I’m still wrapping my head around the actions of these two: you anticipated your kid committing a school shooting, basically ALLOWED him to do it, he gets arrested and you abandon him —your child— and go on the run as fugitives to what, camp out in a building for the rest of your lives? This is like an American Dad episode come to life. These people are going to be made an example of like none other. It just depends on which mob nails them the hardest.
I think they ought to charge the kid as a minor and really focus on sticking charges to the parents. This would not have happened if not for their actions. It seems to me like it would be easier to pin higher charges on them if the kid was charged as a minor for his involvement. He needed help, guidance and proper parenting, not a new pistol to call his own.
Right or wrong, if you shoot up a school with fatalities and survive to trial, you're getting tried as an adult and getting the book thrown at you.

Look, I don't want to defend the guy, but that comment is pretty ignorant. Calling him a "mechanical engineer" is a gross simplification. He and his wife both graduated from MIT after growing up in Kentucky. They developed a 3-D robotic haptic feedback system while in college which they later sold for millions. Also, who actually designs weapons for the military to use? Engineers, not soldiers. He's definitely not looking for a "suburban status symbol" since his living arrangement is far removed from suburbia - 1200 acres in rural Kentucky off the grid. This is all stuff I learned in 5 minutes of who-the-hell-is-this-Massie-guy Googling.
