So immediately after the shooting in the NYC subway yesterday, Twitter jumped to conclusions and made all kinds of assumptions about the shooter. He must be a white supremacist, said the left. He's probably black, said the right. Turns out yes.
Because clearly, of all the countless things that would make someone shoot up a subway, race is the only one that matters to anyone.
He's actually one of my favorites because he asks open ended questions and lets people talk. He goes to areas that are relevant to current events or cultural phenomenon. I think he is ballsy as fuck for going there for this and shows that he actually cares about journalism and diving into these events.
Seeing the civilian bodies in the streets, and the mass graves, I can't help but wonder: At what point does the rest of the world say, "Enough is enough" and take military action? I mean, we've gone to war for far less than this it seems.
The world's largest nuclear arsenal effectively says "never". We may see Russia isolate itself into North Korean status, but boots on the ground? Not a chance. Even the isolation thing has an expiration date, because Russia needs someone to buy their commodities, and they really seemed to like being part of the international community as it pertains to trade. It's sending a terrible message to any wannabe dictator: All you need is nukes, and you can freely commit genocide. But that's seems to be the reality. We're in uncharted territory here. I can see there being an international response if they made moves towards Poland or Finland, but....highly unlikely.
They re-aired the Chernobyl doc on Science channel last night. At the end, they had added new epilogue text, something like "In February 2022, Russia invaded Ukraine and seized control of Chernobyl. The records sealed on site by the KGB remain undisturbed." Then, "In March 2022, Ukraine retook control of Chernobyl."
From what I understand, Tesla is the main thrust of his wealth, and it's WILDLY overvalued, something like 10x the market cap of GM, Toyota, Ford, etc. He has good sense that a recession's coming, and his wealth may be part of that "correction". Using Twitter to steer business in his direction is something he's gotten remarkably good at, and if he's figuring a lot of the value of his stock is about to evaporate anyway..... But, fuck Twitter. It's only a matter of time before it collapses into the spam-bot riddle shit pile of history.
I have seen speculation that is just another one of his market manipulations ploys to pump up the value of his recent twitter investment and allow him to unload it at a nice premium. with this quote making it seem like a reasonable possibility
It has been fun watching Robert Reich spin himself in knots embarrassing himself trying to explain it all.
