My nephew posts stories like this on Facebook, literally every day. Shit like this and them shooting, harassing, detaining and otherwise trampling on people happens at a frightening rate. This type of story surprises me a little because one thing that was clear when I worked in corrections was that the budget was king. It was all about treating the inmates to save the budget. That's actually why the even had a medical staff on site. If they were in any way really sick the captain did everything he could to get them released or treated so their medical expenses wouldn't be on the jail's dime and they wouldn't have to deal with lawsuits like this.
Now this story is interesting, because TSA already has travel tips ready to go for transgender people (and everything else of course). It's not their fault you weren't aware of the rules. This does not appear to be TSA discrimination. TSA are miserable people who just want to keep shit moving without incident, but they do have jobs to do. Now as a minority, I'm well aware that sometimes you need to be prepared that people don't know how to handle your minority. If there is a process that streamline any issues one may have, there need to look into it. Especially since it's security screening just a few weeks after 9/11. Given how small the transgender population is, it's unfair expect people to be ready to handle that situation. This country still has problems handling race and basic homosexuality, let alone getting into the trans stuff yet. There needs to be some awareness on both sides. I've learned going through the scanners that I have to tell them I am NOT trying to sneak an anaconda in, no big deal, they're not discriminating, a heads up never hurt anyone. On the flip side of all of that, WHO THE FUCK ARE THESE PEOPLE WHO HAVE GONE 10+ YEARS WITHOUT GOING THROUGH ONE OF THESE SCANNERS? How is this shit still new to people? And the whole Obama thing...come on. 80% of the Obama play was world politics more than U.S. Politics. America wins whatever conflicts we have with Middle East nations (not the ISIS/AQ type) with a smile on the face, open right hand and left hand on a big gun. That was a move to show that we're not sitting here hating all people from the Middle East. That's how you win support from other countries and that's how you win support from those countries people. The side that wins is the side that responds to the death threats with "I don't hate you, I don't want to fight you, let's work this out." The other side becomes the bad guy and no nation wants to be the bad guy anymore.
The Middle East, because to me its all just one big country and all of the people that live there are interchangeable, is going to be awfully disappointed come November 2016.
You know what I mean,on a country by country basis, starting with Iran of those that have established governments and are not fans of the U.S. There is a large part of the U.S. population that thinks we're going to be better off constantly telling them "Fuck you, fuck off, we hate you", versus any other approach.
I do know what you mean, I was being sarcastic. But I still think they're going to be very disappointed next fall.
This was an isolated incident that isn't a huge issue. This on the other hand... http://www.nationalreview.com/artic...break-eggs-makes-no-omelet-kevin-d-williamson "What role did the TSA have in those “thwarted plots”? None, if we are talking about 9/11-style terror attacks. In 2012, TSA global strategies chief John Halinski was asked directly whether there had been a single arrest or detention on terrorism charges creditable to the implementation of whole-body scanners. He answered that there was not. A 2010 Government Accountability (ho, ho!) Office report found that the TSA’s $200 million “SPOT” program — a behavioral-detection system involving 3,000 officers trained to detect terrorists — detected no terrorists, and that it in fact failed to detect at least 16 people later involved in terrorism cases even as they traveled through the very U.S. airports that the program was policing. And on Monday, the acting chief of the TSA, Melvin Carraway, was transferred to a comfortable new sinecure (he’ll be at Homeland Security’s office of state and local law enforcement) after he successfully discovered the answer to a question that has puzzled White House watchers: What does it take to embarrass the Obama administration? In this case, it was revelations that 95 percent of explosives and weapons intentionally sent into the TSA apparatus for the purpose of testing its efficacy went undetected. Which is to say, when it comes to detecting bombs and guns, the TSA’s success rate was found to be approximately 5 percent. A chimpanzee taking the LSAT does better than that." 95% failure rate, we still have yet to make significant changes the TSA and we still spend 7 billion dollars on this government agency every year. Does anyone here know what qualifications you need to be a TSA agent?
Based on my own observational experience at the Atlanta, Denver and Philly airports, I believe the requirements are limited to being over 18 years old and having a pulse. The last one is negotiable, though, if your cousin is already working there and can hook you up. Like many of the screening techniques and the x-ray machines themselves, I don't think the whole-body scanners and back scatter machines are actually there to detect any threats. I think they're just there to make people think the threats could be detected, and therefore they will leave their shampoo in their checked luggage where it belongs.
Hmm really? Because the EU explicitly bans any body scanners that uses X-Ray technology cuz apparently they have laws in a few countries that state people should only be exposed to x-rays in a medical setting. So I believe the millimeter waves are strong enough to penetrate clothing, but not strong enough to see your insides. Thanks to that little nugget of info, I was confident enough to bring back a TON of hash from Amsterdam for personal enjoyment back in the States.
