We haven’t had a good riot in a while. 40 hours of community service sounds about right.

still has a federal case too.

like I told my wife, every single day he spends in there is gonna be a hell unlike any other inmate. He’s gonna go to sleep each night worrying if that’s the time someone pays off a guard and suicides him. He’s gonna walk around wondering if that’s the day the guards decide to look the other way and let him get roughed up. Solitary confinement, protective custody. Dude will WISH he got the death penalty.

Yeah, they are going to PC him the second he arrives and he will be more protected than any prisoner because of the high profile nature. Automatically if you are high profile or celebrity you are put in isolation for your entire prison term. No cell mate, no shared yard, rarely you have human contact at all. Hopefully a guard will give him the good ol’ Jeffrey Dahmer “Oops I left the door unlocked” slip-up.

Personally I would think a murderer who has not shown the slightest shred of remorse whatsoever would get more than 22 years for willingly murdering somebody in cold blood in front of citizens on camera, but that’s what wearing a badge gets you.

It’s nothing short of a miracle that he’s even going to jail at all.

Welcome to the actual state of "infrastructure".

The fucked up part is Florida was held as a model for emphasizing resilience in their building codes.

FEMA is supporting this event, which makes sense from the perspective of: the state of Florida probably doesn't have the kind of specialists, engineers, etc. on standby to handle this kind of thing. However, I'm kind of annoyed we had to stand up a full spectrum event for this: the entire Goddamned state of Florida can't provide shelter for these folks? For real? No one is donating anything for less than 1000 people, and the federal government money is absolutely necessary? No one here had insurance? The only rationale for this is "swing state" and "COVID tapped their resources". Fuck Florida.

It seems like states like Florida and Texas tend to take bets on the probability of something bad happening and how much money they throw at something. If it seems relatively unlikely, nothing gets done.

After the big freeze here in February, our failing power grid had its problems exposed. Instead of actually doing something, our governor decided to pass the most restrictive abortion laws in the country and and use emergency funds to pay for his own border wall. Then with the heat wave we had here, we had rolling blackouts again. As usual, nothing got done and no one gives a shit. When a billion federal dollars was being divvied up for flood mitigation, Houston got zero dollars. It just seems like punitive measures against liberals is more important than taking care of the constituents.

All states place those bets, and the federal government backs them when they go belly up. No issues there.

However, when those states go to the feds because they claim they can't afford to shelter less than 1000 people, in fucking Dade county....

Texas is probably the worst offender of the "help us please, we can't handle this, but don't listen to the news when we shit-talk you." It sets off alarm bells when local officials must posture like they don't really need federal assistance, when they clearly and desperately do. It feels like their default is dishonesty, when the reality is they might just be fucking retarded. You never know....

I swear to God this is a real alert that popped up on my phone. And clicking thru led me to a bunch of new condo listings, some only a few blocks from the collapse. Sellers are very motivated. Good luck to them. Maybe those Chinese cash buyers will do them a favor, park their money in some *very insured* real estate.

“Might”? You know better than I who that state elects down there to “lead” them: an absolute retard cavalcade. The first two words that come to mind when I think of Texas are “Bloodthirsty and Dim”. Around here their voting choices are a laughing stock to approximately 100% of the population, they live in a bubble where it isn’t stupid to fill a football stadium to pray away a searing drought. There is NOTHING dumb about that in their world. And the the results worked out so well, to boot.
