I don't know the entire history of the Israel-Palestine conflict, but I do know that criticizing bad behavior doesn't make you anti-Semitic. This is a quote from a story from The Guardian, reporting on the conflict over the weekend. Israeli settlement ruling delayed as Jerusalem tensions run high | Israel | The Guardian I don't know about you folks, but this looks a lot like white people displacing natives from their lands. An act that we have no problem calling genocidal today. Obviously, Israelis aren't giving Palestinians small pox infected blankets, but they're using their laws to displace people from their homes without any kind of redress. Imagine having to live with the fear of having your home taken from you without any legal recourse. Then you get to see the home that had been in your family for generations given to someone who belongs to a group of people that hate you. I don't blame Palestinians one iota for being pissed about this.
This is a serious thread... so let's be serious. And respectful. KI, you've been banned once from here, please don't make it happen again. Crown, stop with the pointed shit talking. If you can't get along, then just leave each other alone. If you can't figure out how to do that yourselves, then we'll step in and do it for you. It's a shitty situation going on, and I don't pretend to understand it, but as far as I'm concerned, from what little I know about it, there is no justification to bomb the fuck out of civilians like they are doing. Period. If your religion justifies that, then I think your religion sucks. Can't we all just get along?
Abraham is traced back as the father of three major religions: Judaism, Christianity and Islam. His wife couldn't have children, so according to the Bible . . . From Genesis 16: Then Abraham's wife Sarah gave birth to Isaac later. Muhammad is descended from Ishmael, Jesus is descended from Isaac. I'm not saying the Bible is a historical document, or that any religion justifies bombing anyone. But, as far back as when they were telling the stories that became Genesis written down, the peoples involved have been at odds. To think white people can fix it now is silly.
Shit like this makes me think what was worse the 2020 covid lockdowns or returning “back to normal?” Forgot how much normal sucked too.
At first, Britain started shit up in that part of the world to make life difficult for Germany and her allies (the Ottoman Empire in particular) during WWI by opening up another front to divert German troops from the Western Front. Then people discovered oil was going to be a huge national security priority as fuel needs were increasing, especially in the run up to WWII. Up to that point, Britain was the greatest navy in the world, and it's really hard to have the greatest navy in the world if you can't fuel it. After the war, sticking a bunch of people who believe they were saved from extermination by you and your allies in an oil rich area was just good long term strategic thinking.
Pretty much. The British and the French discovered oil before the remnants of the Ottoman Empire did and carved up the area accordingly. If it was the other way around, the Middle East would be very different today. The British helping a small nomadic tribe with the last name of "Saud" take over a large chunk of the region and name it after themselves didn't help anything either.
The Dome of the Rock and its foundation stone are nothing more than the birthplace of schizophrenia. It’s existence is justified by an ocean of blood flowing under a bunch of idiots killing each other over supernatural fables that were written in the Bronze Age. The goofiest real estate dispute of all time. It’s pretty incredible how Jerusalem has all these religious miracles occurring within such a small area as compared to the rest of the world. It contains the Lost Ark/Holy of Holies, Jesus’ grave, the spot where Muhammad rode a horse into outer space (which was ALSO on the Temple Mount, of course), The Mosque of Omar, The Mosque of the Phantasm, and the ice cream parlour where Abraham took Isaac after trolling him about slitting his throat. Jerusalem is a mecca of a city.
I'm very curious; what exactly did I post that you find objectionable or neither "serious" nor "respectful"? I believe I responded remarkably respectfully and factually to an anti-Semite celebrating hundreds of rockets being launched unprovoked at civilians that killed Jewish kids as "fuck them, and they had it coming!". Far moreso than Crown Royal's own ad hominem-laden reponses. So please enlighten me; what is your specific issue with either of my posts on the last page? This is an impressive collection of blood libels, with the last one about nukes (which never happened) being on par with Jews poisoning wells and using Christian blood to make matzah. But as with the magic "Palestinian genocide" that has resulted in a population growing over 5 times in the course of 70 years, it's very easy to debunk as the vile lies they are. For instance, is any country in Europe a "race-based ethno-state"? Because demographically, they're far more homogenous and exclusionary than Israel is. Israel is only about 74% Jewish and 18% Muslim. It's actually even more diverse than that too, since Jews in Israel are an almost equal mix of Askhenazi (European) Jews, who look more like white Europeans, as well as Mizrahi (Arab) Jews, who look more like...Arabs. Over half the Jews in Israel have some Mizrahi blood. By contrast, France, one of the more diverse countries in Europe, with the largest per capita Muslim population, is 88% French and about 8% Muslim. The tremendously diverse United Kingdom, with all its immigration...was still 87% white in 2011. Less open European countries, like Poland, are an impressive 97% Polish. Yet, it's a funny thing; I've never heard of France, the UK, or Poland ever refered to as "race-based ethno-states". Only the far more diverse, heterogenous country with a lot of Jews... But of course, a dialectic involving facts, figures, and history is unlikely to convince anyone subscribing to the rhetoric of "Jews are treacherous and evil!".
