Anonymous does not care about their collateral damage. They have no leader, no meetings, no faction. They are, in fact, separated people who identify as "Anonymous" but really are individuals who are keyboard warriors that fancy themselves vigilantes. And they do get shit wrong. And they don't care when they do because the person who fucked up cannot be identified. I guarantee only one out of twenty of them had even heard of Guy Fawkes before V For Vendetta was released.
You couldn't be more right. I am sick to my fucking stomach see young people spending their time talking about Cam Newton, McDonald's, internet people, and Rachel fucking Dolezal when there are real issues out there. And no offense, but I can not believe that we are talking about anything except strokes and Ischaemic heart disease. I MIGHT accept lower respiratory infection, if we touched on it briefly, but otherwise we should stick to the real issues like how "As a white male, if I ever started to care about this touchy-feely nonsense regarding gender, sexuality, race, etc., I would feel as though I am being singled out as the catalysts to everyone else's problems."
Whatever, dude. If you don't like what I have to say or how I say it, feel free to throw me out or ignore it. I know you and I are not going to agree on much but that last post was exactly that, A new topic: Wasted breath, wasted energy of youth, the real drivers of change around the world. Our youth today appear neutered compared to those of the 60s and 70s or youth in other parts of the world, arguing for safe space and looking to curtail free speech due to perceived "micro-aggressions". Seriously, look at the Arab Spring, now look at what the SJWs and other like-aged individuals are arguing about today. The youth of America helped end the Vietnam war in the 70s, what are they really accomplishing today? Here's another good example: While everyone is arguing over firearms or trannies in bathrooms, the Government is trying to pass this: http://www.forbes.com/sites/johnbrinkley/2015/11/06/tpp-now-comes-the-fun-part/ Firearms, specifically ARs, impact how many lives a year in this country? Several thousand at most? This Bill, which was negotiated in secret and has not been fully released for review but will pass anyway under a really quick vote, will impact a huge percentage of the world's economy. NAFTA worked out so well for the American working class, this Bill will be further bad news to manufacturing and other industries in this country. Priorities. It's all priorities. I guess if your priority is the social standard of a few, over the economic standard of many, then we will never see eye-to-eye.
Did you actually read my post? I didn't pass any judgement whatsoever on the topics involved. Here, let me repeat myself: this thread is for discussing serious topics. If you'd like to engage in a conversation, feel free to open a dialog. That's what this thread is for. This thread is not for shitting on topics that others would like to discuss. I don't care even a little bit whether you think the rights of minorities are important. But if others do think they're important, and do wish to discuss them, they're welcome to use this thread to do that and don't need your scorn. The fact that you get to discuss whether ARs are allowed in the country and then say #checkyourprivilege is laughable. You're massively privileged to even discuss this compared with a huge portion of the world. Should we all talk about nothing but world hunger, clean water and AIDS, or can you just accept that some areas of discussion impact more people than others, but they can all be treated with some dignity?
Or that people were making nonsensical blanket statements. We've had several white males responding here on this site, on every side of this issue. We don't have one poster who can explain the transsexual position from personal experience. At best a couple posters who have met some. But this isn't a white male issue, unless you want to attack somebody to make it that issue. If you asked a transsexual where their problems stem from, I'm a bit skeptical that the answer would be "Just the white guys." As for the trans bathroom issue I do think at least the question of a federally mandated law making it illegal to fire people based on sexual orientation is far more important. What bathroom a transsexual can use is somewhat trivial, but more importantly impossible to enforce across society. Let each institution continue to resolve that on their own and see what facilities they have to accommodate. I don't get why a tranny guy in the girls bathroom is so scary though. Weird, I'll grant you, but it's all stalls. Is this really that different than your other sex roommate standing outside the bathroom door? Peeking into them is kind of unacceptable even if you're the same gender. Creeper harassers aren't going to be discouraged by the 'ladies only' sign anyway.