So a "millimeter wave" is what the amplitude and frequency of the scattered beam that is a byproduct of an actual penetrating x-ray beam. It has a lot less energy than a direct beam. Which is how it allows us to see things at very shallow depths. We also use backscatter xray to test railroad ties and determine their condition. Backscatter is what is reflected back from the object it is hitting. The reflected scatter is collected and an image is created, similar to how bats use sound waves to bounce back and determine their environment. They are very careful to use certain language and it might be a really small dose like that of a bone densitometer, but its still a dose.
Forgive me for further deviating from the conversation, but millimeter waves also fall onto the radio wave spectrum. From what I read further, the actual backscatter machines aren't actually used anymore in the EU because they do give an x-ray dose to the traveler. The newer millimeter wave machines use something that falls more into the type of wave emitted from a microwave. However, the EU has far stricter scanners than the US. We still allow use of backscatter machines. People are more concerned about their tiny penises being seen by some TSA agent with an 8th grade education than getting an unnecessary dose of x-ray. The lower the energy of the beam, the higher absorbed dose into the body. Mammography uses super low energy because it need to image soft tissue. Therefore the penetrating power of the beam is minimal and absorbed dose is huge. But the benefit of having a mammogram far outweighs the detriment of getting the dose.
And we patiently stand in line to let these people feel us up in order to board a flight. Then we pay them for the curtesy.
And some of you people laugh at me for driving everywhere I go. (granted, I don't leave the North American continent.)
Well, well, well... Ahmed’s Sister Admits School Suspension for Alleged Bomb Threat 3 Years Earlier http://www.breitbart.com/big-govern...spension-alleged-bomb-threat-3-years-earlier/ And as in Ahmed's case: Now, I'm not saying she actually did make the bomb threat. It is quite possible it was a case of He said/She said. But why didn't the parents fight it? Which brings us to current events and Ahmed's "Clock." If you are a Muslim father who's daughter has previously been suspended for a bomb threat and your son shows you his "Invention" that looks just like a Hollywood movie bomb that he plans to take to the same school district, do you let him? Or do you say "Uh, how about you take one of your other inventions? You know the ones that don't look quite so bomb-y?" Source: http://www.cnn.com/2015/09/16/us/texas-student-ahmed-muslim-clock-bomb/ A couple of interesting things about that quote: I thought Ahmed had said he threw his clock together the night before and if he did wake up with it he's lucky he hadn't shocked the shit out of himself trying to shut it off. And lastly, isn't it interesting how all the mechanism were in place for this "Unexpected" event. His sister just happened to be there to take a picture of him in handcuffs and the Anti-Islamphobia PR machine was all set to make it a national story within hours?
Bolding the headline is great and all, but that article was laughable. She claimed, and with no evidence either way, that she wasn't involved. But of course the article says she provided no proof that she didn't make a bomb threat. They want her to prove a negative. This is some real journalism right here. And the last paragraph is great too. Which ones? Are they referring to 9/11? Surely not, that would be stupid. They must mean since then, but when has this happened? He must consider all of the dead American soldiers fighting in unjust and unnecessary wars overseas against Muslim nations that had nothing to do with 9/11 to have been murdered.
The point is she WAS suspended, rightly or wrongly, of making a bomb threat. And then a few years later, the same father thinks it's a wonderful idea for his son to bring a device which could be mistaken as a bomb to school. A father who is a politician and an Islamic activist. It's all just a very convenient set of unrelated coincidences right?
Couldn't that all also be evidence that the school is being a racist against the Muslim family? Muslim girl does something- suspend her for bombs. Muslim boy makes clock- suspend him for bombs. That logic goes both ways.
Dude, it's Breitbart. Possibly the most notoriously disingenuous, biased, laughably inept "reporting" site out there. That crew makes Limbaugh look like Murrow. The last line says it all. See also: TownHall and about half of the Salon team. Edit: not that I wouldn't believe the story from a credible source. I just don't care about it. I'm more concerned that Justice Scalia is pissed off because he was thwarted interpreting the constitution according to his religious beliefs. Or how FL congresswoman is on record saying she wants to subvert the Democrat through gerrymandering her district to contain *8* prisons full of non-voters. Which might also be a huge civil issue subverting our Sunshine Laws which outlaws closed door meetings like the one in the article. Not to mention why there are 8 fucking prisons in one area of Jacksonville. That we want to expend energy focusing on some Muslim kid's dubious science project instead of what our elected officials do is both disturbing and telling.
