There was a shooting and protest in Columbus, OH tonight. The narrative is a 15 year old honor student called the police because she was in a fight and grabbed a knife. The police showed up and just shot her for no reason. The body cam shows her actively trying to stab someone. Body cam footage here.
Yea same. The honor student shit is a nice cover story. But if you’re wielding a deadly weapon and are trying to use it, that’s the ballgame.
Unfortunately, the facts don't matter to the mob. That cop quite possibly saved at least one black life, but that doesn't fit their narrative. There's thousands of people protesting in downtown Columbus screaming about the cops killing black babies.
And the chat on that stream you linked for it is some of the most vile shit I’ve ever seen. “Hippity hoppity you used to be property” and “legalize black on black murder” and... people are seriously fucked up. The people cheering on those stupid fuckers protesting a cop saving lives, are just as dumb as the ones actually yelling her age (differs depending on the chant) in the street.
I don't even look at the chat or pay attention to the drunk "Host", they're all morons. I just use what I can find for streams.
I am liking this pattern of local governments releasing body cam footage right away. More transparency, greater trust. Avoids the default assumption of "In six months some journalist is going to file a FOIA request for the footage and discover that the police report was entirely lies."
If you've ever doubted that social media was a mistake, look up #makiyahbryant on twitter. Politicians, artists, all manner of blue checks and regular accounts regurgitating the initial narrative even after the video has been released, some even claiming to have seen the video and stating the facts completely wrong.
Yesterday, after tee-ball, I saw a kid walking around with a big damn butcher knife covered with blood. I called to him and asked him what he had, he bent the knife showing me that it was fake. That thing looked fucking real, very real until I got within a few feet of him. What kind of parent lets there kid carry that in public? Am I overreacting by thinking that kid shouldn't have brought that to a ballpark?
Don’t know. But you should probably read the newspaper this morning, to see if the police killed him or not.
we can’t ignore that it was also some damn fine shooting by the officer to be able to hit her and not the victim of the assault. Sure, close range, large (heh) target. The officer was still under massive stress and the stupid fucker with the knife was moving. If he didn’t get there that instant and put her down, she would have put down the rest of that group. this should be celebrated as a great quick reaction by an officer in order to prevent a brutal attack
Hard to gauge with the competing emotional narratives this close to the event. Supposedly the girl who got shot with the knife was the one who called police because she was being attacked by the others. She was “defending herself “ with the knife when the cop rolled up. This is all speculation I’ve seen on social media so I’m taking with a grain of salt.
Just watched the footage, both the regular speed and slow motion. That cop did what was right as far as I can see. 15 or 50, you're swinging a knife at people in front of a cop, you're gonna get shot. Of course in the court of public opinion and the current mood, I doubt logic will matter.
If the speculation that Kubla wrote is what happened, then if she called the cops to ask for help, I wish she would have let them do their job when they arrived, instead of going all stabby stab. What a shame. Even if the cop was justified, now the cop has to live with it. Regardless of what the media may tell you, I don't think cops just like killing people.
I think that a lot of people need to see (observe, educate themselves about) a real knife attack in their lives. The articles I’ve read say a lot about the victim “appearing to hold a knife.” I also think a majority of people think of a knife fight as two dudes in fly-ass jackets swiping weakly at each other before Michael Jackson steps in to teach them tolerance and understanding while Eddie Van Halen and Steve Lukather shred like motherfuckers. It’s not just slashing and threatening, it can be a quick jab-jab-poke-poke-poke and you’re bleeding out. I’ve also seen some people downplaying it because “it appeared to be just a simple kitchen knife.” So? I can’t be the only person who has a designated “kitchen knife I’m grabbing if there’s somebody in my house.” Sharp knife = sharp knife. Now...I have also seen some alleged video of the cops guarding the crime scene, and one of them shouting “blue lives matter.” Just....shut the fuck up. Maybe years of retail work have made me so scared of voicing an opinion in public for fear of pissing off the wrong person and affecting my livelihood, but people do not NEED to voice their opinions, and should learn when the fuck not to.
