Yeah... no shit. Someone probably dusted off the old playbooks, re-evaluated the Russian capabilities based on the intel the Ukraine stuff is bubbling up, and factoring in the Chinese reactions to the Taiwan visit. It makes perfect sense to me that they'd be adjusting the playbooks accordingly, and it would have nothing to do with the Trump bullshit.

I was... kinda. In 1998 the UK insisted on a statement about it as a condition for restoring diplomatic relations. Mohammad Khatami issued a statement saying that Iran would "neither support nor hinder assassination operations on Rushdie." It's a half-assed retraction to begin with, and that's not exactly the kind of thing you can retract. Robert E Lee surrendered in 1865 and yet we've still got yahoos in 2022 insisting the fight ain't over. I don't think Rushdie himself ever acted as if the fatwa were truly gone.
Everything about the fatwa falls into a weird “kinda” gray area. Like Cat Stevens walking back comments but also being like “I’m not not saying Rushdie shouldn’t be killed.”
The "fatwist" was only 24 years old. Born 10 years after the Satanic Verses was published, and how many more until someone indoctrinated him to hate it. Fuck all religions but that one in particular. Not a peep from r/Islam either.
Governments will be the new religion. Plenty of secular political parties and ideas that are worshipped with the same fervency. Plenty of 20th century examples of secular states being just, if not worse, in outright murderousness.
I've had eczema on and off throughout my entire life. It was pretty bad in the 6-12 year old range, went away and mildly came back in my early 20's and then went away again. Every 5 years or so, I'll get a flare up, apply some cream and it goes away. So I didn't think much of a little spot above my left temple just into the hair line. I tried a few of the different creams that always work but no results. It never really got any worse, but never got any better. Wifey finally convinced me to see a dermatologist today. They didn't like what they saw and took a biopsy. Of course they can't say for sure until the results come back, but off the record they said it looks like a textbook case of basal cell carcinoma. She did say that if she could choose the type of skin cancer she got, it'd be this. Of course I Googled the shit out of it and the chances of serious health implications are zilch. But, just an odd feeling to be sitting here, typing away with a spot of skin cancer on my face.
