You ever try to get a passport? Jesus fucking Christ, the hassle, and that's as close as we get.

I like the "Real ID" concept where states can do whatever they want, but have to meet minimum standards for federal ID (and if you don't like it, get a fucking passport), and most states have alternatives that meet the Real ID standards. So, we're kind of already at that point, or almost at it, once the roll out is complete.

Oh, it's really not that bad. I'd never had a passport before when I got the opportunity to deliver my first yacht to a foreign port. I gathered the required documentation, got a photo, I drove to DC from Norfolk VA and got it same day. It cost an extra bit to expedite it like that.

What was your experience like when you got one?

I had to get a new TSA compliant (I can get on planes with it) drivers license yesterday. I had to bring the following documents with me: current drivers license, social security card, birth certificate, pay stub, w2 statement. It’s fucking ridiculous. I also had to pay $30.

The last time I got a passport I had to fill out a shit ton of paper work. Get pictures taken at a pharmacy. Copy of my birth certificate. Copy of my drivers license. I had to go through the process three times. Once they said my picture wasn’t good enough. Then when that was remedied they spelled my name wrong. I found this also to be ridiculous.

Yeah, I didn't run into any snags when I got mine. I left there thinking that the expenses, requirements and process were appropriate for something that lasts ten years. Mine expires soon, so we'll see how this next round with them goes.

    https://www.vice.com/en/article/y3gajy/porn-study-pornhub-xhamster-xvideos-sexual-violence-teens

"We found that one in eight titles shown to first-time users on the first page of mainstream porn sites describe sexual activity that constitutes sexual violence. Our findings raise serious questions about the extent of criminal material easily and freely available on mainstream pornography websites and the efficacy of current regulatory mechanisms."

"While they analysed the description and titles of the videos, they did not look into the content of the videos. "

For God's fucking sakes...., oh wait, there I go describing sexual activity that constitutes sexual violence.

I'm reminded of the Ralph Wiggums meme "I did a science...." followed by "...and I took a journalism on top of it."

Not me but this is a Reddit post from someone who moved to Georgia from Florida that wanted to get registered to vote.

Keep in mind this was before these new laws were put in place.

Vice is woke inmates running the woke asylum.

There is certain poetry to porn video names, as Patton Oswalt would put it, that transcends regular prose. I think the funniest and most apt title I’ve seen in years is “JUGS FOR WIENER HUGS” the series. Sure enough the videos were filled with ample bosomed women titty fucking in POV. For me the title conjures the warm sweet embrace and deep connection of a significant other on a cold winter night. So friendly, so caring, so endearing. Probably one of the seven titles in their research. Much nicer than the “Fat ass white girl fucks and sucks MY sperm.”

    https://www-newsweek-com.cdn.amppro...hite-lives-matter-april-11-nazi-rally-1582274

We have a white lives rally happening today about an hour and a half away from us. More in other cities across the country. That's upsetting.

It also looks like a good example of divisive reporting by the MSM. The Hill says the marches are being organized on facebook. The 'event' has only 18 shares, right now. 18 shares for a nationwide, multi-city event. 24 people interested and 4 morons say they already went.

It's almost like the MSM are trying to stir people up and get them in the streets fighting. Why don't they use their investigative skills and resources to track down the person that originally posted the event. Have that motherfucker explain to the world why it was posted.

How in the goddamn fuck do you draw a gun instead of a taser? How fucking stupid do you have to be? There is no world in which anybody that confuses the two should be allowed to carry either, and use them without thought of the consequences.

I hope that fucking dumbass gets catapulted into the nearest gator filled swamp.

    sadly it’s not uncommon

cops generally, though not always of course, holster their firearm on one side and taser on the other to avoid this. Issue is, if that taser is on your weak hand side, you generally switch it over to your strong hand to fire, costing seconds that could be the difference between life and death.

regardless, the potential for confusing a firearm with a taser in the heat of the moment — they’re both held and fired the same, after all — is my argument for why the “shootable” tasers should in no way resemble or be operated like a firearm. You simply cannot place someone in a lift or death situation during training, so they won’t know how they react until they are in that moment in real life. Train for muscle memory all you want, but when there’s a deadly threat, everyone responds differently, including making a mistake that would seem impossible to make under less critical circumstances. My personal opinion is to remove, or at least mitigate, all possibilities that a mistake can be made. Only thing that should look and work like a gun should be a gun.

Here’s what they need to do nation wide:

    1) Get rid of qualified immunity.
    2) Get rid of arbitration.
    3) Have all department lawsuits come from the collective police pension.

....do that, and things will improve drastically.

it would be interesting if they could license cops federally. You need a federal license to be a cop, and if you lose it in one jurisdiction you're fucked nationally. Also treat it like MD's where you need your own version of malpractice insurance.

no way the police unions would allow that. I completely agree with you, but no way it would happen logistically. I think as with a lot of professions, they’d get better candidates if they paid more, and the kinda person who wants to be a cop for (relatively) low pay but high job security isn’t necessarily the kind of person who makes an ideal cop. Sure, there’s exceptions to it and people who do it from a service and morality standpoint, but as of right now, I just think it’s kind of a self selecting group.

Anyone else uncomfortable with how often the police response to criticism is "well then we'll just refuse to do our jobs and let crime spike until you apologize"? I mean I know spousal abuse is super high among cops, but you didn't have to print out a textbook example of an abusive paradigm and deliver it to the comment section of this news article.

Our country is huge, weirdly populated, and there's a tremendous gap between the federal government and state government.

One of the biggest rational arguments for 2nd Amendment laws is that police are far away. I don't see a license to be a cop as anything more than a hassle that creates a shortage, not to mention the arguments against it from a state's rights/local preeminence perspective.

I think a solution could be: "no body cam? You get investigated for manslaughter by the feds", and some sort of federal database around police misconduct that travels. The issue isn't a lack of accountability, it's that ok, you fire the guy and they just switch towns. The strong argument the police unions have is: this is their profession, and their livelihood.
