a noose. With everything going on these days, I can see how somebody who saw a hangman's knot on the garage door of the only black driver, and didn't immediately think "oh, wait, that's the rope on the garage door - it's perfectly normal to be fashioned in a knot that is called the hangman's knot, and is universally known as a knot used to hang people." So if somebody asked me "can you believe that they called the FBI about this?" Yes - I can believe that, and I can understand why they did. I believe NASCAR handled it very well.
they are also walking that fine line between being meme-territory "woke" and being rational and responding appropriately. Everyone seems to be either over reacting or under reacting (looking at you, NFL owners), and they threaded the needle perfectly. It's starting to look more and more like the NBA isn't gonna finish their season, and if that happens then there's gonna be a lot of people desperate for sports. And guess what's going on??
Targeted or not, what sort of completely unaware dumbass ties a goddamn noose in a NASCAR garage, during ongoing racial protests? That noose doesn't look particularly weathered, and there isn't grease or anything on it that I can see, which makes me think it was tied pretty recently. Maybe this is just me being a suburban dad, but I can't fathom why anybody would tie something like that.
They did find out that it was tied during a race back in October. I'm assuming that was through time-stamped pictures?
Huh. If that's the case, my mistake. Anyway, given the imagery and history associated with a noose in the South, I think it's still a bad look. Glad it wasn't targeted though.
That's exactly the finding... it was put there months before anyone knew that Bubba was even going to be assigned that garage. That's why it was considered to not be a hate crime, as it was stupid and insensitive, not targeted.
https://www-wbtv-com.cdn.ampproject...rolina-speedway-owner-offers-bubba-rope-sale/ Damnit, I know this guy, kinda. He used to have the best prices on tires. He has some brain damage from a dirt track crash but I don't think that should excuse him from some good ol' internet mob justice. Hang'em high, internet.
I like how the guy who made the door pull is the idiot here. They used it for months, and then had to investigate what it was for. I don't get how you confuse what that is when it's hanging right off the door, but apparently it is something a lot of people would struggle with.
I don't think the investigation was about what the rope was literally "for." The rope is a garage door pull. I believe we are all in agreement about that. I believe that you can have an investigation into why an existing door pull's rope was fashioned into a hangman's knot. I'll admit that I haven't been reading piles upon piles of articles about this, but I don't see anything that is saying "after an extensive investigation, it was determined that the 'noose' in question was actually a garage door pull. These are common in garages across the nation." What I see is that "after an extensive investigation, it turns out that the hangman's knot on this rope was present long before Wallace was assigned this garage, and therefore is not a specific hate crime against him."
Nope it looks like a noose. There are about half a dozen loop knots tied in jute like that that would be almost indistinguishable from a hangmans noose (see bimini knots, non-slip loop knots, surgeons loop knot and so on). Now my issue has always been the break down in rational, is it really easier to assume, even in these racially charged times, even in an overly reactive situation in NASCAR that very week, someone intentionally tied a noose to fuck with him? When the story sounds just too perfect for the situation no one else gets that tingle somethings off? Had it been tied to the rafters where his car would be? Clear cut open and shut. The end of a rope pull tied into a noose? When rope pulls on garage doors are commonly tied into loops many of which look like nooses, even in these race tracks garages. The hair splitting, "not a single other hangman's noose found!"!!?!!!!" is face saving damage control for NASCAR who's narrative broke down after the FBI closed the case in less than 24 hours (as is the hollow "we'll find who ever did this and ban them for life!" line). No one there said, wait a minute now, lets not jump to conclusions here, lets think this thing out? Just straight to the media, twitter, and the fbi. Not a good look. Now another example. Now I wont call them retards because I have sympathy for their loss and understand mental illness is tough on people. But the black man found hanging form a tree in California. What the public and media ran with was well he must have been lynched and the police are complicit in covering it up! "Black people just don't hang themselves from trees" was the mantra. It's racially charged times it must be rageful racist backlashing and lynching people. Seems logical on its face right? The family at first publicly said they didn't trust the police, suicide was too convenient, there had to be more to it. Then the police showed them the direct video evidence of the guy hanging himself. Turns out the guy was homeless and the last few stays in jail was placed on suicide watch. Now I dont blame the family, a family suicide is traumatic for anyone. Everyone else just wanting this seemingly perfect example of pure American racism to be true and ignoring all rationality? That type of sentiment is dangerously retarded. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. It just annoys me when rationality is thrown out the window.
Yeah... we once rented out CMP (Carolina Motorsport Park) for a week to shake down a new race car we bought. That part of the country is.... special. Can't say I'm in a hurry to go back, at least from what I was exposed to.
The other thing is people seem to care way, way more about really rare racial murders than do other murders that happen 4000x more often. I do think with the history of this country the latter compared to 1 gang violence death is more alarming, but... the fact is if we somehow magically ended all racially motivated murders tomorrow the murder rate basically wouldn't move at all. It really is a little bit like people care about black lives, but only if it's a white person who takes them. If it's another black person then no one gives a shit. You can argue one is a more heinous crime than the other and you'd probably be right, but at the end of the day dead is dead.
Got any sources on your numbers there? Edit: After getting you rep I've accepted that you have no facts and are just making things up to get attention from the rest of us. Also calling me a retard in rep is a clever way for you to circle around Net's mandate I hope that works out for you.
like the whole thing with banning “assault rifles.” You know how many murders are actually committed with those? Less than 1%. Pistols are far and away the most common firearm used for murder (and especially suicide). But banning big scary black rifles gives the illusion of safety, so that makes people feel good. you think saying “black lives matters” matters to all the gangs committing black on black crime? Look at the stats. regardless, police brutality is a thing and needs to change. For profit jails are a thing, and need to change. Stereotyping is a thing, and we need to have discussions about it and all work together to try to fix it. But I agree with Kampf that addressing this shiny new thing isn’t really fixing the major issues that need to be addressed. I’m glad there’s a movement for reform. But we need to take a good hard look at what ACTUALLY needs to be reformed.