Your opening line was all I had to pull: "Yes, equating Jewish victims of terror with the terrorists who have stated their goal is to wipe out every Jew on the planet (literally the Hamas charter) makes you a fair-minded, rational person." If you can't see that talking shit to a specific person rather than discussing the topic at hand isn't respectful, then I don't know what to say. Your statement is condescending, sarcastic, and antagonizing. Stop it.
One of the more interesting takes I have seen on this is the value of the land and its topography from a military perspective. The analogy was along the lines of the Cuban missile crisis, when we could have just occupied Cuba and ensured there was nowhere to place those rockets that make such good television. In short, the strategic value of the land being occupied and the absolute lack of trust between the two parties ensures conflict, and.while Israel is the stronger of the two, and they are taking the land, might as well take more than just the minimum needed for security....
To be fair, the Palestinians weren’t getting statehood under Arab control either. If the Jews hadn’t won in 1960, Jordan would have the West Bank, Egypt would control Gaza and the rest would belong to Syria. Based on their history, Egypt controlling the region may have been an even worse scenario for the Palestinians than Israel.
This is literally what Crown Royal wrote and argued. Am I supposed to pretend he wrote something different than he actually did? I understand you probably like him from years of interaction whereas your few posts towards me have been substantially worse than "condescending, sarcastic, and antagonizing", but this is the worst example you could come up with. Sarcasm is against the rules now? Yeah, the board has changed over the years. And I wonder; would you be peachy-nice if a guy came along celebrating Canadian kids being killed with rockets, and stating that Canadians are no better than the group who wants to exterminate every Canadian off the face of the Earth, including those living abroad? Considering that in the link above you were cursing and shit-talking me for daring to contribute my thoughts to an old topic and then threatened to ban me when I laughed it off, I'm going to guess "no". I understand you're an administrator, so you can do whatever the fuck you want. The rules don't apply to you. But condescendingly lecturing me and theatening to ban me for daring to disagree in less than perfect civility, including my use of sarcasm, with an anti-Semite celebrating the death of Jewish kids torn apart by rockets is really, really low. And something I wouldn't have expected from you. And no need to continually threaten me with a ban. I will gladly leave if this is how you want your board to be.
FYI, KiMaster2 is now banned permanently. Crown, you got off lucky... keep it civil. If anyone is wondering why I banned him, it's because he refused to acknowledge his pointed attacks at people, never mind do something about it. I'm not here to argue with someone like they're an obtuse 7 year old moron, despite the big words and walls of text comments. If anyone has any issues with that, or think I acted out of line, please feel free to DM me.
I apologize for the ad hominem, and I know it was the wrong thread for it. It was directed strictly at that person because they have gone after board members in real life, and I have had a lingering furor towards that since he used to be here years ago. People on here need to know that about him. It was wisely predicted to me in PM that he would soon would be banned, and he was. I will end it at that.
Appreciate it, and understood, which is why you didn't get banned as well... I get it. I tried to work with him to change things, but it didn't work out. C'est la vie.
Auschwitz: Inside the Nazi State . Understanding Auschwitz Today . Origins | PBS If this conflict escalated to an all-out war, it would be more of a surprise if Israel didn't carry out the extermination of Palestinians. That link I posted to the Guardian article today reported that Palestinians don't have any legal rights to having their homes taken from them. I mean, I don't live there, but I can't imagine this isn't the only oppressive law Israel has passed that's designed to fuck with Palestinians.
This has to be terrifying as hell: Hamas fires wave after wave of rockets at Askelon to overwhelm Iron Dome defense system.