As much as I despise generational discourse, this seems to be the one area where millennials are utterly intolerant. It has negative effects for things like comedy (Jerry Seinfeld, one of the tamest comedians I know of said colleges are too pc) and honest and open discourse about where there is potential middle ground on issues like transgender-friendly policies, gender equality, etc. I do think this is the left wing part of the outrage machine (see Trump and Starbucks is ruining Christmas with their Satanic cups for the right wing) that is allowing for massive fucking over on issues that carry real weight like economics, rights, etc. More people are talking about an awkward locker room than historic levels of poverty and a trade deal negotiated in secret. Who ever is putting this shit on the news is winning at society's expense.
I can play devil's advocate a bit. People who don't understand, are intolerant for whatever reason, get shouted down over transexual issues because it is so inherently ridiculous. Transexuals are clinically proven to be docile whose only crimes are substance abuse related. Just a couple days ago a woman in TN pulled a gun on a guy asking for a lighter because he was black and she was terrified of him. Same idea. Would you do anything but laugh at this woman? Why should they not get ridiculed for an absolutely baseless feeling because they insist on clinging to prejudice. How do you even reason with that? However, you're right. The helicopter parent generation is coming of age now. And this is what we get. Ignorant discourse instead of discussion, regardless of who is in the "right." Only their precious opinions matter. A student reporter for ESPN was trying to cover a racial awareness protest on University of Missouri grounds, but the student protesters actually barred him from doing his job. The idea that the same freedom of press that allows them to protest, protects this guy's right to cover it is completely lost on them. On a university campus no less. To me, that is possibly one of the most disgusting things an American can do; completely undermines EVERYTHING. Your forefathers fucking DIED for this right. As for the media proliferating certain stories in lieu of harder news, it's because it is easy. And you watch it. Keyword "watch." It's easy to absorb, it's easy to rile a viewer up. If they reported on how horrible Congress is, people would get sick of it and that would be that, because there is no controversy. Boom, that story is done and they have to scramble to fill another 23 hours. But make no mistake, the hard news is reported, just nowhere near as much as opinionated, divisive hot button issues. More importantly, these stories are ubiquitous in PRINT. "Left Wing" print is screaming bloody murder about the real issues. Stop watching the news. Tell them their narrative is bullshit. Slowly people are grasping corporate news outlets are doing a disservice to the public. Their ratings drop yearly. Slowly, but the ratings do drop.
"A student reporter for ESPN was trying to cover a racial awareness protest on University of Missouri grounds, but the student protesters actually barred him from doing his job." "Stop watching the news. Tell them their narrative is bullshit." Those two things are not unconnected.
Never seen that video in full. They sound like a bunch of children yelling "get off my property my dad's a lawyer!"
"While cases of hateful and hurtful speech are not crimes, if the individual(s) are identified as students, MU's Office of Student Conduct can take disciplinary action." The fuck? So they can discipline someone for something that even they admit is not a crime? I'm sure their pool of applicants next year is gonna be real shallow.
It's really shitty, but I don't think it's against the law because they are probably not going to be charged criminally. It's like when people lose their jobs for saying fucked up shit at work. They aren't going to jail. But they can still be punished.
All colleges have a code of conduct with a process in place to manage those that have violated that college's code of conduct, but wasn't necessarily committing an actual crime.
Until the ACLU files suit. If I were a student there I'd have fired off some emails to them already. They love this kind of shit. This is a liability for the college waiting to happen.
I'm pretty sure they're less concerned with people saying "you're stupid! South Park rulez!" and more concerned with people saying stuff like "ALL NIGGERS NEED TO DIE NOW"
Disgust at where academia has been going shouldn't be reserved to the right. We should all be disturbed at how they're shrinking discourse on campuses in the name 'tolerance.' "People like sensitivity more than truth in America." Close minded politically correct robots seems fair. It's the one part of my college experience I'd be happy to give back.
I found this article interesting. http://www.foxsports.com/college-fo...he-entire-mizzou-protest-based-on-lies-111115
I've already read posts on social media from Jewish people who think it's hilarious. I'm on board, it's just plain idiotic if this all centres around some silly bullshit, which is exactly what happened at Yale.
So someone went full on crayola with a stick of poo and drew a swastika with it? They must feel real strongly about it if they chose that over say, a sharpie.
