If the following facts are true: She did call police because she was being assaulted by others Her use of a knife could be justified as a valid self-defense claim The police shot her because of said use of knife I wonder if that could lead to felony murder charges on the girls who initially attacked her.
Knowing the cops are on the way, the last thing any logical person would do is grab a weapon. Taking away the reported context, a cop rolling up seeing someone swinging by a knife isn’t going to be given any choice in the matter: deadly force is applied to save the lives of others.
Possibly. There’s a lot to prove for the prosecution in this case, but in general, yes they could be charged with murder, underlying criminal act being the felony of assault. If you knowingly commit a felony, and in the course of committing that felony someone is murdered, then you get hit with murder for the states that have adopted a felony-murder statute. Classic example case is a convenience store robbery gone wrong where the clerk gets shot and the getaway driver gets charged with murder, even though he didn’t pull the trigger. Or at least they could charge with attempted murder for the assault, if based upon these facts, where she responded with deadly force, to the deadly force presumably being applied to her.
So basically it's the word of the alleged perpetrators, plus the bodycam video that shows nothing but the imminent stabbing, versus the 911 call and witness testimony that she in fact was only defending herself. I really, really wish she hadn't taken matters into her own hands.
I really wish she hadn't either. What a shame. I've seen several news articles that indicate additional bodycam footage was released, but I haven't seen that footage posted anywhere.
What that means is it doesn't show anything the media can sensationalize or otherwise shape into a narrative besides it being a justified shooting.
Bingo. I fucking hate the MSM. Get rid of them and social media and we'd be a fuck of a lot better off.
Same video. CNN headline says something like "Ohio Cops Shoot and Kill Teenage Girl" and Fox News headline something like "Police Stop Knife-weilding Attacker" Both are true, but aren't fair, imo, because this incident is so much more nuanced than that.
If the police had arrived one minute later this would've just been another case of black on black violence/possibly murder and no one outside of the immediate families would give a shit. Last week in Chicago a 7 year old girl was gunned down in gang violence and there was barely any news and there certainly weren't any protests. She will be quickly forgotten, but the one actively attempting murder has already been lionized through media manipulation. That's pretty messed up.
“Police Shooting. Investigation underway.” ...that’s how they used to say it, and it cut the sandwich corner-to-corner. This is another example how releasing bodycam footage ASAP was the right thing to do (it should be that way, period). It’s hard to doubt the perspective of the cop here, I certainly wouldn’t charge him.
And yet, Lebron James posted a picture of the police officer that did the shooting, with the phrase "You're next" for his millions of Twitter followers to see. Good thing no one is out there inciting unrest.
that was nothing less than a call for violence. I don’t buy it as he was “wanting to hold them accountable” (for something he didn’t do, at least as is apparent currently). If a non-star did it — say, a Meyers Leonard — they’d be blackballed out of the league
The exact words of the tweet were "you're next (emoji) accountability". His meaning seems obvious to me but if people want to run with the first half and call it a threat, whatever.
He posted those words with a picture of the police officer that did the shooting. You don't think that officer and his family are now impacted by that when Lebron has 50 million followers? Speaking of accountability . . .
My bad. I thought it just said “you’re next.” So I no longer think it was a direct call for physical violence, though I do still think that the officer could and likely should be scared given the lebron’s fame and people taking his words and running with it. Out of however many millions of followers, possibly billions that have now seen that, it only takes one crazy... the obvious comparison is to trump with his tweets that targeted individuals, how a normal person would know it’s the rants of a crazy person, but a crazy person would take it as an edict from their idol. If I was that cop, I’d be lawyering up and keeping track of any extra expenditures related to personal and family security. And politically, I largely generally agree with lebron. In this case, fuck him though.
BLM's latest martyr's last words were captured on a neighbor's security camera. They were "I'm gonna stab the fuck out of you." Maybe they can put that on the 100 or so murals they'll dedicate to her. Video here.
To be fair, if I was having to resort to self defense with a fucking kitchen knife, I’m pretty sure I’d yell something cool like “stab her by the pussy!” or just making stabby noises. Also please tell me the cop said “I’m gonna shoot the fuck out of you!” Which may or may not be something I’ve actually said to armadillos in my yard.
