Of course they are trying to engage in a massive coverup where the local cops stop cooperating with investigators. When the ballistics come back on all of the kids who got shot and the calibers match police guns and NOT 223/5.56, what then?
bootlickers: it was a dynamic environment, which is why they were instructed to wait before entering to begin with! hardcore 2A absolutists: arm the children! cops: unfortunately these things do happen, our thoughts and prayers are with the families extreme leftists: this is why you should DEFUND THE POLICE GQP: ... were they legal immigrants? rational adults: the state of policing in general is absurd. Among other things, this senseless tragedy highlights the need for increased training, as well as mental and physical fitness requirements. Speaking of requirements, when are we gonna get on increasing those for gun purchasing?
This. I bet you anything that in the coming days/ weeks the citizenship status of the kids and parents is going to be brought up. In other news, the Uvalde cops are walking back their statements AGAIN, now saying that the door was closed, BUT not locked. Oh, and it was TOTALLY a teacher who did it. This whole thing wouldn't have happened if not for that pesky teacher. Also, the Uvalde mayor wants the school demolished, and wants federal funds to build a new one.
To answer the questions of on what is happening in Canada after doing a bit of digging this is what I was able to find. I don't think that any of these sound unreasonable. Letting Provinces/Municipalities decide if they want to ban pistols is how I want this approached. Making it so that magazine capacities are properly enforced and made so that stolen equipment can't just we switched back to high capacity also sounds reasonable. I don't see any of these changes affecting the "law abiding" gun owner in any way. I'm a big fan of the "red flag laws" because so many tragedies could have been avoided if it was easier to remove firearms for 30 days when someone is in a crisis but I'd have to see the wording of those laws before really forming an opinion.
They already did this day 1. Turns out he was born in one of the Dakotas, but it's the first thing a bunch of the GQP brought up. The second? There is a trans-girl online who looked "similar" to the shooter. They raided that girls Instagram and started to go into how it's obvious why this broken and mentally ill person was able to shoot up a school. Turns out that bit of info was false as well. Some are blaming video games again. Some are blaming violent movies. Some are blaming the shooter being from a broken home. They are grasping for anything to throw at the wall so they don't have to come up with the conclusion that easy access to high powered firearms was the cause.
Easy access to firearms is never the 'cause', they are means to an end. It's easy to get lighters, that doesn't cause arson. It's easy to get knives, that doesn't cause stabbings. That said, I agree with you, this kid and many others shouldn't have been able to buy those guns. I support laws that make it less likely guns end up in their hands, many of have said that.
I don't know why we give firearms this magical pass EVERY.SINGLE.TIME. So you are saying guns are just a means to an end? Call it whatever you want, the easy access to rifles and ammo are the reason this mass shooting took place. You can be fucked up, deranged in the head, bullied incessantly, but those things don't kill children in a school. "But..but...he could have just got a knife instead or burned the school to the ground with all the children inside. What then, what about lighters?!?" It's like an abused person staying with their abuser and making every excuse in the book to justify why their abuser isn't at fault.
We’ve probably beaten this topic to death at this point. To me, at the end of the day, a lot of these dudes buy their weapons just before the crime and buy them when they are quite young. We either ban the weapon which is super unpopular or make it just a tad more difficult to get and keep one. A little cooling off period would probably shave off a good bit of these shootings.
Do other states not have that? I know CA has a waiting period. Two weeks IIRC From reading through this thread, a lot of laws people want to apply or would be on board with, are already law in CA. We have cooling off periods, no high cap magazines, no suppressors, can't buy a gun until 21, they track how much ammo you buy. ID/thumb print required to buy ammo, no private party sales without going through an FFL etc
Most states don't have those restrictions. California being one of the strictest in the country for gun laws, have a lot of things which should be on the federal level, but aren't.
Although this would technically be a mass shooting, everything about this particular one was just straight up murder. He went in specifically to kill the surgeons who operated on him. What is interesting though, once again, someone was able to waltz into a store and buy an AR-15 and walk out same day without anyone batting an eye. This is still the problem.
This is a pretty interesting article. People who have been researching school shootings since the 90's know good ways to identify and help prevent these events. Of course it takes time, resources and attention, which we are not good at providing for our schools. I still think restricting access to guns is a good idea for our society as a whole, but it would be more effective if we provided funding for resources and training to provide help to the kids who are having issues. https://fivethirtyeight.com/feature...ent-a-school-shooting-for-more-than-20-years/
Nope. In Georgia I can buy a new firearm in about 15 minutes or less, depending on the amount of time the instant background check takes. I can then tuck it in a holster under my shirt with the biggest magazine made full of newly-purchased ammo and walk out the door - all completely legal. Suppressors require a more thorough background check and a $200 fee, as dictated by federal law, so that's not a same-day transaction.
Yeah that sucks. But at least we have the second amendment, right? Small price to pay so me and my lads can keep the government in check.
Dude, I can walk into any gun or sporting goods store that sells guns and walk out 15 minutes later with whatever I want. A very brief yay or nay background check and I’m out. I could get my new AR, a few hundred rounds, and clean out a playground 20 minutes later.
