The constant, CONSTANT mudslinging and attack ads on Trudeau for the past three straight years sunk the world for Harper. No platform, no advertising how you make things BETTER, just "Don't vote for the guy who looks like James McAvoy, he's too young." That, partnered with Harper's recent outspoken bigotry, attitude towards soft drugs (you could do more time in jail for having six pot plants than molesting a child) not to mention that glorious clusterfuck of a senate scandal-- people had enough of the sneering megalomaniac. Trudeau has a lot of promises to keep, and his party animal of a dad was one of the most loved of all Prime Ministers making him a tough name to live up to. I guess we'll just have to see how it goes.
And yes, we're all racist shitbags. Texas 'clock kid' Ahmed Mohamed to move with family to Qatar, father says http://www.foxnews.com/us/2015/10/2...ith-family-to-qatar-father-says/?intcmp=hpbt3 I wonder how he'd be treated in a country that is always on the alert for terrorist activities if he took his clock to a school there?
Not just discriminated against, but treated like they are disposable: http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2015/05/27/world-cup-slaves-it-gets-worse.html I hope they enjoy their stay.
FTFY I don't know the economic status of his family, but if his father is going there as a fairly well compensated ex-pat, things will be lovely.
It will have interesting-looking anything, since they chose their building methods by watching the Spartans stack a wall in 300. There haven't been this percentage of dead people mixed into the foundations since the Hoover Dam.
They also openly admit they're going to run deficits for the next couple of years in order to put some cash flow into our crumbling infrastructure. I admire that kind of risky statement, and I actually believe that Trudeau is a man of his word. Now, what I'd really like him to do is work alongside Elizabeth May. She's a powerhouse and Canada would really benefit from her input, if only she could get a little respect and attention.
My only problem is that the Liberals don't think anyone exists outside of Ontario/Quebec so us guys out west will not see a whole lot of that money. Yea, pretty nice to see someone other then the 3 main parties get elected, and 2nd time running too
This isn't serious, right? You meant this as a, "hee hee, <crazy supposition> could be true. It's not really, but wouldn't it be funny if it were?"
They are one of the quietest yet highly prolific sponsors of terrorist organizations too. Not mention the egregious human rights violations. They are also one of the wealthiest countries in the world per capita because of the 50 years worth of natural gas they are sitting on. The people there have nothing but money and zero education.
I'm not picking on you, but what exactly is a 'terrorist organization?' The word 'terrorist' gets bandied about quite a bit, and last time I checked, the US Government has at least 6 different definitions of what a terrorist is. My concern - which has been borne out by the evidence over the last decade - is you can't fight an idea with guns. It's especially tricky when you don't define what the enemy is - beyond some notion of a bad guy - and since we can't win against an unidentified enemy, the war on terror strikes me as nothing more than increased defense spending and the erosion of our rights.
As we're struggling with gun crime (8 people have been killed in shootings in the Twin Cities this past week, what the fuck), stuff like this makes zero sense to me: Few gun offenders draw minimum sentences. It sounds like there's a similar story in Chicago too. Why aren't we keeping those most prone to gun crime locked up?
The officer shot in NYC yesterday? Felon with a gun. Also yesterday a New Mexico officer was shot and is in critical condition. Felon with a gun. While in Kentucky on Monday an officer was shot by...what do you know...a convicted felon with a gun. Perhaps instead of screaming for more laws, people should be screaming that current laws are actually enforced.
Here's a bit more on the NYC cop shooter. Apparently he was let out of jail early and into a "Drug Treatment Program" as a non-violent drug offender. Just like the 6000+ felons who will be released next week. http://www.foxnews.com/us/2015/10/2...er-described-as-career-criminal/?intcmp=hpbt2
Here's a more thorough article to read. "Our analysis of sentencing data provided by the Minnesota Sentencing Guidelines Commission reveals in gun cases across all of Minnesota, judges give less than the mandatory minimum sentence 53% of the time." I agree, to me it just undermines the whole point of stiff penalties... and whether it's the prosecutors or judges it still needs to be resolved.
... In other news, it seems that the infinitely punchable Martin Shkreli (the man who raised the price of toxoplasmosis medicine from $13.50 to $750 per pill) is backing down... a little. http://money.cnn.com/2015/09/22/investing/daraprim-aids-drug-price/ Also, he's mad at Bernie Sanders for rejecting his PALTRY donation attempt of $2,700. http://money.cnn.com/2015/10/16/news/companies/sanders-drug-ceo-shkreli-donation/?iid=EL Sanders said that he'd donate the same amount to charity. Doesn't this Shkreli shithead know how things work in this country? You can't buy a potential presidential candidate for that kind of money! You've gotta shell-out, invest, and once that person gets into office, that's when you clean up. What a fucking shit-heel. If you've got to pay $5,000 a plate to be a NOBODY at a presidential campaign dinner, what the the fuck did Shkreli think he was going to get with $2,700?
So we should be lax on people who use guns in commission of a crime? That's not selling dime bags of mexican weed to your apartment complex.
This isn't about the penalties alone, it's about enforcing them when we can. I agree with Kubla too... this isn't like weed (which should be decriminalized)- these are the really dangerous and violent people that pose a threat to society.
